The Associate Media Systems Engineer integrates, supports, and maintains media and A/V systems in the Lucasfilm production and post production environments.
Provide daily frontline technical support of media systems, including theaters, conference rooms, view stations, machine rooms, and edit suites.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve any video, audio, projection, display, or workstation issues as they arise, escalating to Sr. Engineers as needed.
Work with Sr. engineers to design, install and document new media systems at all Lucasfilm campuses.
Conduct repairs, wiring and integration projects of varying complexity under supervision of Sr. Media Systems Engineers.
Provide engineering support for a variety of live, special events across all Lucasfilm divisions.
Assist with Media Systems shop organization, including shipping, stock inventory, parts ordering, tools, and basic system maintenance.
Instruct technical and production staff on proper operation and procedures of media systems.
Secondary support of editorial systems across LucasFilm campuses.
Preparation of user and engineering documentation.
Required to be part of on call rotation, approx one week out of four.
Additional duties as assigned.
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or Engineering preferred
2-3 years experience as a video maintenance or systems integration technician preferably in film or video post production facilities using professional equipment from Sony, Panasonic, Avid, NVision, Evertz, etc.
Strong system wiring and integration skills, adhearing to common engineering and aesthetics wiring practices, excellent cable-making skills, and basic knowledge of electronics.
Experience operating, supporting, and troubleshooting professional video equipment such as routers, switchers, VTRs, signal converters, patchbays, KVM extenders, etc.
Excellent understanding or HDSDI video, frame rates, analog and digital audio and other signal types used in post-production.
Knowledge of MAC, Windows, and Linux operating systems.
Ability to troubleshoot desktop computer systems as they pertain to media and A/V uses.
Ability to read and understand media system design schematics and documentation for troubleshooting and integration needs.
Must possess methodical troubleshooting skills and problem solving abilities down to the signal level.
Ability to demonstrate thorough understanding of systems engineering principles and standards.
Experience with various desktop media applications including Avid, Apple, Adobe, Sorenson, etc.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to compose accurate and thorough documentation.
Ability to perform well both independently and with a team, within a fast paced production environment while working under deadline.
