Compositing TD

The Comp TD works in-between the tech department (Pipeline & RnD) and the show supervisors to liaise production with facility. The successful candidate will build and support compositing tools, techniques, and procedures, to support current projects but also advance and strengthen the capabilities of the facility. The role requires strong technical and communication skills, as well as a firm understanding of compositing, color theory, software design, graphics, and production workflows. Candidates will be required to contribute to compositing, and overall back end development.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Work with the compositing supervisor/ comp dept to evaluate existing set of compositing tools
Maintain and update current toolset as required, evaluate necessity of legacy tools, optimize tools and plugins, research new plugins
Suggest tools and toolsets for shows based on requirements (stereo, multi-format, in-game cinematic, web etc) and assist with show setup, cg templates and plugins
Come up with best practices implementations with the senior compositing team as to encourage a smooth and fast workflow at the facility
Ensure the general efficiency of the compositing team through careful application of technical solutions
Liaise with Pipeline team to ensure compliance with current internal best practices and legacy
Evaluate new releases of compositing software, test new releases, test new plugins
Work with the show specifications to assist with color integrity (color pipeline)from initial plate delivery through final client delivery, including editorial and filmout
Create and maintain documentation of compositing tools for compositors
Troubleshoot problem scripts and render difficulties

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:

At least 5+ years’ experience in compositing digital VFX for film
Strong coding experience in Nuke’s Python and/or C++ API
Solid understanding of color management
Strong technical and communication skills
Ability to understand how an artist thinks
Knowledge of OpenColorIO is a plus
Expertise with PyQT is a plus

Senior Digital Matt Painter

Contract: starting early September, 2014

They must possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Create photorealistic paintings and elements that matches concept using 3D and 2D tools and techniques including camera setup, modeling for projection, camera animation, projection setup, image re-projection, and atmospherics and light passes
Provide or acquire photographic reference materials
Work closely with the Supervisor to ensure that plates meet requirements
Regularly release dailies so that progress on a shot can be assessed
Attend dailies sessions and obtain feedback from the Supervisor
Report any day-to-day problems or concerns to the Supervisor

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:

A minimum of 5 years previous experience as a Digital Matte Painter or Environment Artist in a production environment for feature films.
Expert knowledge of Adobe Photoshop including file management (file format, bit depth resolution, appropriate layering of elements) is essential.
Thorough knowledge of advanced matte-painting techniques including colour space, digital-paint techniques, photography with an emphasis on composition, depth, lighting and colour.
Working knowledge of the basic principles of 3D texture projections in Maya and basic knowledge of compositing in Nuke.
A good understanding and application of perspective in the creation of the 2.5D and 3D digital environments.
Ability to take artistic and technical direction positively to meet a client’s brief, and work well within a team environment, or in a leadership role.
Ability to take responsibility for the timely delivery of the requested work

Theater/ Dailies Operator

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Run dailies session under the direction of the supervisor/ lead, ensuring a proper viewing environment
Compile and organize dailies at the beginning and end of sessions
Work with Producers/Coordinators to maintain dailies schedule
Work with IT/ Editorial to ensure system is running as expected
Ensure the projector is properly turned off when not in use
Work with producers across all shows to facilitate best use of theatre time for show needs and improve workflow

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:

Experience with Dailies viewing software (ie. Truelight or Baselight experience would be a bonus)
Ability to understand supervisor/ lead’s need through attentive listening skills
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
Ability to work effectively in high pressure environments
Film editing experience a bonus

Digital Matt Painting Lead

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The DMP Lead must assume responsibility for delivering all the matte painting work for the film, and more specifically:

Work with Supervisors (CG, Asset, Environment) to assess the work and suggest production friendly solutions that will maintain the vision of the film
Assign work to matte painters based on their individual skills and strengths, as needed
Responsible for reviewing the work of each matte painter on a regular basis
Responsible for leading the overall matte painting schedule, and balancing artistic and productivity requirements, in tandem with production management and supervisors (CG, Environment, Asset)

Senior Rigger

Contract: starting late July, 2014

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The Senior Rigger must assume responsibility for delivering assigned Rigging work, and more specifically:

Build and maintain character animation rigs of varying complexity (Bipedal and quadrupedal rigs, hero characters, background characters, motion capture rigs) with minimal supervision and within the studio pipeline
Build and/or integrate face shapes, muscle simulations, cloth simulations, dynamics and hair
Responsible for skin weighting, corrective blend shape creation and mesh updates during the asset build phases
Responsible for the integration of rigs into the show pipeline
Address your Leads critiques and comments while providing solutions to aesthetic issues to improve the assets; and maintaining a quality level as described by your Supervisor/ Lead
Provide dailied versions for assigned tasks in an agreed upon time by your Supervisor/ Lead
Attend dailies, reviews, and team meetings as required
Work with Rigging team, as required, to maintain continuity; as well as, support other departments (Animation, Modeling etc) to ensure information is communicated up and down the pipeline
Provide input regarding existing tools and interfaces for Rigging pipeline and provide solutions for technical problems that may arise in an asset/ shot
Write utility scripts to help other riggers, animators and pipeline developers
Assist members of the Rigging team to learn and grow their skills to meet their career aspirations by providing informal feedback, tips and tricks, and encouragement

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:

Strong understanding of human anatomy
Strong understanding of some animal anatomies (dogs, birds, etc) and a desire to learn more depending on the requirements of the project
Deep understanding of the Maya rigging tool sets. Experience with Houdini is also appreciated
Working knowledge of at least one scripting language (python preferred)
Strong communication skills and a clear understanding of animator requirements. The applicant must be able to speak to an animator in their language

The Senior Rigger should have 5+ years of progressive experience with creature rigging for high-end film/ commercials
