Our Systems Development team maintains a range of in-house software, from our renderfarm (high performance computing) platform, storage server and file systems, system analytics, to the Linux OS and other tools used by all of our artists and technicians.

Responsibilities:

Be the principal developer of front-end UIs and data visualisations for the team
Design, programming, testing, deployment and maintenance of software that meets real-world needs
Maintaining and extending existing software — proprietary and open source
Collaborating with sysadmins on system design and deployment

Requirements:

Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field
Several years experience of modern web software development in Linux or Unix environment
Proven Javascript experience in building client-side UIs
Experience of at least one modern MV* framework or library for SPAs, like AngularJS or ReactJS
Python programming, used as a web backend and for stand-alone scripts and applications
SQL databases (PostgreSQL preferred) with experience of schema design, debugging and performance issues

Desirable skills:

Attention to detail, from software architecture through to visual style and usability
Strong interpersonal skills in dealing directly with other developers and non-developers
An understanding of the role of popular frameworks, libraries, and web build tooling; when to use them and when not to
Experience of D3.js to produce custom visualisations
Server-side Javascript and event-driven programming with Node.js; exposure to ES6/ES2015 and other emerging standards
An interest in computer graphics is welcomed, but prior experience is not necessary.

Senior Systems Engineer – Integrated Advertising

Job Description

Framestore’s Integrated Advertising office in London are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer. The successful candidate will report into the Lead Systems Engineering , who reports directly to the Global Head of Integrated Advertising Technology and the Global Facilities Director. Senior Systems Engineers are responsible for planning, implementation and maintenance of systems that contribute to the smooth running of all technology in London. They will work in partnership with the other Senior Systems Engineers within our global network, contributing to decisions about the direction of technology within the company.

Key Responsibilities:

Installation, maintenance and support of client attended Flame and Baselight hardware and suites
Creation and maintenance of technical documentation to create a shared knowledge base.
Investigate, research and evaluate external suppliers for potential strategic benefit.
Drive performance metrics and benchmarking to assess new and alternative solutions.
Plan, advise and support implementation of large technical projects.
Have a physical presence in the building, organise and attend meetings as needed.
Represent the company at relevant external events (e.g. conferences, trade shows), and with relevant suppliers as required.
Plan, install and support servers, large storage file systems and network infrastructure.
Edit and create scripts as appropriate to facilitate the automation of systems activities.
Ensure technical support is provided to local productions where required to meet daily support needs.

​Technical skills:

5+ years supporting a VFX or Commercials
7+ years Linux Systems administration
A thorough grounding in digital camera technology and digital delivery specifications.
A working knowledge of Networking and Security concepts and technologies.
A thorough knowledge of industry specific technologies including high performance storage systems and distributed rendering/computing technologies.
Strong Academic background in a Computer Science degree (or similar).
Substantial Linux system administration experience using mainstream Linux OS.
An understanding of technologies such as MySQL, Postgres, NFS, SAN, Apache, Clustered File System, bash and Python.

Technology Production Manager

Job Description

The Technology Production Manager will report to the CG Manager, Film and will be directly responsible day-to- day planning, reporting and deliverables of key in-house Film technology projects.
A significant part of these projects will be administration based; tracking and reporting of costs and milestones to third parties and grant awarding bodies. Direct experience of this kind of grant management would be highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

Work with the CG Manager to create, implement and run the schedule and track and manage the workflow of projects
Oversee the organisation of project meetings, taking notes and following up information
Communicate information quickly to project team and other departments
Liaise with the joint grant applicants to ensure that project milestones are met, reporting is coordinated and regular meetings arranged
Anticipate and communicate issues to the CG Manager in order to resolve problems quickly
Maintain an accurate summary of projects’ progress
Track project budgets
Manage the administration of projects; including required reporting and monitoring, in order to satisfy any grant-specific dependencies
Assist the CG Manager with the management of other technology projects or departments as required

Essential Skills:

Previous experience in a CG technology/RnD related project management position
Previous experience of managing grant funded technology or RnD projects
Highly organised with first-class time management skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
The ability to remain calm and confident in a fast-paced environment

VFX Production Coordinator

Job Description

The VFX Coordinator is central to visual effects project management. The liaise with all aspects of production and post-production: Director, Editor, external VFX Supervisor and Producers, internal Producers and Supervisors as well as artists. Working closely with and on behalf of the internal VFX Producer they help strategise and implement tasks and targets crucial to the delivery of the project on time and on budget.

Responsibilities:

Work with Producer, Leads and Supervisors to track and manage the workflow through the departments meeting internal and external deadlines
Organise dailies, rounds and meetings, taking notes and following up on information as necessary
Ensure production database is kept updated daily with notes and critical information before departing for the day
Communicating information quickly and succinctly to crew and other departments in person as well as via e-mail
Communicating (directly or through the Production Assistant) client sessions and dailies/meeting changes
Keep communication flowing from Supervisor to Leads and crew to all other departments
Anticipate and communicate issues to Producer and Supervisor to resolve problems quickly
Take detailed, comprehensive notes and review with Lead after dailies/rounds
Maintain an accurate summary of progress from the previous day’s work by artists
Oversee the execution of client deliveries of all temps and finals
Manage edits along with the editorial department
Manage resources and communicate coherently with other support departments
Help to maintain a positive, upbeat and professional production office, being pro-active and solution-orientated
Other ad hoc duties as may reasonably be expected

Flame Artist

Framestore in LA is looking for a new staff Flame Artist to join their compositing team. We are looking for someone who has a great reel demonstrating complex VFX work, shoot supervision experience and a passion to work on high end VFX and VR projects requiring a high level of finish. The Flame Artist should also have great relationships with clients.
This is a staff role and we will provide relocation and work visas for the right candidate.

Responsibilities:

Work with clients in order to create their vision
Support the Head of Production and Producers in bidding projects and helping the Creative Director pitch and win the 2D aspects of projects
Attend shoots as a VFX shoot supervisor when required
Supervise team of staff and freelance compositors (Flame and Nuke) and roto artists.
Troubleshoot technical and management issues for the studio on projects.
Provide visually creative and timely solutions to directors.
Communicates with other VFX staff and departments on status of composite work.
Able to manage time effectively and give accurate assessments of the workload and the time required to complete tasks.
Able to provide preliminary and final color correction for the spots.
Comfortable working in client attended sessions on finishing projects

Essential Skills:

5+ years experience on commercials and visual effects heavy projects using Flame.
An understanding and commitment to providing superior service to commercials clients, both from a technical and creative point of view.
A thorough understanding and experience in compositing computer graphics into live action.
Proficiency in film and video broadcast standards and video and graphics formats
Must be highly organised and have the ability to juggle several jobs at once in a highly efficient manner

Working closely with CG Supervisors to determine the best approach to solving CG challenges and developing the final look
Developing shots in collaboration with the shot Compositor
Rendering non-lighting passes as required by the shot Compositor
Creating lighting set ups and/or working with current set ups
Creating efficient rendering set ups in order to optimise render farm usage
Scrutinising the colours and directions of all light sources in the real-world scene and replicating them in CG
Staying on schedule and meeting set deadlines while maintaining the highest levels of quality
Ongoing communication with Production and leads regarding schedules and deadlines
Other duties as required including wrangling assets or elements of a shot from another department to ensure shots are completed to schedule
