POSITION PURPOSE

The Compositor is responsible for delivering high quality composites in a quick and efficient manner. They will apply notes provided by the Compositing Supervisors/Leads. They will manage their time effectively to ensure tasks are completed within the assigned timeframe and to the specifications requested by Image Engine clients. The will take on shots in varying levels of difficulty including, green screen, 2D tracking and 2D projections. They will identify and troubleshoot problems as needed and will ask for assistance when necessary to ensure effective use of time and resources.
They will begin quality checking their own work and assisting Senior artists to develop new concepts and approaches to improve work quality. They will participate in all team meetings when necessary.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Apply client notes to all comp shots with minimal guidance
Communicate successes and challenges faced by the team to the Compositing Supervisor
Take direction from the Compositing Supervisor to help realize the vision of the shots
Ensure continuity is upheld across shots and sequences
Work primarily with Compositing Supervisor/ leads to effectively solve compositing challenges within the pipeline
Composite multiple types of shots (live action footage, digital still photography, rendered cg elements and digital paint) with minimal supervision to create believable environments that are to be seamlessly integrated into the film
Work with production and supervisor team to understand and manage schedules and shot deadlines
Attend dailies, reviews, and team meetings
Provide input regarding tools and interfaces to improve throughout
Work with Compositing team to maintain continuity and consistent performance within a show
Work closely with lighters and matte painters to finish shots so that computer generated elements are seamlessly integrated with live-action plates
Manage time and resources to meet weekly targets
Promote interdepartmental collaboration

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

3+ years’ experience in compositing digital VFX for film
Demonstrated work experience in Nuke (ie. assemble cg passes, cleanup, keying, roto)
Ability to balance quick turnaround while achieving a high degree of aesthetic quality

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Technical skills

Experience in Nuke
Strong aptitude for technical workflow challenges such as directory structure, file formats, naming conventions, scripts, automation tools, automated dailies, etc.
Knowledge of compositing workflow and the compositing application interface
Good understanding of photography and film and how the interactions of light, lenses and film emulsions go to make up the image
Ability to understand black levels, grain structure and any technical issues pertaining to the film format

Core skills

Ability to composite multiple types of shots from simple to difficult with increasingly less supervision
Ability to troubleshoot and deal with competing priorities and projects
Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and applications
Excellent time management and communication skills
Ability to remain calm during peak production periods and maintain the morale of the Compositing team

Senior Texture Artist

POSITION PURPOSE

The Senior Texture Painter is responsible for delivering high quality assets in a quick and efficient manner. They will act as an example to and mentor junior artists and will deliver all tasks within the required timeframe. They will have practical experience in all areas of Texture. Senior Texture Painters will be able to apply briefing notes with minimal direction from team Leads or Supervisors. They will quality check all of their work and occasionally will assist the Leads to quality check the work of junior artists should the workload require it. Senior Texture Painters will be complete all aspects of texture work on assets across multiple shows, and create high quality assets at varying levels of difficulty.
In addition, Senior Texture Painters will assist the Leads and Asset Supervisor to flag issues, quality checks their work and occasionally they work of others. They will potentially assist in the Lead role on a short term basis in the event of an absence or production needs require it. They will participate in team meetings when necessary.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Apply client notes to all assets with minimal guidance
Create final look developed assets with minimal supervision and within the studio pipeline
Identify solutions and approaches to solve difficult assets without guidance
Communicate successes and challenges faced by the team to the Asset Supervisor
Process requests from other departments in the pipeline
Use time management skills to schedule meetings and tasks effectively
Manage time and resources to meet weekly targets
Responsible for painting characters or assets for multiple shows simultaneously
Define standard department standards
Provide dailied versions for assigned tasks in an agreed upon time by your Supervisor/ Lead
Attend dailies, reviews, and team meetings as required
Work closely with Lead Texture Painter, Lead Lighting TD’s and supervisors to ensure that all assets work within the scope of lighting & color pipeline requirements
Work with a team of artists in a hands-on capacity to ensure technically and artistically proper implementation of textured assets
Work closely with look development artists to create necessary texture maps for application to creatures, props and environments

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

5+ years’ of Texture experience with high end film
Demonstrated proficiency in defining and creating photo-realistic assets
Experience with rendering large data sets
Thorough understanding of traditional art skills (Form, architecture, anatomy, topology, color theory) and how to apply those skills in a digital medium
Excellent attention to detail when finalizing, approving or quality controlling assets
Ability to balance quick turnaround while achieving a high degree of aesthetic quality

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Technical skills

Senior level experience in MEL / Python / C++
Proven Senior level experience in Maya, Mari, Photoshop and UVlayout
Experience with LINUX/UNIX
Familiarity with modeling, digital mate projection techniques, film color management, 3D lighting and look development
Ability to come up with creative and efficient rendering solutions

Core skills

Ability to help with bidding; determine the timeframe and scope required for each project
Ability to troubleshoot and deal with competing priorities and projects
Ability to take direction positively, work well within a diverse group, and thrive under the pressure of tight production deadlines
Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and applications

Senior Layout Artist

The Senior Layout Artist is responsible for delivering high quality layouts in a quick and efficient manner. They will act as an example to and mentor junior artists and will deliver all tasks within the required timeframe. They will work with the Lead to translate previs or storyboards into usable 3D shots or sequences.This will include but will not be limited to camera set up, rough animation, environments, and asset blocking. They will have a creative eye and generalist experience to effectively set up shots and sequences. Senior Layout artists will be able to apply briefing notes with minimal direction from team Leads or Supervisors. They will quality check all of their work and occasionally will assist the Leads to quality check the work of junior artists should the workload require it.
In addition, Senior Layout artists will assist the Lead to flag issues, quality check their work and occasionally they work of others. They will potentially assist in the Lead role on a short term basis in the event of an absence or production needs require it. They will participate in team meetings when necessary.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Apply client notes to all layouts with minimal guidance
Communicate with downstream departments to ensure the setup enables artists to complete their work in the most effective manner
Breakdown previs or 2D story board into 3D shots or sequences
Stage all shots in line with the VFX Supervisor/Directors creative vision
Overcome technical issues (day to day problem solving), in conjunction with R&D and the CG Supervisor
Set up data to maximize throughput
Work with R&D to develop and suggest tools
Evaluate artists work to set and maintain quality standards
Work with Layout team, as required, to maintain continuity; as well as, support other departments to ensure information is communicated down the pipeline

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

5+ years’ of Layout experience with high end film
Experience with managing large datasets
Ability to adapt matchmove cameras/data fit for environment or sequence context
Thorough understanding of traditional art skills (Form, architecture, anatomy, topology, color theory) and how to apply those skills in a digital medium
Excellent attention to detail when finalizing, approving or quality controlling layouts
Ability to balance quick turnaround while achieving a high degree of aesthetic quality

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Technical skills

Ability to communicate with downstream departments to assess needs
Senior level knowledge in Maya and Nuke
Knowledge of Houdini is a plus
Experience with LINUX/UNIX
Ability to come up with creative and efficient rendering solutions
Strong understanding of sequences versus shots
Ability to learn pipeline and workflow quickly

Core skills
