DreamWorks Animation Recruiting Technical Director, Image Finaling Artist & Lighting TA
A Technical Director (TD) provides critical support to a show’s artists and department heads. A Technical Director will design, develop, program and implement new software tools and processes for a particular show or department. As needed, a Technical Director may be asked to do shot work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-Provide support and development of software tools and procedures to extend and enhance the pipeline.
-Assist animators and artists with troubleshooting of shots. Issues may include software and other problems with fur, clothing, particle effects, animation, and rendering.
-Ensure software development follows studio policies and guidelines.
-Support and work with multiple departments, including Modeling, Animation, Lighting, FX, and Research and Development.
-Work closely with other Technical Directors, Production Supervisors, VFX Supervisors, and Production Engineering to maintain and further the production pipeline.
-Assist in training and mentoring of other Entry Level and Associate Technical Directors.
-Reports to the show’s Supervising Technical Director.
-Strong programming skills. Proficiency in C, C++, Object Oriented Programming, Python and/or Perl desired.
-Production experience in computer animation, visual effects, or game industry.
-Experience with tool integration into existing or new pipelines.
-Experience with Maya or other 3rd Party Animation systems.
-Ability to establish priorities, work independently or within a group, and work with minimal supervision.
-Exceptional communication skills in dealing with both technical and artistic groups.
-B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent is required

Image Finaling Artist
Image Finaling Artists polish each shot as it leaves the lighting department. As an Image Finaling artist, you will be required to digitally alter frames using compositing techniques in Nuke. Artists also diagnose rendering issues with Nuke scripts that were created by other artists. They review each frame to ensure that there are no issues or problems. All Image Finaling artists take feedback from supervisors and artistic leads to correct or enhance footage. Image Finaling artists also address stereoscopic discrepancies which cannot be fixed by other departments. Photoshop is also used frequently by the artists to fix and enhance large resolution still images for use in commercial products and posters.
Must be proficient with the latest versions of Nuke, After Effects and Photoshop.
Must be comfortable with exploring large Nuke scripts to troubleshoot and fix issues.
Ability to track patches, rotoscope, digitally paint, color correct, and diagnose rendering issues in Nuke.
Knowledge of Nukes 3D environment and tools.
Understanding of Nuke’s Gizmo system.
Strong understanding of compositing.
A minimum of one year work experience in a production environment.
BA or equivalent experience
Efficient and speedy work practices for quick turn-around time under deadline pressure.

Professional stereoscopic experience.
-Ability to create motion graphics.
Knowledge of 3D Animation Pipeline.
Experience with working in CG environments.
Traditional art skills which demonstrate an eye for light, shadow, composition, and color.
UNIX or Linux operating system experience.
Programming or scripting experience.

This is an entry level position that performs specifically designated tasks for a given lighting team to help facilitate lead lighter setup. This position takes direction from the CG Supervisor and/or lead lighters and communicates with the LightingTechnical Directors to help improve processes and workflow.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
-Scout lighting of new environments or assets to determine any upstream setup problems before lighting production
-Organize and execute data to help optimize lighting rigs, such as baking out UV-based bounce or exposure maps
-Follow-up with other departments while troubleshooting issues until a resolution is reached
-Test new software maps and/or features as needed
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-Problem solving and troubleshooting in a technical environment
-Experience with the unix/linux environment
-2D/3D graphics software knowledge a plus
-Production experience a plus
