SENIOR LOOK DEV ARTIST (HARD SURFACE/ CREATURE)

Image Engine, Vancouver, BC Contract: starting September, 2013

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:
• Create final look developed asset with minimal supervision and within the studio pipeline
• Address your Leads’ critiques and comments while providing solutions to aesthetic issues to improve the assets; and maintaining a quality level as described by your Supervisor/ Lead
• Write and/or modify custom Renderman shaders to realize the desired look for production integration
• Define standard render passes
• Assist in developing standard lighting rigs & setups for verifying aspects of look development.
• Provide dailied versions for assigned tasks in an agreed upon time by your Supervisor/ Lead
• Attend dailies, reviews, and team meetings as required
• Keep supervisors apprised of issues arising in pre-production and shot production and offer creative solutions to those issues
• Work closely with Lead Lookdev Artist, Lead Lighting TD’s and supervisors to ensure that all assets work within the scope of lighting & color pipeline requirements
• Work with a team of artists in a hands-on capacity to ensure technically and artistically proper implementation of look developed assets
• Communicate with the R&D/ shader developer in order to ensure all necessary parameters and functionality are included in production shaders
• Work closely with texture artists to create necessary texture maps for application to creatures, props and environments

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:
• 5+ years of Look Dev experience for high-end film/ commercials
• Proficient with renderman shader writing
• Excellent working knowledge of Maya and Linux
• Some texturing / lighting experience
• Experience with rendering large datasets
• Ability to come up with creative and efficient rendering solutions
• Scripting experience in MEL / Python / C++

SENIOR MATCHMOVE ARTIST

Are you interested in working for a growing, independent, award winning studio? This opportunity involves working in a strong, R&D supported pipeline, a friendly and collaborative environment, and with a group of passionate artists all working towards realizing the Director’s dream.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:
 Use background plates to obtain camera and object motion in plate photography. This may include animating live action characters or relative object in the scene(rotomation)
 Models stand-in matchmove geometry used by Animators and Technical Directors
 Does basic composites of the files with the background to judge the camera and object solves
 Works with the matchmove team to maintain continuity between shots, and troubleshoot problem shots
 Under the direction of the project Supervisors, the Matchmover will setup the technical and aesthetic approaches of the matchmove work for a shot, sequence, or even an entire aspect of a show

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:
 At least 5 years experience with a high-level film-based camera tracking pipeline (most likely Maya/Boujou based)
 Preferred experience with 3d Equalizer software-tracking native plates and solving for distortion as well as solving lensgrids and plate dewarping
 Strong understanding of on-set photography and film and how various camera rigs create camera movement in live action plates
 Fully understands an “iteration intensive” shot pipeline
 Some scripting ability in MEL and python is an advantage
 Knowledge of Maya and Nuke a plus

SENIOR LIGHTING TD

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:
 Use Maya and proprietary lighting tools to match CG lighting to on-set lighting
 Produce test and final renders of all CG elements
 Create working comps for review by the supervision team
 Assist and develop the look of a shot or sequence with the supervision team
 Work in partnership with compositors to ensure shots are delivered to the very highest standard

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:
 At least 4 years experience with a high-level Maya-based film lighting and rendering pipeline
 Have a full understanding of the shader structure (not at scripting level), arbitrary outputs, and PTC systems
 Have a good knowledge of the physics of lights and materials
 Thorough knowledge of RenderMan based rendering software
 Fully understands an “iteration intensive” shot pipeline
 Desire to learn from others and to take on increasingly challenging shots
 Traditional skills as a strong artistic eye for cinematography, composition, photography and high-resolution detail, as well as a good understanding of the principles of digital film compositing such as multi-pass rendering for composite-based control
 Some scripting ability in MEL and python is an advantage

SENIOR DIGITAL MATTE PAINTER

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:
 Create photorealistic paintings and elements that matches concept using 3D and 2D tools and techniques including camera setup, modeling for projection, camera animation, projection setup, image re-projection, and atmospherics and light passes
 Provide or acquire photographic reference materials
 Work closely with the Supervisor to ensure that plates meet requirements
 Regularly release dailies so that progress on a shot can be assessed
 Attend dailies sessions and obtain feedback from the Supervisor
 Report any day-to-day problems or concerns to the Supervisor

