Job Description

Senior Technical Directors are responsible for autonomously lighting, rendering and moderate-level compositing of very complex shots needing only initial direction and guidance from their supervisors.

• Light very complex/multiple creatures (hairy or furry creatures) and elements.
• Can set-up and wrangle heavy particle effects and enormous crowd shots in Prman and Zeno autonomously.
• Can set-up and run extremely complex (hairy or furry creatures) autonomously.
• Excellent pipeline scripting ability.
• Solid compositing ability, can wrangle blue-screen extractions, working knowledge of Nuke.
• Can write plug-ins, set-up sequences, debug simulations and write set up and rman surface shaders with proficiency.
• Can write/hack rman procedural and volumetric shaders as well as MentalRay procedural, volumetric and surface shaders with proficiency.
• Can animate moderate objects with proficiency.
• Excellent knowledge of Renderman and other unbiased rendering systems.
• Needs to know one or more major 3d application – Maya, XSI or Zeno.
• Can pick-up new techniques quickly and easily and can debug just about anything.
• Sets a standard for all Technical Directors in continually raising the bar for speed, quality of work and adaptability.
• Demonstrates ability to work with competency, energy and enthusiasm within a team environment with minimal supervision to complete a shot.
• Demonstrates excellent listening and communication skills by openly receiving direction and criticism by asking good questions to confirm clear understanding of the directions and how to approach what needs to be done. Once clear, implements the requested changes immediately and raises flags right away if a solution is not quickly found or if there are any delays, making sure the Supervisors and Production are kept in the loop and are up-to-date on the status of one’s shot work.
• Demonstrates excellent presentation/communication skills in dailies/shot review by clearly and briefly outlining what has been accomplished and what next should be addressed in the shot.
• Demonstrates the ability to engage in the creative process without ego, and accepts all final decisions with a positive and supportive attitude.
• Demonstrates an excellent eye toward anticipating potential problems and knowing exactly what could look better in one’s shot and an excellent knowledge of how to use the tools to achieve the desired look.
• Demonstrates superb problem-solving skills and takes the initiative to offer ideas and suggestions.
• Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks managing time very well, providing everyone with accurate time estimates on shot task completion.
• Demonstrates the ability to help and teach more junior-level artists and lead others on huge shots or small sequences.
Requirements Education/Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Graphics (or equiv experience)
• 5+ years experience

Job Description

FINANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for all FP&A activities related to LFL’s episodic television business
o Monthly Financial Forecasts
o Annual Operating Plan
o Five Year Plan
• Consolidates various animation related divisions, and creates and maintains all associated financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
• Provides financial analysis to support Disney and LFL business partner inquiries
• Develops and produces monthly reporting package
• Participates heavily in the LFL’s Quarterly Management Report function by providing financial information and high level analysis
• Maintains all necessary TM1 financial models in an SAP environment; responsible for building models and acts as TM1 administrator
• Loads financial forecasts and plans into SAP, and provides QA for accuracy
• Builds presentations for senior management to support show-related budgets
• Produce ultimates for television shows

PRODUCTION RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborates with producers in assignment of staff to individual shows
• Reviews budgets and Estimated Final Cost Reports (EFC), and provides EFC on a weekly basis to LFL Finance
• Maintains production accounting systems and record-keeping methods, based on production and accounting group requirements and Disney policy
• Ensures delivery of accurate financial information and analysis on a timely basis
• Works with producers on show budget issues
• Partners closely with LFL Finance Senior Management team and alerts them to potential problems.
• Engages with appropriate legal counsel to assure contracts are in place and contractual terms are followed
• Works with external production managers to integrate remote facilities and outside vendor documentation

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manages one production accountant

