Job Description

The 3D Generalist demonstrates a strong base of knowledge in 3D Computer Generated Imagery Creation. Successful candidates will display a high degree of proficiency in some and a varied skill level across most of the areas of model, texture, shading/look development, basic hard surface animation and FX simulation as well as the ability to composite their own work. The 3D Generalist will work both individually and within a team, with tasks ranging from completing everything on a small number of shots to working on specific tasks within a larger body of work.

Senior 3D Generalists will also demonstrate the ability to break down complex VFX shot work into achievable workflows using a variety of off-the-shelf plug-ins and scripts. As such, a strong technical background with the ability to modify and/or create scripts to develop workflows is key to their success.

Uses artistic and technical skills to work on all aspects of CG images or shots
Lead creation of outstanding artwork within a shot, using various software programs
Participates as a team member in determining various aesthetic solutions
May train, mentor or supervise the work of entry, mid and mid-high level generalist artists at the discretion of the Department Supervisor
Maintain or exceed a consistent level of productivity while meeting deadlines and producing high quality work
Source suitable reference materials for required assets
Attend dailies and participate in creative problem solving

Requirements

Degree or 5-8 years relevant experience (professional OR amateur) in one or more of the following fields: Computer Graphics, Fine Arts, Design or Photography
Proven ability in one or more CG techniques, including modeling, texturing, shading, lighting, look development, or compositing
High level of problem solving or creative thinking skills
Fluent in Photoshop
Fluent in 3dsmax, Maya or similar
Fluent in Vray or MRay or similar ray trace renderer
Comparable software experience considered

The Animation Supervisor works closely with the Director in determining the creative and aesthetic approach to the animation and supervises the animation team in achieving the Director’s vision for the film.

Responsibilities:

• Supervises the animation crew to deliver the expected and desired performance and footage quotas.
• Responsible for insuring and maintaining the quality and style of the character performance and acting continuity across the project.
• Consult with CG Supervisor or VFX Supervisor as to the technical feasibility of elements in the script and suggest production friendly solutions that will maintain the vision of the film.
• In consultation with the Director assign work to animators based on their individual skills and strengths.
• Responsible for reviewing the work of each animator on a regular basis and approving shots for submission to the Director.
• Responsible for directing and guiding the overall animation production on schedule and on budget, balancing artistic and productivity requirements, in tandem with production management.
• Direct and coordinate animation fixes and enhancements as per instructed by the Director.
• Partners with Artist Management to guide artists’ overall professional development, providing performance feedback, mentoring, assist with resolving performance issues and maintaining positive morale amongst the crew.
• Attend all relevant meetings to promote effective communication throughout the production team.
• Actively participates in the recruiting and staffing of the animation team – assesses the work of prospective candidates for the hiring process and works with Artist Management on hiring decisions.

Requirements Education/Experience:

• 4+ years of experience as an Animation Supervisor either in CG Animation or VFX
• Possess advanced animation ability with an expert awareness of animation principles, including acting and action.
• Must have an extremely creative and critical eye for guiding the quality of the animation.
• Must be a skilled decision maker, problem solver and an exceptional communicator.
• Expert knowledge of various software applications. Technical expertise is a plus.
• Proven track record of successfully working in a supervisory capacity on several animation productions.

The ILM Singapore Associate VFX Supervisor is responsible for ensuring work is created to the quality and standards requested by the client and the ILM VFX Supervisor, addressing technical issues, and identifying best practices and approaches as needed.

Responsibilities:

Creative responsibilities: collaborate closely with the ILM Singapore Studio Supervisor and ILM VFX Supervisors in the U.S. to ensure all work that comes through ILM Singapore meets client specifications; creative point person in Singapore responsible for guiding the aesthetic direction of all ILM Singapore work (including making decisions/calls when ILM Singapore Studio Supervisor is not available to provide input); requires strong knowledge and understanding of Lighting, Compositing, Digital Matte Painting, Texturing and Modeling.
Runs dailies, gives crew direction on shots and assets, aesthetic direction and feedback.
Develops methodology and approach to show, including how to get work completed efficiently and within show budget
In conjunction with Producer, develops and executes production plan
Report into and works with ILM Singapore Studio Supervisor to ensure the portfolio of work on all projects is accomplished efficiently, to the required quality standards, and within the schedule.
Lead the crew, provide mentoring, individual training and professional guidance as needed.
Serves as key creative in bid meetings
Work with ILM Singapore Studio Supervisor, ILM Singapore Production Manager (Talent), and Training department to develop curriculum and documentation for the team.
May start early shot production, overseeing asset build, look development and/or effects development while principal photography is in progress.
Partner with ILM Singapore Studio Supervisor, Director of Production Technology, tech team leads, R&D and show supervisors to determine and advise on the optimum technical approach for any given project and the ILM Singapore team, both for immediate show needs and long term strategy.
Maintain constant communication flow with global ILM teams.
Perform ‘hands on’ work on shows as needed.
Work collaboratively with ILM Singapore Studio Supervisor and Recruiting to define and communicate ongoing recruitment requirements including participation in reel reviews, interviewing, and recruitment outreach (as needed).
Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of the individual skills sets of the ILM Singapore VFX artists.
Participate in show and annual performance reviews for the VFX artists.
Maintain a high level of proficiency in current tools and methodologies – both proprietary and 3rd party applications available on the market.

