SENIOR ENVIRONMENTS LIGHTING TD- Image Engine, Vancouver, BC
Contract: starting early December, 2013
Project: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Are you interested in working for a growing, independent, award winning studio? This opportunity involves
working in a strong, R&D supported pipeline, a friendly and collaborative environment, and with a group
of passionate artists all working towards realizing the Director’s dream.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:
 Responsible for final 3D scene assembly incorporating the illumination and rendering of all 3D
elements required to complete shots, as well as compositing, to ensure quality and coherency of
the elements generated.
 Work closely with the Lead Lighting TD, and compositors to finish selected shots so that
computer generated elements are seamlessly integrated with live-action plates.
 Use Maya and proprietary lighting tools to match CG lighting to on-set lighting
 Produce test and final renders of all CG elements
 Create working comps for review by the supervision team
 Assist and develop the look of a shot or sequence with the supervision team
 Work in partnership with compositors to ensure shots are delivered to the very highest standard

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:
 At least 4 years experience with a high-level Maya-based film lighting and rendering pipeline
 Strong knowledge and experience with 3D workflow, including Asset Modeling, Lookdev, Scene
Assembly and layout, Shading, Lighting, and Rendering
 Experience solving technical issues with complex 3D scenes, especially raytrace render
optimization
 Strong software experience with Maya, Nuke, Renderman compliant renderers, raytracing,
Python or Mel scripting, and some Photoshop.
 Capacity to work collaboratively with 3D artists, Lookdev artists, Matte Painters, and Compositors
 Experience with Matte Painting, 2.5D projection, and camera mapping set-ups for environments
 Good communication skills
 Knowledge of traditional art skills and techniques: composition, color, lighting; drawing, painting,
photography

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:
 Be aware of the VFX/Compositing supervisor’s vision and assist the team in delivering quality
compositing that meets those standards
 Work with the Compositing Supervisor to set up shots and develop the look of the shots
 Assist compositors in interpreting the VFX/Compositing supervisor’s notes, as needed
 Have a solid understanding of the compositing tools, and pipeline in order to assist the rest of the
compositing team
 Develop new tools or work with a developer or TD to develop tools to ensure the team has the tools
and information they need to carry out their tasks
 Assist the compositing team in solving technical problems so the Compositing supervisor can focus
on the overall production
 Offer guidance and mentoring for junior to mid-level compositors
 Composite multiple types of shots (live action footage, digital still photography, rendered cg elements
and digital paint)to create believable environments that are to be seamlessly integrated into the film
 In the absence of a Compositing Supervisor assigned, act as a creative Lead working closely with
Supervisors and Clients to execute the story and binding physics involved
 Work with Recruiter to assess and interview artists as needed

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:
 Must have 5+ years progressing experience in compositing digital visual effects for feature film,
including 2+ years as Lead Compositor
 Expert knowledge and demonstrated work experience in Nuke
 Demonstrated expert knowledge of compositing workflow and the compositing application interface
 Good understanding of photography and film and how the interactions of light, lenses and film
emulsions go to make up the image
 Able to composite multiple types of shots from simple to difficult without supervision
 Strong aptitude for technical workflow challenges such as directory structure, file formats, naming
conventions, scripts, automation tools, automated dailies, etc.
 Demonstrated ability to teach/ mentor coworkers and assume leadership role
 Excellent problem solver who can focus on detail, while maintaining the whole picture
 Experience with complex matte extractions and motion tracking is a plus
 Python scripting is desirable

Are you interested in working for a growing, independent, award winning studio? This opportunity involves
working in a strong, R&D supported pipeline, a friendly and collaborative environment, and with a group
of passionate artists all working towards realizing the Director’s dream.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:
 The Character TD must assume responsibility for delivering assigned Rigging, Technical
Animation and Creature FX work
 Build and maintain animation rigs of varying complexity (hero and background assets, mechanical
characters, digital doubles, vehicles, props), to meet the requirements of the animation team
 Learn and work within the existing pipeline and asset specifications
 Create and maintains animated and dynamic motion controls including skeleton and body
animation, body deformations, clothing, jewellery and other accessories, facial deformations, skin
and hair
 Address supervisor and client comments by integrating solutions into assets or providing one-off
shot fixes as appropriate to deliver required results with maximum efficiency
 Attend dailies, reviews, and team meetings as required
 Work with the rigging team, as required, to maintain continuity between projects; as well as
support other departments (Animation, Modeling etc) to ensure information is communicated up
and down the pipeline
 Write utility scripts and provide input regarding existing tools and interfaces or those in
development for rigging, animation and creature fx pipelines and workflow
 Assist other members of the team to learn and grow their skills to meet their career aspirations by
providing informal feedback, tips and tricks, and encouragement
 Support characters and other assets throughout all phases of production to ensure the work
produced meets the Client’s requirements
 Accountable for meeting productivity and quota targets on time and at a high level of quality

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:
 Strong understanding of mechanics, anatomy and a desire to learn more depending on the
requirements of the project
 Deep understanding of the Maya rigging tool sets and ability to quickly pick up proprietary tools
and pipeline. Experience with Houdini is also appreciated
 Working knowledge of at least one scripting language (python preferred)
 Strong communication skills and a clear understanding of animator requirements. The applicant
must be able to speak to an animator in their language
 3+ years of progressive experience with creature rigging for high-end film/commercials
