Description

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Having artistic sensibility and thoroughness which will allow you to consolidate the atmosphere and visual impact of the packaging.
Graphical knowledge that allows you to vary and combine current graphical trends in different styles.
Creation of logos and emphasizing them in a graphical context.
Having knowledge in 3D (3ds Max) for the purpose of editing and reusing 3D resources that have already been modeled (characters, objects, backgrounds, etc.)

Skills and Profile

Solid expertise in Photoshop.
Solid expertise in photomontage and 2D special effects.
Solid expertise in drawing and touching up using a graphics tablet.
Able to produce original graphical compositions (framing, camera angles, etc.).
Ability to take graphical initiative is desired and appreciated.
Knowledge in 3D desired (3ds Max).
Knowledge in Zbrush is an asset.
Knowledge of vectoring tools desired (Illustrator).
Proactive and able to work independently.
Able to work in a team.
Very good general knowledge of visual and graphical trends (TV, movies, web, games, etc.).

Additional information:

Portfolio demonstrating your sense of artistry and finesse.

Technical Animator (Rigger)

Description

Following the development of many successful titles on iPhone such as the Modern Combat, Dungeon Hunter, Gangstar and Asphalt franchises, Gameloft Montreal is currently seeking a Technical Animator (Rigger) to collaborate on its next generation of iPhone, iPad and Android games.
Gameloft creates games for all digital platforms, including mobile phones, smartphones and tablets (including Apple® iOS and Android® devices), set-top boxes and connected TVs. Founded in 1999 and a top innovator in its field, Gameloft distributes its games in over 100 countries.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Art Director and the Lead Animator, the selected candidate will be in charge of rigging, skinning and controlling animation data flow on various productions, creating high-quality content with provided tools and assets.

Specific tasks include:

· Setting up custom human character rigs, complex vehicle rigs with secondary dynamic animation, and possibly also environment FX rigs;
· Writing utility scripts and tools to streamline the rigging setup process;
· Collaborating with animators to design motion controls;
· Developing and maintaining character motion and deformation systems;
· Developing secondary dynamic systems;
· Getting involved in R&D and tool building to improve the animation pipeline.

Requirements

In-depth knowledge of 3ds Max (custom rig/character studio/CATs) and MotionBuilder;
Experience writing scripts and automating rigging processes (Python/MAXscript);
Preferably at least 3 years’ experience in a professional production environment;
Experience with setting up state machines and the procedural animation pipeline;
Experience in setting up custom rigs for characters/vehicles;
Good understanding of 3D FK/IK skeletal animation systems for both control and deformation of 3D characters (stylised and realistic);
Experience with secondary animation systems (including clothing/hair simulation) preferred.

Lead 3D Artist – Environments

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

As part of a Montreal-based team, you will supervise and take part in the production of environments, decor, and 3D assets for a AAA-quality 3D, photorealistic FPS (first-person shooter) on a next-generation mobile platform.
Working in collaboration with the production team, producer and local art director
Supervising and taking part in the creation of high-quality backgrounds, environments and modular kits (organic, mechanical, architecture) for next-generation mobile platforms
Taking part in the creation of guidelines that allow for the reconciliation of artistic directives, with design choices and technical limitations
Overseeing quality as well as adherence to any associated technical constraints
Managing, advising and coordinating the environment artist team to produce work that meets the required quality standards and the provided deadlines
Taking an active role in recruitment (selecting CVs and portfolios, correcting tests, conducting interviews, etc.)
Providing reports to the project’s art director as well as exhibiting organization and attention to detail in one’s work

Requirements

Mastery of traditional 3D modelling workflows (Max or Maya), of creating textures and materials compatible with rendering models, and of physically based rendering (PBR)
Mastery of next-gen production tools: ZBrush, xNormal, Quixel SUITE, Substance Designer/Painter, Knald (Albedo, Roughness, Normal, Spec, AO, etc.)
Strong knowledge of lighting, shading and baking techniques
Strong artistic foundation (understanding of colour, composition and lighting)
Experience with real-time modular production environments and mastery of one or more production frameworks (minimum one Unity- or UDK-based AAA production to one’s name)
Up to date on technical capabilities of next-generation mobile platforms

Skills and Profile

Interest in photorealistic graphical worlds
Strong knowledge of various visual domains (architecture, design, film, comics, games, etc.)

Reporting to the Art Director, the successful candidate will be in charge of:

Creating high-quality weapon and vehicle assets
Working in collaboration with the Art Director and Hard Surface team to maintain the look and construction quality of in-game assets
Ensuring the best possible rigging of assets
Supporting character and environment teams as needed

Requirements

3-5 years’ experience
Experience working with asset integration pipelines across different platforms
Expertise in 3ds Max/Maya, ZBrush, Photoshop, Quixel SUITE, Substance Painter, and Substance Designer.
Traditional 2D art skills

Skills and Profile

Passionate and knowledgeable about weapon and/or vehicle design and functionality
Strong understanding of real-time rendering, lighting, and shading techniques

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

The selected candidate will participate and supervise an artistic production for a AAA photorealistic project. The art director will act as the primary link between the Montreal studio’s graphics team, the project manager, the creative director, and the studio art director on a new 3D title for high-end mobile platforms.

· Defining the game’s art style, while complying with the creative vision of the initial art direction
· Conveying expectations, both in terms of the level of quality and content (backgrounds, environments, characters), to the graphics team (concept artists, environment artists, character artists, animation team) by making use of the pertinent visual references, concept art, production design, and atmosphere materials
· Developing high standards of quality
· Supervising and approving work completed by the graphics team to ensure that the elements produced comply with the vision for the game, as well as meeting standards for quality
· Guiding the development and ensuring the maintenance of the flow of artistic tasks
· Providing guidance and advice to the team, as well as managing freelancers and outside studios, if necessary
· Providing reports to the project manager and the studio art director
· Ensuring that the artistic framework, schedule and budget are all abided by

Requirements

· A minimum of 5 years of experience as an art director, senior concept artist, or lead artist on AAA console/PC projects (games published on mobile platforms are an asset)
· Excellent artistic and technical skill sets (concept art, illustration, high-resolution sculpting/modelling, UI design)
· Expertise with 2D/3D next-gen production tools (knowledge of rendering engines and of compositing is an asset)
· Technical expertise with the main graphics engines on the market (knowledge of iOS platforms is an asset)
· Able to adapt to different management/data-monitoring systems (TortoiseSVN, Perforce, etc.)

Skills and Profile

· Passionate about video games, with a strong interest in photorealistic/cinematic styles
· Demonstrates mastery of illustration, animation, and graphic design with versatility regarding backgrounds, characters and UI elements
· Possesses excellent knowledge of the principles behind anatomy and design
· Possesses a positive track record in terms of developing, mentoring, and managing multidisciplinary graphics teams
· Excellent knowledge/reasoning when it comes to game development and the realities of production, both from technical and conceptual standpoints
· Tactful and a strong communicator, able to mobilize and inspire a team
· Critical with a keen sense of observation, and able to express their ideas
· Independent, rigorous and equipped with excellent organisational skills
