Matchmove/Layout Artist

Job Description

Layout/Matchmove artists collaborate with artists, supervisors and directors to pre-visualize sequences and concept art for animated features and live-action films.
Convert background plates to various formats to use with specific software to create digital motion files that match the plate photography. This includes animating any live action character or relative object in the scene.
Generate 2D compositing elements, while maintaining the accuracy of camera perspective.
Model the set geometry used to create the matchmove and environment for Animators and Technical Directors.
Light, render and composite files with the background to judge the move.
Originate entirely CG camera animation.
Work with the CG Supervisor and Project Manager when applicable to estimate project schedules in terms of matchmove staffing needs and make recommendations in the adjustments to the schedules as necessary.
Team acts as a central hub for all shot preparation to ensure continuity and camera accuracy in CG Elements.
Under the direction of the project Supervisors, the Matchmover will setup the technical and aesthetic approaches of the matchmove work for a shot, sequence, or even an entire aspect of a show.
Based on project size, and the nature of the work, the Matchmover may be asked to perform Lead Matchmove duties including, providing leadership, guidance and direction to the matchmove team.
Maintain an expert level of knowledge about current developments in matchmove tools for computer graphics, especially in areas that relate to the film industry.
No relocation will be offered for this position.

Requirements

Bachelor’s in a related field preferred.
3+ years film or TV experience.
Proficiency in UNIX and expertise in Maya or equivalent 3D package required.
Experience with Python scripting, photography, character animation and compositing desired.
Ability to reproduce exact camera moves within a computer environment.
Understanding of photography and the effects of different lenses on perspectives.
Typically has experience as an artist, animator or camera operator.
Skills in modeling, animation, camera composition and cinematography.
Must have a willingness to learn new tools, proven ability to be detail-oriented and to work efficiently within a production environment.
Excellent problem solving skills including the ability to work under tight deadlines.
Good written and oral communication skills including strong interpersonal skills.

Job Description

Senior Modelers are responsible for building a variety of creature and/or hard surface models to be used by other disciplines along the pipeline under the direction and guidance of their supervisors.
Build complex models, including vehicles, mechanical suits, props and sets, with minimal supervision and art direction

Requirements

At least 5 years experience.
Proficient at learning proprietary software.
Sound familiarity with shape deformation tools.
Communicates well with other production artists and production management.
Accurately bid and schedule model builds.
Ability to lead and mentor entry and mid-level modelers.
Ability to adapt to and develop new techniques.
Sets a high standard for all modelers.
Excellent time management skills.
Demonstrates ability to work with competency, energy and enthusiasm within a team environment with minimal supervision to build complex models.
Demonstrates good listening and communication skills by openly receiving direction and criticism about how to best approach what needs to be done. Immediately implements the requested changes and is conscientious about raising flags right away if a solution is not quickly found or if there are any delays. Also, keeps Supervisors and Production in the loop and are up-to-date at all times on the status of one’s assignment at all times.
Demonstrates excellent presentation/communication skills in dailies/model review by clearly and briefly outlining what has been accomplished and what should be addressed next.
Demonstrates an excellent eye toward anticipating potential problems and knowing what could look could be improved and what is good enough.
Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks extremely well, providing everyone with accurate time estimates on assignment completion.
Expert in Maya and Zbrush.
Modo, Mudbox, Mari, Photoshop also a plus.

Job Description

Creature TDs are responsible for setting up and running flesh-surface, hair, cloth, rigid body simulations as well as able to wrangle rigging and creature pipeline issues proficiently under the direction and guidance of their supervisors.
Set up and run proprietary cloth, hair, flesh surfaces and rigid body simulations.
Hero-creature enveloping using a combination of commercial software packages and proprietary tools.
Run flesh-volume simulations.
Wrangle creature rigging issues for artists in other disciplines.
Basic proficiency in another discipline: modeling, viewpaint, TD, or animation.
Mentor entry level artists.
Script utilities/tools/plug-ins in various software packages.
Create dynamic simulations in packages such as Maya/XSI.
Wrangle creature pipeline issues for artists in other disciplines.
MOCAP data re-targeting in XSI/Maya.
Act as wrangler for a creature and/or a specific technique used across multiple creatures.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Computer Visualization, or Computer Animation required.
At least 3 years work experience required in 3D CGI for digital animation, visual effects or producing CG characters and creatures for visual media.
Proficiency with Linux is required.
Expertise with Maya and/or other high-end animation software is required.
Experience with C++, MEL, Python, or other scripting languages is desirable.
Feature Film experience required.
Experience in corrective sculpting. Knowledge of anatomy and enveloping.
A reel demonstrating artistic and technical ability is required for this role.
