Job Description

Company: Industrial Light & Magic UK

Delivers a proactive, flexible and friendly HR service to the London studio by providing relevant, appropriate and consistent support and advice to all employees and managers, driving best practice and ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures and employment legislation.


Employee Relations and Performance Management:

Through being a source of expertise, act as London studios first point of contact for all HR related queries from line managers and employees alike, advising on appropriate process and procedure in relation to terms and conditions of employment, sickness absence, maternity/paternity, flexible working, and any other ad-hoc queries. Escalates more complex queries to HR Manager as required.

Develops collaborative and productive relationships with line managers supporting them in the general management of their employees in line with company policy and employment legislation.
Escalate issues to HR Manager as required.
Undertakes simple employee relations investigations including grievance, disciplinary and capability issues, and supports line managers in 1st stage formal meetings.
Supports HR Manager in more complex employee relations investigations 2nd stage formal meetings.
Conducts exit interviews as necessary ensuring relevant information is communicated and fed back to the management group, and conducting analyses of information collected.
Support managers during annual performance and merit review process.

Employment Law and HR Policy:

Keeps abreast of changes to employment legislation and best practice by attending employment law seminars and reading legislation updates. Make recommendations to HR Manager for HR policy review and updates, liaising closely with the policy makes within Disney HR to ensure consistency and validate changes.
Makes recommendations to HR Manager for HR process and procedure review and improvement and work closely with HR Coordinator in implementing.
Develops and maintain Employee Handbook on the intranet and further develop the HR pages in conjunction with the HR Coordinator.


Working closely with line managers, takes responsibility for ensuring job descriptions and person specifications are relevant and up to date and comply to UK employment law and immigration requirements and the company’s equality and diversity commitments.
Working closely with SF HR, ensures all job descriptions undergo the ‘comping’ process and up to date comp information is available within the UK.
Supports the Senior Recruiter during busy periods in various recruitment campaigns such as designing appropriate selection tools, attending interviews, attending job fairs and recruiting events etc.

Visas and Immigration:

Takes on responsibility for the visa application process for the studio being the go to person for all visa queries and managing the relationship with ILMs immigration partner, Newland Chase.
Ensures HRs processes and procedures are compliant with Home Office regulations by regularly reviewing and checking documents and files, thereby safeguarding ILMs sponsorship licence.

Comp and Bens:

Manages the Pension scheme on a monthly basis working closely with the Finance team and HR Coordinator, ensuring accuracy of contributions and proactively investigating inaccuracies and ensuring these are put right.
Research alternative benefits that could be made available to employees at low cost to ILM.

Ad-hoc tasks:

Develop insightful management reports by working closely with Disney HR IS team and working with HR Coordinator to ensure integrity of SAP information. Deliver quarterly reports to HR Manager/Management team.
Working closely with the Senior Recruiter and Talent Managers, develop university relations through running and developing the Student Studio Visit process and other programmes as they develop.

Undertakes ad-hoc HR projects as required, for example:

• Review of benefits offered by ILM,
• Integration of absence tracking system
• Managing a London Internship programme
• Creative Skillset grant support throughout grant programme
• Working with HR Manager assist in design and development management briefing/training sessions in basic line management activities.
• Working with HR Manager to develop soft skill training programmes and manage spend of training budget

Effectively delegate to HR Coordinator, coaching them as needed to help them develop and become more knowledgeable and proficient within the HR team.
Supports HR Coordinator with weekly newstarter orientation programme as needed, taking on this activity in their absence.
Covers for HR Coordinator when absent undertaking all the monthly HR cyclical tasks etc and provides general administrative support as needed.
Actively gets involved in the organization of studio wide initiatives and events as required.

Job Requirements

(Education, Experience and Skills/Competencies)


Educated to degree level in an HR or Business degree
Previous experience of working within a Generalist HR Advisor role
Proven experience of working with and advising line managers
Proven experience of working within a fast-paced creative industry
Previous experience of arranging visas for the UK
Fully or Part CIPD qualified

Required Skills/Competencies:

Working knowledge of employment legislation and HR processes and procedures
Understands the need for confidentiality
Proven written, numerical, communication and verbal skills
Maintains high levels of accuracy and attention to detail when under pressure

Preferred Skills/Competencies:

Experience of working within a US parent organization beneficial

Technical Skills:

Competent user of all MS Office packages including Visio
Accurate typing skills
Experience of SAP preferred
