Generalists are responsible for creating photo-real environment scenes and landscapes that integrate seamlessly with plate photography. Successful candidates display a high proficiency in some and a varied skill level across the areas of model, texture, shading, look development, basic hard surface animation and the ability to composite their own work. Candidates that demonstrate themselves to be exceptional in only one area will still be considered as long as they have some experience in all others and are willing to learn.
Generalists work both individually and within a large team environment, with tasks ranging from completing everything on a small number of shots to working on specific tasks within a larger body of work.
Senior 3D Generalists will also demonstrate the ability to break down complex VFX shot work into achievable workflows using a variety of off-the-shelf plug-ins and scripts. As such, a strong technical background with the ability to modify and/or create scripts to develop workflows is key to their success.
Education / Experience
Degree and/or 5-8 relevant experience in a VFX environment either in commercials, TV or features
Previous experience in creating digital environments for feature films is strongly preferred
Required Skills / Duties + Responsibilities
Proven artistic ability across multiple CG disciplines including modeling, texturing, lighting, shading / look development, or compositing.
Strong communicator that requires minimal guidance in the execution of VFX Tasks.
Lead creation of outstanding artwork within a shot, using various software programs
Maintain or exceed a consistent level of productivity while meeting deadlines and producing high quality work
May train, mentor or supervise the work of entry, mid and mid-high level generalist artists at the discretion of the Department Supervisor
Attend dailies and participate in creative problem solving
Fluent in Photoshop
Fluent in 3dsmax, Maya or similar
Fluent in Vray, Mray or similar ray trace renderer
Knowledge of maxscript and/or python
Comparable software experience also considered

The ILM Singapore Associate VFX Supervisor is responsible for ensuring work is created to the quality and standards requested by the client and the ILM VFX Supervisor, addressing technical issues, and identifying best practices and approaches as needed.
Creative responsibilities: collaborate closely with the ILM Singapore Studio Supervisor and ILM VFX Supervisors in the U.S. to ensure all work that comes through ILM Singapore meets client specifications; creative point person in Singapore responsible for guiding the aesthetic direction of all ILM Singapore work (including making decisions/calls when ILM Singapore Studio Supervisor is not available to provide input); requires strong knowledge and understanding of Lighting, Compositing, Digital Matte Painting, Texturing and Modeling.
Runs dailies, gives crew direction on shots and assets, aesthetic direction and feedback.
Develops methodology and approach to show, including how to get work completed efficiently and within show budget
In conjunction with Producer, develops and executes production plan
Report into and works with ILM Singapore Studio Supervisor to ensure the portfolio of work on all projects is accomplished efficiently, to the required quality standards, and within the schedule.
Lead the crew, provide mentoring, individual training and professional guidance as needed.
Serves as key creative in bid meetings
Work with ILM Singapore Studio Supervisor, ILM Singapore Production Manager (Talent), and Training department to develop curriculum and documentation for the team.
May start early shot production, overseeing asset build, look development and/or effects development while principal photography is in progress.
Partner with ILM Singapore Studio Supervisor, Director of Production Technology, tech team leads, R&D and show supervisors to determine and advise on the optimum technical approach for any given project and the ILM Singapore team, both for immediate show needs and long term strategy.
Maintain constant communication flow with global ILM teams.
Perform ‘hands on’ work on shows as needed.
Work collaboratively with ILM Singapore Studio Supervisor and Recruiting to define and communicate ongoing recruitment requirements including participation in reel reviews, interviewing, and recruitment outreach (as needed).
Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of the individual skills sets of the ILM Singapore VFX artists.
Participate in show and annual performance reviews for the VFX artists.
Maintain a high level of proficiency in current tools and methodologies – both proprietary and 3rd party applications available on the market.
Education / Experience:
8-10 years hands-on digital production experience.
Proven track record of successfully working in a supervisory capacity on several major productions (4-5 years).
A demonstrable blend of technical and artistic skills, preferably with experience as a Technical Director or Digital Artist.
Portfolio demonstrating strong traditional art skills.
Reel demonstrating robust high end Feature Film VFX experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, Fine Art, or equivalent work experience.
Required Skills / Competencies:
Experience with Rendering software, Nuke, or proprietary equivalent.

