3D Artist – Characters

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the lead 3D character artist, the selected candidate will take part in the production of 3D characters for a AAA-quality 3D, photorealistic FPS (first-person shooter) on a next-generation mobile platform.
Working in collaboration with the production team and the character team lead
Creating high- and low-resolution characters (next-gen constraints)
Creating characters’ clothing and accessories
UV/texturing of organic and mechanical models

Requirements

Video-game experience (minimum one AAA production to one’s name)
Familiar with topological constraints in modeling (high and low resolutions)
Mastery of traditional 3D modeling workflows (Max or Maya), of creating textures and materials compatible with rendering models, and of physically based rendering (PBR)
Mastery of next-gen production tools: ZBrush, xNormal, Quixel SUITE, Substance Designer/Painter, Knald (Albedo, Roughness, Normal, Spec, AO, etc.), among others
Knowledge of advanced “baking” techniques (Normal, AO, Cavity, Spec, Gloss)
In-depth knowledge of the use of 2D manipulation tools (Photoshop)
Solid knowledge and understanding of human anatomy, with the ability to meticulously reproduce proportions, shapes and details
Ability to correctly interpret 2D/sketch concept art while creating 3D models

Skills and Profile

Interest in photorealistic graphical worlds
Strong knowledge of various visual domains (architecture, design, film, comics, games, etc.)
Open, curious and self-critical
Organised, efficient and independent

Technical Animator (Rigger)

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Art Director and the Lead Animator, the selected candidate will be in charge of rigging, skinning and controlling animation data flow on various productions, creating high-quality content with provided tools and assets. Specific tasks include:

· Setting up custom human character rigs, complex vehicle rigs with secondary dynamic animation, and possibly also environment FX rigs;
· Writing utility scripts and tools to streamline the rigging setup process;
· Collaborating with animators to design motion controls;
· Developing and maintaining character motion and deformation systems;
· Developing secondary dynamic systems;
· Getting involved in R&D and tool building to improve the animation pipeline.

Requirements

In-depth knowledge of 3ds Max (custom rig/character studio/CATs) and MotionBuilder;
Experience writing scripts and automating rigging processes (Python/MAXscript);
Preferably at least 3 years’ experience in a professional production environment;
Experience with setting up state machines and the procedural animation pipeline;
Experience in setting up custom rigs for characters/vehicles;
Good understanding of 3D FK/IK skeletal animation systems for both control and deformation of 3D characters (stylised and realistic);
Experience with secondary animation systems (including clothing/hair simulation) preferred.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

The selected candidate will participate and supervise an artistic production for a AAA photorealistic project. The art director will act as the primary link between the Montreal studio’s graphics team, the project manager, the creative director, and the studio art director on a new 3D title for high-end mobile platforms.

· Defining the game’s art style, while complying with the creative vision of the initial art direction
· Conveying expectations, both in terms of the level of quality and content (backgrounds, environments, characters), to the graphics team (concept artists, environment artists, character artists, animation team) by making use of the pertinent visual references, concept art, production design, and atmosphere materials
· Developing high standards of quality
· Supervising and approving work completed by the graphics team to ensure that the elements produced comply with the vision for the game, as well as meeting standards for quality
· Guiding the development and ensuring the maintenance of the flow of artistic tasks
· Providing guidance and advice to the team, as well as managing freelancers and outside studios, if necessary
· Providing reports to the project manager and the studio art director
· Ensuring that the artistic framework, schedule and budget are all abided by

Requirements

· A minimum of 5 years of experience as an art director, senior concept artist, or lead artist on AAA console/PC projects (games published on mobile platforms are an asset)
· Excellent artistic and technical skill sets (concept art, illustration, high-resolution sculpting/modelling, UI design)
· Expertise with 2D/3D next-gen production tools (knowledge of rendering engines and of compositing is an asset)
· Technical expertise with the main graphics engines on the market (knowledge of iOS platforms is an asset)
· Able to adapt to different management/data-monitoring systems (TortoiseSVN, Perforce, etc.)

Skills and Profile

· Passionate about video games, with a strong interest in photorealistic/cinematic styles
· Demonstrates mastery of illustration, animation, and graphic design with versatility regarding backgrounds, characters and UI elements
· Possesses excellent knowledge of the principles behind anatomy and design
· Possesses a positive track record in terms of developing, mentoring, and managing multidisciplinary graphics teams
· Excellent knowledge/reasoning when it comes to game development and the realities of production, both from technical and conceptual standpoints
· Tactful and a strong communicator, able to mobilize and inspire a team
· Critical with a keen sense of observation, and able to express their ideas
· Independent, rigorous and equipped with excellent organisational skills

Creating high-quality weapon and vehicle assets
Working in collaboration with the Art Director and Hard Surface team to maintain the look and construction quality of in-game assets
Ensuring the best possible rigging of assets
Supporting character and environment teams as needed

Requirements

3-5 years’ experience
Experience working with asset integration pipelines across different platforms
Expertise in 3ds Max/Maya, ZBrush, Photoshop, Quixel SUITE, Substance Painter, and Substance Designer.
Traditional 2D art skills

Skills and Profile

Passionate and knowledgeable about weapon and/or vehicle design and functionality
Strong understanding of real-time rendering, lighting, and shading techniques
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Strong problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills
Strong portfolio that showcases hard-surface modelling skills with a focus on weapon and/or vehicular assets

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of the Artist team, the successful candidate will be in charge of:

· Creating, and implementing real-time particle effects and animated shaders;
· Modeling, texturing, animating, lighting and optimizing VFX assets under direction of the Lead Artist;
· Maintaining a consistent art style under the direction of the Lead Artist and the Art Director;
· Being willing to learn (and teach) new tools and techniques;
· Collaborating with designers, programmers and other members of the art team and working closely with the tools and engine depts.;

Being meticulous and organized in approaching tasks, adhering to pipeline workflow.

Skills and Profile

Experience on at least one AAA production as a VFX Artist;
Requirement: knowledge of special-effect creation in a game engine;
Solid technical abilities to aid in creating new visual–effect art pipelines;
Comfortable using scripting tools to trigger effects based on game events;
Able to conceptualize and animate very stylized natural and fantastical effects (environments, creatures, skills);
Ability to accept feedback, and responds to criticism positively;
Experience in Photoshop or After Effects is preferred. Knowledge of Fume FX is a bonus.
Good problem-solving abilities;
Self-motivated with strong work ethic;
