Rigging TD

Location: Vancouver
Open Positions: 1

Gener8’s Rigging TD will ensure the technical and creative success of rigging as per the established look of the feature. They will meet production deadlines, solve technical production issues, define workflows, streamline processes, and develop tools/frameworks for CG characters.

General Duties & Responsibilities
Develop character framework working in conjunction with the CG Supervisor and other department heads. Framework includes skeletal system, skinning, workflows, and user interface.
Streamline character rigging workflow and pipelines.
Create rigging (including skinning) for a variety of characters and props, etc.
Demonstrate a broad range of modeling abilities, including both high-poly and low-poly modeling techniques. Contribute and communicate technology constraints while creating models which are appropriate for a stereo conversion rotomation workflow in a variety of artistic styles.
Demonstrate complete mastery of professional development software tools required for model, texture, rigging creation, and implementation.
Trouble-shoot and find solutions for technical production issues.
Develop tools/scripts/plug-ins to enhance productivity of animators.
Participate in pre-production planning to determine and address technical design requirements and issues. Create documentation and tutorials relating to technical issues.
Mentor and offer support to less experienced artists and riggers, providing them with guidance and instruction in the area of CG modeling and production processes.

Qualifications
3 – 5 years experience in a production rigging environment
Must be proficient with mel and python scripting
Must be proficient with the Maya API, especially as it pertains to rigging
Must be proficient at both high level rigging template scripting as well as skin weighting and secondary deformation approaches (combining shapes, bones, deformers, wires)
Preferably has a good sensitivity for the aesthetics of motion and animation
Preferably has good polygonal modelling skills
Flexible in adapting to the specific demands of a stereo conversion workflow

Rotomation Artist

Location: Vancouver

General Duties and Responsibilities
A strong interest in 3D stereography.
General proficiency with Autodesk Maya.
Strong animation skills within the Autodesk Maya environment.
Must be familiar with Animation techniques.
Active role in contributing to a developing proprietary pipeline.
Ability to solve problems creatively in a deadline driven environment.
Report daily to the Rotomation Lead on status of allotted tasks.

Qualifications
Post-secondary education in Animation and Modeling.
1 year of stereoscopic 3D experience preferred.
1 – 2 years of experience in film production.
Strong understanding and ability to use Autodesk Maya.
2D / 3D compositing experience a plus.
Experience with Macintosh OSX.
Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of digital artists.
Able to work independently and as a member of a team.
Strong organizational skills.

Matchmove Artist

Location: Vancouver

The Matchmove Artist is a critical role, which is ultimately responsible for replicating the camera motion from a live action plate. Without this role, we couldn’t create what we do!

General Duties and Responsibilities
Tracking both camera and objects to match live-action footage in a 3D environment
Creating 3D layout for scenes or sequences
Maintaining consistent shot quality
Working with the Art Lead to define any specific Matchmove tools required and identify any additions or modifications to our existing toolset

Qualifications
Minimum 6 months Matchmove experience in a large feature-film VFX production environment
Strong understanding of 3D perspective and 3D packages
Understanding of one or more of the following: PFTrack, PFMatchit, and/or SynthEyes
Experience with Maya, Silhouette or other 3D packages is an asset
Knowledge of Nuke and tracking in Nuke is an advantage
Must be able to model and manipulate geometry for scene reconstruction and to aid tracking
Candidates should demonstrate a good eye for detail and precision with strong problem-solving skill
Must have a solid understanding of camera moves and filming techniques
General understanding of Linux/Unix-based operating systems

Rotoscope Artist

Location: Vancouver

General Duties and Responsibilities
Photo-real element integration.
Tracking and rotoscoping duties.
Provide matte extractions.
Communicate and collaborate with lead compositors and other members of the conversion team.
Foresee, troubleshoot and communicate potential problems.
Communicate new techniques and processes to increase efficiency and enhance the overall look of a shot.