Primary emphasis is on scheduling, communication and coordination for a specific group (discipline) of artists (or multiple groups) on any given project. Reports to Project (“Show”) Producer and Production Manager, while also working with other Coordinators on the project in keeping the show operating in an organized and efficient manner. Coordinators are also responsible for working with and delegating to the project Production Assistants. Each Coordinator usually works closely with their specific group of artists’ Supervisor or Lead in crewing, scheduling, and managing that group’s body of work. Coordinators are significant points of information on the show and need to be able to balance multiple needs, projects, and tasks at one time.
Work closely with your discipline supervisors and/or leads in crewing, casting and scheduling your discipline’s body of work, keeping in mind the overall show schedule, client reviews, bids, and other discipline needs.
Establish a process for communicating discipline targets, assignments, and priorities to your discipline crew, as well as the overall show crew. This should be daily and/or weekly.
Schedule, track, and manage assigned work within the ILM Internal Tracking Tool as well working with Production Managers to display the information in a physical form (magnet boards / conference rooms) in order to be visible to the team.
Ensure work is on schedule for each department and is meeting internal and external (client) deadlines. Check in with artists on a regular basis regarding workload, targets, needs, etc.
Set up turnovers with discipline crew. Communicate turnover information to all artists assigned to assets or shot.
Track client needs, reviews and deliveries to make sure your discipline hits their targets.
Keep a weekly synopsis of your discipline’s accomplishments and next steps.
If coordinating work from an external company, establish process for working with them that fits with your production team, supervisors, and leads.
Serve as key communication liaison between all parties relevant to your work. Provide updates, priorities, reschedules, and status of all shots at any given moment.
Anticipate and communicate issues to leadership team(s) to reach solutions in a timely manner.
Supervise, delegate to, and train assigned Production Assistant(s).
Act as primary point person for organizing dailies/shot reviews throughout the day on behalf of your discipline Supe/Lead. Take notes regarding feedback and decisions made and enter any required information into the Internal Tracking System/communicate to all so as to provide updates to all others impacted.
Technical ability and knowledge required to run Linux, Windows, and Mac-based programs for reviews with crew (dailies), clients, external vendors, and various meetings.
Conference room, Viewstation and basic technical setup and troubleshooting (running generic scripts to resolve issues).
Prioritization and escalation of technical support issues.
Ability to learn basic commands required to assist artists in file organization, submitting shots and QC-ing movies.
Perform special projects as needed.
May accompany VFX Supervisor and Matchmover on location for blue screen and principle photography work. Responsible for camera reports, shot information sheets, and matchmove information. Must be able to recognize and report back to ILM production any changes to shots that affect the budget.
Serve as the main point person between the Production and VFX Editors. Discuss cut lengths, key frame numbers, editorial discrepancies an other specifics regarding film.
Reserve equipment and resources needed for location and stage work; monitor schedules to avoid conflicts.
Role may require weekend work depending on show schedules
Role may also require:
o travel for plate shoots
o work on the same schedule as first or second unit production
Bachelor’s degree in Film, Art, Drama or related field or equivalent work experience required.
Three years work experience in production to include strong working knowledge of post production techniques and terminology.
Proficiency in Macs/PCs including Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of UNIX required.
Must possess very strong organizational and communication skills and be able to handle a variety of tasks in an efficient manner while meeting deadlines.
This position may require overtime and some Saturday work.

Modifies and removes isolated elements for digitally composited sequences with both procedural and hand painting methods.
Creates digital articulate mattes and performs plate clean-up.
Modifies and removes isolated elements for digitally composited sequences.
Creates digital articulate mattes with computer-aided drawing tools to detail and precision while performing repetitive tasks.
Performs plate clean up; removes unwanted artifacts and composites said artifacts with a clean plate created by the artist using tracking software and scripting. Frame by frame handwork when necessary.
Paints final comps before film-out to resolve last minute problems.
Performs background repair and wire removal.
Maintains up to date knowledge of rotoscoping and how to make shapes animate.
Develops 2D animation skills.
Performs other tasks related to the creation of digital articulate mattes.
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Drawing, Animation or equivalent artistic background and education required.
Minimum of 1 year production experience in computer graphics, animation or video.
Experience with 2D image processing, Harry, Henry, Matador, or Macintosh software or other similar systems.
Computer proficiency including UNIX operating system; the ability to learn software and adapt scripts.

The Senior Compositor combines and oversees others who combine live action and computer generated elements into visual effects shots that realize the vision and creative direction of the client and visual effects supervisor.
Perform all tasks associated with the compositing process, including 2D tracking, matte extraction, layering of elements and color grading.
Ability to perform digital matte painting, texture painting, or paint/roto work is a plus
Together with the Lead Compositor evaluate the creative and technical approach for assigned shots.
Complete work within the schedule while maintaining constant communication with production team and other artists.
Ability to share techniques and mentor junior level talent.
Proven ability to work closely in a small team with tight schedules.
Demonstrate the ability to prioritize and manage time well.
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Experience in dealing directly with clients.
Good note-taking and written skills.
8+ years of experience in the high-end feature film visual effects.
Demo reel required demonstrating strong artistic skills including knowledge of color, lighting, perspective, scale, and composition.
Traditional art portfolio demonstrating traditional art skills is a plus.
Experience with Maya or equivalent is a plus.
Experience in a multi-platform environment is required.
Expert knowledge of Shake, Nuke or equivalent is required.
Completion of a formal education course in the Arts or Sciences.
Scripting or programming experience is a plus.

Senior Modelers are responsible for building a variety of creature and/or hard surface models to be used by other disciplines along the pipeline under the direction and guidance of their supervisors.
Build complex models, including vehicles, mechanical suits, props and sets, with minimal supervision and art direction
At least 5 years experience.
Proficient at learning proprietary software.
Sound familiarity with shape deformation tools.
Communicates well with other production artists and production management.
Accurately bid and schedule model builds.
Ability to lead and mentor entry and mid-level modelers.

Demonstrates excellent presentation/communication skills in dailies/model review by clearly and briefly outlining what has been accomplished and what should be addressed next.
Demonstrates an excellent eye toward anticipating potential problems and knowing what could look could be improved and what is good enough.
Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks extremely well, providing everyone with accurate time estimates on assignment completion.
Expert in Maya and Zbrush.
Modo, Mudbox, Mari, Photoshop also a plus.
