3D Generalist (Environments)

Job Description

Generalists are responsible for creating photo-real environment scenes and landscapes that integrate seamlessly with plate photography. Successful candidates display a high proficiency in some and a varied skill level across the areas of model, texture, shading, look development, basic hard surface animation and the ability to composite their own work. Candidates that demonstrate themselves to be exceptional in only one area will still be considered as long as they have some experience in all others and are willing to learn.
Generalists work both individually and within a large team environment, with tasks ranging from completing everything on a small number of shots to working on specific tasks within a larger body of work.
Senior 3D Generalists will also demonstrate the ability to break down complex VFX shot work into achievable workflows using a variety of off-the-shelf plug-ins and scripts. As such, a strong technical background with the ability to modify and/or create scripts to develop workflows is key to their success.

Requirements

Education / Experience

Degree and/or 5-8 relevant experience in a VFX environment either in commercials, TV or features
Previous experience in creating digital environments for feature films is strongly preferred

Required Skills / Duties + Responsibilities

Proven artistic ability across multiple CG disciplines including modeling, texturing, lighting, shading / look development, or compositing.
Strong communicator that requires minimal guidance in the execution of VFX Tasks.
Lead creation of outstanding artwork within a shot, using various software programs
Maintain or exceed a consistent level of productivity while meeting deadlines and producing high quality work
May train, mentor or supervise the work of entry, mid and mid-high level generalist artists at the discretion of the Department Supervisor
Attend dailies and participate in creative problem solving

Technical Skills

Fluent in Photoshop
Fluent in 3dsmax, Maya or similar
Fluent in Vray, Mray or similar ray trace renderer
Knowledge of maxscript and/or python
Comparable software experience also considered

Creature Technical Director

Job Description

Creature TDs are responsible for setting up and running flesh-surface, hair, cloth, rigid body simulations as well as able to wrangle rigging and creature pipeline issues proficiently under the direction and guidance of their supervisors.

Basic Skills:

Set up and run proprietary cloth, hair, flesh surfaces and rigid body simulations
Hero-creature enveloping using a combination of commercial software packages and proprietary tools
Run flesh-volume simulations
Wrangle creature rigging issues for artists in other disciplines
Mentor entry level artists
Script utilities/tools/plug-ins in various software packages
Create dynamic simulations in packages such as Maya/XSI
Wrangle creature pipeline issues for artists in other disciplines, such as:
MOCAP data re-targeting in XSI/Maya;
Act as wrangler for a creature and/or a specific technique used across multiple creatures

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree in Computer Science, computer visualization, or
computer animation required.
At least 3 years work experience required in 3D CGI for digital animation, visual effects or
producing cg characters and creatures for visual media.
Proficiency with Linux is required.
Expertise with Maya and/or other high-end animation software is required.
Experience with C++, mel, python, or other scripting languages is desirable.
Feature Film experience required.
Experience in corrective sculpting. Knowledge of anatomy and enveloping
A demo reel demonstrating artistic and technical ability is required for this role.

Job Description

The Animator creates high quality motion of computer graphics creatures and objects within a shot, using a variety of animation software programs, and working under the general supervision of Lead Animator and Supervisors.
Responsible for the successful animation of a series of shots on a specific project.
Participates as a team member in determining various aesthetic solutions; provides feedback to other members of the production by attending dailies on a regular basis.
Maintains or exceeds a consistent level of productivity while meeting deadlines and producing high quality work.
Expected to mentor entry level Animators and must be able to assist them with their shots.
Performs other tasks related to the creation of computer-generated animation.

Requirements

We have openings for junior, mid-level and senior animators
Expert knowledge of traditional animation principles, acting, film production and compositional design.
Ability to take on a delegated task with a minimum of supervision.
Knowledge of Unix and shell scripting; expert knowledge of Maya, proprietary and other software programs.
Good organization and communication skills.

• Work closely with the ADG team to create and polish existing 3D art assets.
• Learn and help develop proprietary pipelines.

Requirements

Required Skills:

• A strong 3D portfolio showcasing hard-surface modeling

Responsibilities

• Provide technical workflow expertise and support in the research and production of cutting edge visual effects such as smoke, fire and explosions, and in the use of physically based lighting for real-time content
• Work with the VFX Supervisor, rendering and simulation engineers to develop and extend real-time engine features and workflow
• Investigate the best ideas and results in the high-end visual effects and real-time fields, and provide ways to scale between them
• Develop and use new techniques and tools for simulating and rendering complex and directable smoke, fire, explosions, and other 3D fluid based systems in real-time as well as leveraging technology to approximate these effects for efficient rendering and practical workflow
• Organize, and provide script and workflow support for lighting, materials, post-production and visual effects pipelines
• Work with artists and engineers to help generate high-end assets for use in a real-time engine (textures, particle systems, materials, lighting rigs)
• Plan and manage tasks and schedules to meet key milestones

Requirements

Required Skills

• Experience of defining and implementing cutting edge visual effects
• Strong 3D math skills and understanding of physics, particle systems and lighting principles as they pertain to this field
• Strong background in a visual effects production environment in film or games
• Strong knowledge of scripting languages and art production workflow
• Demonstrable experience of simulating and rendering high-end particle systems and fluids
• Deep experience of one or more industry standard DCC packages (Maya, Houdini, etc) and how to import and export data between them
• Collaborative, self-motivated individual with excellent problem solving skills

Preferred Experience

• Practical experience in working with current high-end commercial game engines (Unreal, CryEngine, Unity)
• Familiarity with physically based lighting and materials
• Experience of shader languages (HLSL/GLSL/Cg)
• Experience with GPGPU or Compute shaders
• Understanding of software-based renderers (e.g. RenderMan, Maxwell, V-Ray, etc)
• Experience of visual effects production, lighting and post-processing in games or similar real-time environment

FX Technical Directors designs and renders FX animation, procedural simulation, dynamic simulation, particle and fluid systems.
Creates images, effects and programs for digitally composited sequences.
Responsible for compiling the various elements of a shot and seeing it through to completion.
Also designs and creates FX animation, procedural simulation, dynamic simulation, particle and fluid systems.
No relocation will be offered for this position.

Requirements

Advanced simulation experience with either Houdini, Maya, XSI, 3DS Max or other software, and particle rule authoring skills are required.
Linux, scripting ability in Python and MEL preferred; C++ skills also applicable.
3-5+ years production experience or feature film experience with effects simulation work preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or computer graphics.
Demo reel required.