Qualifications
Post-secondary degree or diploma.
Minimum of 6 months studio experience.
Roto and painting skills including experience with hand painting and “procedural” painting.
Excellent Silhouette, Nuke and Mocha skills.
Experience in production of photo-real visual effects for feature films.
Must possess excellent communication skills.
Extremely detail oriented.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast paced/deadline driven environment.
Fluent in English.

Reel Requirements

Compositor

Location: Vancouver

Gener8 is always seeking more efficient and state of the art ways to improve our pipeline, establishing new and emerging technologies in the world of stereo film. Our Comp Team serves as key players in the conversion of VFX shots. They are the first set of eyes on each shot. They prepare all relevant elements to go through the pipeline, ensuring the integrity of each finaled plate. These Compositors dissect large multi-pass Nuke scripts, optimizing and setting them up for Stereo Comp.
These compositors are specialists at solving puzzles with creative solutions.

General Duties and Responsibilities
Work closely with the Compositing Supervisor and/or the Comp Lead to determine the best approach to extract shots for Gener8’s pipeline
Decipher and extract relevant depth layers from Nuke scripts, keeping in mind the needs of all departments involved
Assemble “mini-comps” that reproduce 100% of the original mono script
Problem shoot and reconstruct missing elements in comps where needed
Complete work on schedule while maintaining constant communication with the Production Team and Leads
Reports to the Compositing Supervisor

Qualifications
Minimum of 2+ years live action visual effects compositing experience
Proficient in Nuke
Experience in projection, CG integration, keying and clean-up techniques
Excellent understanding of 3D multi-pass workflows, colour space, basic Nuke expressions and plate distortion
Strong eye for details
Fast and efficient; the ability to work under tight deadlines with a minimum of supervision
The ability to collaborate with other compositors to share knowledge and techniques
Organized with strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience in Stereoscopic Compositing is a plus
Completion of a formal educational course in the Arts or Sciences (VFX Related) is a plus

Paint/Compositor

The fine details that make shots look great are accomplished by careful manipulation and the hard work of the talented perfectionists of our compositing team. They use a mix of traditional compositing techniques blended with a unique stereo pipeline in setting a new standard in the world of conversion.
Compositors at Gener8 are specialists at solving technical problems with creative solutions.

General Duties and Responsibilities
Working closely with Compositing Supervisor and/or Lead Compositor to determine best approach to complete shots to project standard
Learn stereo production methodologies and develop creative approaches and problem-solving
Producing a final overall look that meets client expectations
Compositing in Nuke
Complete compositing and stereo painting as required
Performing tasks such as tracking, matte extraction, colour correction, paint fixes, rotoscope and assembly of live action and 3D assets
cleanplates/cleanup, wire/rig removal, Nuke Projection
Complete work within the schedule while maintaining constant communication with production team and Leads
Reports to Compositing Supervisor

Qualifications
Minimum 1 year experience compositing in VFX or educational institution
Must have thorough knowledge and ability to use the tools that produce digital composites in Nuke
Must present a show reel highlighting candidate’s eye for cleanplating/rig removal, 3D projection, colour, lighting, attention to detail and composition
Stereo experience is desirable

Prep Artist

The Prep Artist partners with the Prep Team Lead and determines the best approach for completion of Depth Assessments to established quality standards. This is a pivotal role in our production pipeline and helps define the look and feel of the completed film.

General Duties and Responsibilities
Learn stereo production methodologies and develop creative approaches and problem-solving techniques
Perform basic Compositing tasks in Nuke
Complete tasks such as tracking, matte extraction, paint fixes and rotoscope
Complete work within schedule while maintaining constant communication with production team and Leads
Demonstrate the ability to prioritize and manage time well
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Able to solve problems creatively in a deadline driven environment
Works well within a team environment

Qualifications
Completion of formal education course in the Arts or Sciences
Must present a show reel highlighting candidate’s eye for colour, lighting, attention to detail and composition
Working knowledge of Nuke or equivalent
Traditional art portfolio demonstrating traditional art skills is a plus
Rotoscope experience and knowledge of Silhouette are a plus
Excellent communication skills
Available to work evenings and weekends when required