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:
 A minimum of 5 years previous experience as a Digital Matte Painter or Environment Artist in a production environment for feature films
 Expert knowledge of Adobe Photoshop including file management (file format, bit depth resolution, appropriate layering of elements) is essential
 Thorough knowledge of advanced matte-painting techniques including colour space, digital-paint techniques, photography with an emphasis on composition, depth, lighting and colour
 Working knowledge of the basic principles of 3D texture projections in Maya and basic knowledge of compositing in Nuke
 A good understanding and application of perspective in the creation of the 2.5D and 3D digital environments.
 Ability to take artistic and technical direction positively to meet a client’s brief, and work well within a team environment, or in a leadership role
 Ability to take responsibility for the timely delivery of the requested work

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:
 Composite Digital Visual Effects in a team of 2D artists for final delivery of VFX
 Demonstrate a broad range of compositing abilities and determine the best approach to solve compositing challenges
 Attend and actively participate in team / production meetings
 Report to the Compositing Supervisor for the overall look, attitude and style of the production
 Accountable for meeting productivity and quota targets on time and at a high level of quality

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:
 At least 5+ years experience in compositing digital VFX for film
 Advanced demonstrated knowledge and production experience in high-end compositing software (preferably Nuke)
 Should have strong knowledge of compositing workflow and the compositing application interface
 Should have strong aptitude for technical workflow challenges such as directory structure, file formats, naming conventions, scripts, automation tools, automated dailies, etc.
 Experience with complex matte extractions and motion tracking

 Prepare 2D digital plates for Compositors through compositing, painting, and projecting techniques with minimal supervision
 Tasks include wire and rig removal, greenscreen clean-up, plate recreation
 Address your Leads’ critiques and comments while providing solutions to aesthetic issues to improve the shot; and maintaining a quality level as described by your Supervisor/ Lead
 Work with Compositing team, as required, to maintain shot continuity
 Provide versions for assigned tasks in an agreed upon time by your Supervisor/ Lead
 Attend dailies, reviews, and team meetings as required

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:
 3- 4 years of progressively complex related paint experience for high-end film/ commercials
 Able to “fix” highly difficult paint tasks
 Strong knowledge of Nuke
 Strong Knowledge of 3D projection, Camera Tracking, Planar Tracking, PointsTo3D
 Team player with a great attitude
 Strong eye for detail and precision
 Takes direction well.
 Fast & efficient; ability to work under tight deadlines

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:
 Work primarily with Animation Supervisor/ leads to create convincing performances and motion of character/ non-character assets
 Animate character/ non-character assets from simple to difficult with a minimum of supervision
 Work with production and supervisor team to understand and manage schedules and shot deadlines
 Attend dailies, reviews, and team meetings
 Provide input regarding tools and interfaces to improve throughput
 Work with animation team to maintain continuity and consistent performance within a show
 Accurately address critique and comments from supervisors, and ensure that revisions are completed in a timely manner
 Mentor junior animators

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:
 A minimum of 5 years experience animating character and non-character assets for VFX/ Feature films
 Expert knowledge and work experience in Maya
 Demonstrated expert knowledge of traditional animation principles, acting, film production and compositional design
 Able to animate multiple types of character/non character assets from simple to complex with a minimum of supervision
 Strong visual storyteller and well-versed in cinematography: camera angles, composition and continuity
 A working knowledge of Motion Capture and/or Rigging is a plus

SENIOR VFX COORDINATOR

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO:
 Ensure the highest productivity of the artists
 Coordinate and attend client meetings, taking detailed notes
 Work with Producer and Supervisors (in some cases Production Manager) to adhere to schedules and keep schedules on track
 Track the status of all shots in the pipeline, maintaining an accurate and up-to-date database
 Ensure artists have the information and materials required to complete their work efficiently
 Facilitate communication between all departments
 Work with the Supervisors and artists to manage render priorities
 Organize internal dailies and client shot review sessions

THIS IS WHAT WE REQUIRE:
 3-5 years of solid production experience coordinating feature film
 Must be an expert project coordinator/scheduler
 Must be able to multi-task with ease under pressure
 Highly organized, able to transform detail-oriented work into action
 The ability to foresee and flag potential production related problems
 Must be extremely knowledgeable in database management. Past Shotgun experience is a plus
 Absolute fascination and dedication to post-production work is essential
 Outstanding communication skills are mandatory
 Must understand basic client-to-vendor relationships and show an eagerness to develop and enhance studio profile with the clients
 Internal focus and motivation of the visual effects production staff is key