Requirements EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

• An undergraduate degree is required, a C.P.A. or M.B.A. is strongly desired
• Minimum of 8-10 years of professional experience in financial management positions with no less than 3 years experience in a supervisory capacity
• 3 or more years of experience in a film or television production environment; episodic animation accounting experience a plus
• Expert proficiency in Excel
• Experience with IT applications such as SAP; TM1 experience a plus
• An energetic, resourceful, and hands-on individual with a strong service orientation
• Ability to handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure environment while meeting strict deadlines
• Flexible, adaptable to working in creatively driven environment; handles challenging issues with diplomacy; able to facilitate cross-functional problem-solving
• Open and direct communication style, good listening skills’ strong written and verbal communication skills a must
• A highly motivated, seasoned and self-assured leader, with high confidence in his/her professional skills and ability to drive decisions and results

Job Description

The ADG Technical Character and Simulation Supervisor is responsible for envisioning, specifying, implementing and using both Character and Simulation pipelines and workflows that deliver film quality performances and effects while absolutely respecting the real time authoring environment of a modern game engine.

As Visionary/Planner/Deliverer:

• Develop and deliver leading edge techniques and workflows for a full digital human asset creation and performance capture pipeline. This includes but is not limited to:
o Evaluating and investigating new vendors, new software packages and new techniques.
o Running benchmark tests and establishing new technical budgets.
o Contributing to asset authoring, rigging and weighting methods and approaches for hero, mid-ground, background and crowd characters.
o Contributing to Mocap shooting and animation retargeting methods and approaches
o Contributing to techniques surrounding performance capture, data acquisition and fidelity preservation within the technical constraints of real time and near real time systems.
• Develop and deliver leading edge physical simulation techniques and workflows for physics systems ranging from character based secondary animation to large scale rigid body/destruction simulations. This includes but is not limited to:

o Evaluating and investigating new vendors, new software packages and new techniques.
o Running benchmark tests and establishing new technical budgets.
o Contributing to asset authoring, real-time, near-real time and offline simulation authoring techniques and workflows.

As Leader/Mentor:

• Create documentation and tutorials relating to technical issues to educate department subordinates as well as collaborators from other disciplines.
• Work with programming and tools teams to develop tools/scripts/plug-ins to streamline art processes.
• Work with other depts. to establish technical cross dependencies for projects.
• Comfortable and proficient in outsourcing pipelines. Must be able and willing to help work with outsourcers to train them in new working methodologies when necessary.
• Responsible for managing a growing a team and its interaction with other departments
• Assist in sourcing, interviewing, and hiring of new candidates as the team grows.
• Participate in pre-production planning to determine and address technical design requirements and issues.
• Participate in bidding and scheduling meetings for both development and production tasks as necessary.
• Responsible for generating, monitoring, and updating schedules, deliverables and due dates for teams targets.
• Assist in the planning of mocap and performance capture shoots as relates to asset requirements for shooting and the data set and quality expected as product of the shoot.

As Artist/Collaborator/Doer:

• Set up and run simulations for cloth, hair, flesh surfaces, and rigid body interactions.
• Solve technical production issues, especially those related to characters.
• Hero-creature enveloping using a combination of commercial software packages and proprietary tools.
• Script utilities/tools/plug-ins in various software packages.
• Create dynamic simulations in packages such as Maya or similar commercial DCC.
• Act as wrangler for a creature and/or a specific technique used across multiple creatures.

Requirements Education / Experience:

Education / Experience:

A minimum of 10 years of work experience with 5 years of leadership experience as a Maya rigger in digital animation, visual effects, games, commercials or producing cg characters and creatures for visual media.

Required Skills / Competencies:

Good communication skills.
Sufficient knowledge of Maya rigging techniques to optimize the performance of rigs.
Expertise with Maya is required.
Experience with Python scripting.
Feature Film/ games experience is required.
Experience in corrective sculpting.

Demonstration of advanced rigging skills.
A demo reel demonstrating artistic and technical ability is required for this role.
Technical director background has superior rigging skills.
Real Time graphics experience required.
Experience in Mocap data wrangling and retargeting.

Preferred Skills / Competencies:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Computer Visualization, or Computer Animation is a plus.
Experience with Massive crowd software is a plus.
Block Party and proprietary rigging/ animation tools.
