Render Wrangler – Vancouver

Gener8 is a technology company providing solutions to the entertainment industry. Our start in stereoscopic 3D conversion catapulted us to the top of the market within 18 months. Using our unique G83D® system, today we are the only studio in the world capable of delivering stereo conversion for an entire feature-length film that can meet or beat natively shot 3D.

A Render ‘Wrangler’ will proactively monitor and adjust shot settings, priorities, and host allocation to ensure that shots are moving smoothly through the RenderFarm. When issues are identified, they will be debugged and addressed in a timely manner, and/or escalated to senior staff with detailed information and possible resolution scenarios.

General Duties and Responsbilities:

Submit and/or manage all shots within current productions on the RenderFarm.
Use Gener8’s proprietary software (Cumul8) as required to document the current status of assets and shots in the pipeline.
Liaise with other relevant departments to ensure established timelines and schedule will be met.
Troubleshoot technical issues involving Nuke and Maya scenes in a Rush context.
May be required to contribute to the feedback and testing of Mel and Python scripts to implement farm solutions.
May be required to deliver written progress summaries.
Ensure all shot files and output conform to shot file structure and naming conventions.
Provide debugging support for other team members and departments on asset and rendering issues.

Requirements:

VFX or animation production experience using render management software.
General familiarity with Nuke, Maya and other software tools to be able to identify likely causes of render failures.
Ability to focus on overall shot throughput while gracefully responding to ‘on the fly’ priority re-balancing.
General contextual understanding of Stereoscopic and VFX pipelines.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Availability to work extended hours, including weekends as required.

Paint/Compositor – Vancouver

Compositors at Gener8 serve as vital players in establishing new and emerging technology in the world of stereo film. They are the last set of eyes on a shot and the final hands on the assembly line. The fine details that make shots look great are accomplished by careful manipulation and the hard work of the talented perfectionists of our compositing team. They use a mix of traditional compositing techniques blended with a unique stereo pipeline in setting a new standard in the world of conversion.

Compositors at Gener8 are specialists at solving technical problems with creative solutions.

General Duties and Responsibilities

Working closely with Compositing Supervisor and/or Lead Compositor to determine best approach to complete shots to project standard
Learn stereo production methodologies and develop creative approaches and problem-solving
Producing a final overall look that meets client expectations
Compositing in Nuke
Complete compositing and stereo painting as required
Performing tasks such as tracking, matte extraction, colour correction, paint fixes, rotoscope and assembly of live action and 3D assets
cleanplates/cleanup, wire/rig removal, Nuke Projection

Complete work within the schedule while maintaining constant communication with production team and Leads
Reports to Compositing Supervisor

Qualifications

Minimum 1 year experience compositing in VFX or educational institution
Must have thorough knowledge and ability to use the tools that produce digital composites in Nuke
Must present a show reel highlighting candidate’s eye for cleanplating/rig removal, 3D projection, colour, lighting, attention to detail and composition
Stereo experience is desirable

Rotoscope Artist – Vancouver

General Duties and Responsibilities

Photo-real element integration.
Tracking and rotoscoping duties.
Provide matte extractions.
Communicate and collaborate with lead compositors and other members of the conversion team.
Foresee, troubleshoot and communicate potential problems.
Communicate new techniques and processes to increase efficiency and enhance the overall look of a shot.

Qualifications

Post-secondary degree or diploma.
Minimum of 6 months studio experience.
Roto and painting skills including experience with hand painting and “procedural” painting.
Excellent Silhouette, Nuke and Mocha skills.
Experience in production of photo-real visual effects for feature films.
Must possess excellent communication skills.
Extremely detail oriented.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast paced/deadline driven environment.
Fluent in English.

Reel Requirements

Intermediate Stereo Depth Artist – Vancouver

Stereoscopic Depth Artists have a unique and pivotal role within Gener8, bringing all the pieces of the pipeline together in our ground-breaking stereo software. Working with the Stereoscopic Supervisor, Depth Artists are responsible for the creative direction of Gener8’s industry leading 3D content, building the immersive environment that connects the audience with the story.

They have exceptional spatial awareness and a strong grasp of current stereoscopic methodologies.

General Responsibilities and Duties

Complete Stereo Depth Passes for assigned shots to established quality standards.
Together with Stereo Supervisor or Lead Stereo Artist, evaluate the creative and technical approach for assigned shots.
Complete Stereo Depth Passes in proprietary software suite.
Create supplemental stereo elements in Nuke using various conversion techniques such as projection and displacement.
Perform all tasks associated with producing client ready depth submissions.
Learn Stereo production methodologies and work with pipeline development to improve proprietary processes.
Complete work within production scheduled timelines while maintaining constant communication with Supervisors and Production Staff.
Reports to Stereo Lead.

Ability to clearly communicate needs to other departments.

Qualifications

Completion of a formal education course in the Arts or Sciences.
1 year of experience in feature film visual effects.
Basic knowledge of stereoscopic concepts.
Basic knowledge of conversion techniques including projection, displacement and time offsets.
Demo reel required demonstrating strong artistic skills, including knowledge of perspective, scale, depth and composition.
Intermediate knowledge of Nuke.
Experience with Maya or equivalent.
Experience with Silhouette or equivalent.
Experience in a multi-platform environment.
Experience with stereoscopic conversion pipelines is a plus.
Scripting or programming experience is a plus.
Knowledge of Macintosh and Linux OS.
Able to work evenings and weekends when required.
