Senior Creature FX TD

Contract: starting early September, 2014

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The Creature FX TD must assume responsibility for delivering assigned Simulation (Cloth, Muscle and Skin, Hair and Fur ) and Technical Animation work (Pre and post)
Build and maintain Dynamic rigs of varying complexity (hero and background assets, digital doubles etc), to meet the requirements of the show
Learn and work within the existing pipeline and asset specifications
Address supervisor and client comments by integrating solutions into assets or providing one-off shot fixes as appropriate to deliver required results with maximum efficiency
Attend dailies, reviews, and team meetings as required
Work with the rigging, assets, animation and other departments, as required, to maintain continuity between projects and ensure information is communicated up and down the pipeline
Write utility scripts and provide input regarding existing tools and interfaces for creature FX pipeline and workflow
Accountable for meeting productivity and quota targets on time and at a high level of quality
Assist other team members of the team to learn and grow their skills to meet their career aspirations by providing informal feedback, tips and tricks, and encouragement

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:

Strong understanding of real-world physics and anatomy and a desire to learn more depending on the requirements of the project
Deep understanding of the Maya dynamics tool sets and ability to quickly pick up proprietary tools and pipeline. Experience with Houdini is also appreciated.
Working knowledge of at least one scripting language (python preferred)
Rigging knowledge is a plus
Strong communication skills and a clear understanding of animation requirements. The applicant must be able to work alongside other creative and technical artists.
3+ years of progressive experience with creature FX for high-end film/tv/commercials

Lead FX TD

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The FX Lead must assume responsibility for delivering all the FX work for the film, and more specifically:

communicate the creative brief and real-world references from the VFX Supervisor and Director to the FX team
determine the broad technical and creative approach, in conjunction with the CG Supervisor
overcome technical issues (day to day problem solving), in conjunction with R&D and the CG Supervisor
break down the work into smaller and more manageable challenges, then plan and prioritize how to tackle them
work with our production team to most effectively schedule the work, including casting the work to the strengths of the individuals in the FX team
work with production and supervisors to accurately estimate the time required for all the FX work on the show
receive creative feedback from the VFX Supervisor and Director, and translate those into more specific and technical notes for the FX team
communicate well with all members of the FX, Production and Supervision teams
assist members of the FX team to learn and grow their skills to meet their career aspirations
work with R&D and the leads and supervisors of other shows to guide the overall approach to FX work at Image Engine
maintain sufficient hands-on experience to be able to assist with shot work from time to time, and keep up their skills

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:

Expert knowledge and demonstrated work experience in Houdini
Strong aptitude for technical workflow challenges such as directory structure, file formats, naming conventions, scripts, automation tools, automated dailies, etc.
Excellent problem solver who can focus on detail, while maintaining the whole picture
HScript is a minimum requirement, python scripting preferred
Python scripting, C++ and RenderMan shader coding is a bonus
Experience with other solvers and simulation tools (e.g. Naiad, realflow, Bullet, Blastcode, etc) is a bonus

The FX Lead should have experience leading medium to large size teams (i.e. 6+ people) on large projects (300+ shots).

Senior Lighting TD

Contract: starting early September, 2014

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Use Maya and proprietary lighting tools to match CG lighting to on-set lighting
Produce test and final renders of all CG elements
Create working comps for review by the supervision team
Assist and develop the look of a shot or sequence with the supervision team
Work in partnership with compositors to ensure shots are delivered to the very highest standard

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:

At least 4 years experience with a high-level Maya-based film lighting and rendering pipeline
Have a full understanding of the shader structure (not at scripting level), arbitrary outputs, and PTC systems
Have a good knowledge of the physics of lights and materials
Thorough knowledge of RenderMan based rendering software
Fully understands an iteration intensive shot pipeline
Desire to learn from others and to take on increasingly challenging shots
Traditional skills as a strong artistic eye for cinematography, composition, photography and high-resolution detail, as well as a good understanding of the principles of digital film compositing such as multi-pass rendering for composite-based control
Some scripting ability in MEL and python is an advantage

Senior Digital Environment Artist

Contract: starting early October, 2014

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The Senior Digital Environment Artist must assume responsibility for delivering all the 3d environment work for the film, and more specifically:

Have a very strong eye and aptitude for creating and rendering complex digital environments.
Develop the look of the 3d environments using real-world references.
Receive and execute creative feedback from the VFX Supervisor and Director
Determine the broad technical and creative approach, in conjunction with the CG Supervisor, including selecting among various approaches from 2D, 2.5D, and 3D to meet the environment requirements of the show.
Create clean and efficient template environment setups that can passed to and rendered by other members of the lighting team
Assist in the ongoing development of the digital environment workflow and related toolsets.
Identify environment challenges, such as memory and render-time constraints, and work with the production team to plan and prioritize tackling them.
Overcome technical issues (day to day problem solving) in conjunction with R&D and the CG Supervisor.
Work with production and supervisors to accurately estimate and schedule the time and resources required to render the 3d environments on the show

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:

Strong knowledge and experience with 3D workflow, including Asset Modeling, Lookdev, Scene Assembly and layout, Shading, Lighting, and Rendering.
Experience solving technical issues with complex 3D scenes, especially raytrace render optimization.
Experience with Matte Painting, 2.5D projection, and camera mapping set-ups for environments.
Strong software experience with Maya, Nuke, Renderman compliant renderers, raytracing, Python or Mel scripting, and some Photoshop.
Capacity to work collaboratively with 3D artists, Lookdev artists, Matte Painters, and Compositors.
Good communication skills.
Knowledge of traditional art skills and techniques: composition, color, lighting; drawing, painting, photography
Leadership experience a plus.