Requirements Education/Experience:

8-10 years hands-on digital production experience.
Proven track record of successfully working in a supervisory capacity on several major productions (4-5 years).
A demonstrable blend of technical and artistic skills, preferably with experience as a Technical Director or Digital

Artist.

Portfolio demonstrating strong traditional art skills.
Reel demonstrating robust high end Feature Film VFX experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, Fine Art, or equivalent work experience.

The Compositing Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of Compositors and Leads and managing the quality of the compositing work and the overview of color continuity on a show. The Compositing Supervisor also works closely with the VFX Supervisor or CG Supervisor to communicate and delegate the compositing needs of the show to the team as well as represents the voice of the Compositing team with respect to workload and pipeline environment.

• Partners with Lead Compositor in evaluating the creative and technical approach for assigned shots.
• Oversees all tasks associated with the compositing process, including 2D tracking, matte extraction, layering of elements and color grading.
• Provides technical guidance and training to Compositors and Leads
• Responsible for problem solving and communication issues at the technical level.
• Interfaces with other departments to insure the seamless combination of work from other disciplines (Lighting, Roto, Generalists, etc).
• Participates as a supervising team member in determining various design solutions; efficiency improvements and provides artistic feedback on a shot and sequence level to other team members of the production.

Requirements

• You must have a minimum of 6 years as a Compositor and 2 years as a Comp Supe.
• Strong Technical knowledge of Nuke at the expert level.
• Strong understanding of 3D and CG integration within 2d workflow
• Understanding Color pipeline management (luts, neutral grades, DI, etc.)
• Onset supervision experience a bonus but not essential.
• Critical eye for detail, and be able to communicate visual aspects to the team.
• Ability to provide creative and artistic solutions to compositing challenges.

The Lighting TD Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of Lighting TD’s and Leads to create direct and reflecting lighting and shadows that meet creative direction and has shared accountability for the management and deliverables of the Lighting department. Research, develop, and implement techniques when necessary.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Quality and artistic supervision of lighting with input from VFX Supervisor
• Designs, implements and critiques generic lighting and compositing to help facilitate the creative “look” of the project
• Determines the need and extent of mattes, paintings, effects and shaders for digitally composited shots.
• Regularly interacting with the Producer, and Director to understand desired look as it relates to lighting for the production.
• Deliver final shots to production and ensure final technical check is complete.
• Tracking lighting continuity within sequences.
• Participates as a supervising team member in determining various design solutions; efficiency improvements and provides artistic feedback on a shot and sequence level to other team members of the production.
• Coaches and guides the team of Lighting TD’s to execute quality performance for the project.
• Partners with Artist Management to guide artists’ overall professional development, providing performance feedback, mentoring, assist with resolving performance issues and maintaining positive morale amongst the crew.
• Attend all relevant meetings to promote effective communication throughout the production team.

Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Graphics or equivalent work experience.
• Relevant understanding of color theory, composition, lighting, aesthetics and how these apply to lighting and rendering in 3D
• 6+ year’s production experience with experience in a leadership role on a VFX film or CG animated project
• Strong working knowledge of various software platforms including Maya, Shake, Nuke, or any other high end CG or compositing software.
• Strong working knowledge of Linux, Python and shell scripting required.
• Look development and/or shader writing preferred
• Ability to plan and execute complex 3D lighting scenes including working with layers and passes, doing complex comps and optimizing scenes and renders
• Some photography experience a plus (understanding of composition, photography terms like depth of field, FOV, aperture, exposure, dynamic range)

Senior Modelers are responsible for building a variety of creature and/or hard surface models to be used by other disciplines along the pipeline under the direction and guidance of their supervisors.