The Senior Digital Environment Artist should have experience on large projects (250+ shots) featuring complex digital environment work.

Compositing Supervisor

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Responsible for internal pipeline, communication and efficiency within the Compositing department
Determine best approach to solve compositing challenges and develop final overall look that far exceeds client expectations
Provide artistic and creative leadership to a dynamic team of artists
Work closely with Visual Effects Supervisors, Producers and the department heads to design, develop and produce large and/or small-scale digital composites for use in feature films
Accountable for meeting productivity and quota targets on time and at a high level of quality
Manage the compositing department and compositing team
Other duties and responsibilities consistent with your position as may be assigned to you from time to time

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:

Must have 7+ years progressing experience in compositing digital visual effects for feature film, including 2+ years as Compositing Supervisor
Must have a thorough understanding of traditional color process (ie film negative, print stock) and how traditional film is processed into digital film
Must have a thorough knowledge of the scanning and recording process
Must have a thorough understanding of modern processes (ie red footage)
Must have a thorough understanding of file formats (ie DPX, Open EXR and various other raw formats)
Must have thorough knowledge of node-based compositing systems (i.e. Nuke)
Must have a clear vision with solid leadership skills and an approachable attitude

Senior Rigging TD

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The Senior Rigger must assume responsibility for delivering assigned Rigging work, and more specifically:

Build and maintain character animation rigs of varying complexity (Bipedal and quadrupedal rigs, hero characters, background characters, motion capture rigs) with minimal supervision and within the studio pipeline
Build and/or integrate face shapes, muscle simulations, cloth simulations, dynamics and hair
Responsible for skin weighting, corrective blend shape creation and mesh updates during the asset build phases
Responsible for the integration of rigs into the show pipeline
Address your Leads critiques and comments while providing solutions to aesthetic issues to improve the assets; and maintaining a quality level as described by your Supervisor/ Lead
Provide dailies versions for assigned tasks in an agreed upon time by your Supervisor/ Lead
Attend dailies, reviews, and team meetings as required
Work with Rigging team, as required, to maintain continuity; as well as, support other departments (Animation, Modeling etc) to ensure information is communicated up and down the pipeline
Provide input regarding existing tools and interfaces for Rigging pipeline and provide solutions for technical problems that may arise in an asset/ shot
Write utility scripts to help other riggers, animators and pipeline developers
Assist members of the Rigging team to learn and grow their skills to meet their career aspirations by providing informal feedback, tips and tricks, and encouragement

Strong understanding of human anatomy
Strong understanding of some animal anatomies (dogs, birds, etc) and a desire to learn more depending on the requirements of the project
Deep understanding of the Maya rigging tool sets. Experience with Houdini is also appreciated
Working knowledge of at least one scripting language (python preferred)
Strong communication skills and a clear understanding of animator requirements. The applicant must be able to speak to an animator in their language

The Senior Rigger should have 5+ years of progressive experience with creature rigging for high-end film/ commercials

Rigging Supervisor

Responsible for the clear communication of rigging goals between the animation, creature FX and rigging departments
Responsible for the integration of rigs into the show pipeline
Responsible for achieving high quality work within the time budgets given
Works closely with together with R&D: spec new tools, facilitate testing, integration and provide timely feedback for ongoing development projects
Writing of utility scripts to help other riggers, animators and pipeline developers
Builds and maintains photo-real animation rigs of varying complexity (creature, mechanical, destruction rigs)
Responsible for skin weighting, corrective blend shape creation and mesh updates during the asset build phases

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:

Strong communication and organizational skills
Must be detailed focused with an eye on the big picture
The ability to work along side, communicate with, and understand the requirements of animators, CG and VFX Supervisors, assets department, FX and creature FX, and R&D and pipeline developers
Strong understanding of human and animal anatomy and a desire to learn more depending on the requirements of the project
Deep understanding of the Maya rigging tool sets and comfortable learning and contributing to the development of propriatary tools and pipelines

Senior VFX Coordinator

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Ensure the highest productivity of the artists
Coordinate and attend client meetings, taking detailed notes
Work with Producer and Supervisors (in some cases Production Manager) to adhere to schedules and keep schedules on track
Track the status of all shots in the pipeline, maintaining an accurate and up-to-date database
Ensure artists have the information and materials required to complete their work efficiently
Facilitate communication between all departments
Work with the Supervisors and artists to manage render priorities
Organize internal dailies and client shot review sessions

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:

3-5 years of solid production experience coordinating feature film
Must be an expert project coordinator/scheduler
Must be able to multi-task with ease under pressure
Highly organized, able to transform detail-oriented work into action
The ability to foresee and flag potential production related problems
Must be extremely knowledgeable in database management. Past Shotgun experience is a plus
Absolute fascination and dedication to post-production work is essential
Outstanding communication skills are mandatory
Must understand basic client-to-vendor relationships and show an eagerness to develop and enhance studio profile with the clients
Internal focus and motivation of the visual effects production staff is key
