Lucasfilm Animation and creators of the Emmy award winning animation series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”, are looking for a versatile Production Assistant to join their production of the highly successful animation series “Star Wars: Rebels”.
The Production Assistant will provide overall administrative support for the Story and Layout departments. Please note this is a PROJECT position with fixed start and end date term.
• Provides production support to the Story team – Supervising Director, Episodic Directors, Storyboard Artists, and Asst Production Manager.
• Acts as administrative and back-up support to the production team to ensure all production events run smoothly and are executed efficiently.
• Assists in populating internal production/creative tracking system with asset naming conventions and other pertinent data.
• Schedules and organizes meetings for various departments.
• Researches and gathers materials and information necessary for the preparation and execution of production, such as preparing all paperwork and setup required for turnovers and kickoffs both internally and overseas.
• Types meeting notes, memos, documents and schedules as required.
• Assists with uploads and downloads of media.
• Prepares routine correspondence and forms. Packages, ships, and tracks electronic files and deliverables as necessary.
• Assists with food service and catering set up.
• Completes special projects as needed or requested.

Requirements

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in film, art, communications or related filed preferred.
• 1-2 years of experience in Production minimum, preferably in Animation.

Required Skills/Competencies:

• Requires excellent administrative skills, including word processing, strong working knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Capable of working independently and as part of a team. High level of initiative, flexibility and confidentiality.
• Strong attention to detail, time management, and follow up/follow through skills required.
• Ability to establish priorities and multi-task efficiently within a high-pressure, fast paced environment while meeting strict deadlines.
• Ability to work in a start-up environment that has a certain degree of ambiguity.

Pipeline Technical Director – Level 1

The Pipeline TD is responsible for developing and maintaining software tools, providing front-line support to artists, and general troubleshooting of the CG pipeline in a fast-paced, feature film visual effects production environment. The primary focus is ensuring artist efficiency. Receives day-to-day direction and priorities from show CG Supervisor; reports to R&D supervisor for technical and career guidance.
Develop pipeline and asset management tools to meet immediate, show-directed production demands, ensuring facility-wide consistency as directed by show and technical supervisors. Help maintain a wide array of existing workflows and scripts.
Provide front-line production support across a wide range of disciplines, troubleshoot assets and shots, and help artists with general problem-solving. Monitor email requests, package up problems and redirect to appropriate engineering team.
Test and validate tools and techniques in production. Work closely with engineering teams in testing, and releasing new and modified software systems.
Act as an on-call resource for show production staff.
Collaborate effectively with artists, production supervisors, and technical staff across ILM studios in San Francisco, Vancouver, Singapore, and London.
When not crewed to shows, serve on software teams working on projects that improve the efficiency of asset setup, caching, and shot-data handoff between artists across the entire pipeline.
Take direction from show supervisors to determine day-to-day and hour-to-hour priorities.
Work primarily on workflow tools, requiring introductory understanding of the larger pipeline.
Provide front-line support and gather information about artist problems and obstacles; resolve user errors; connect artists with deeper problems to appropriate technical support.
Develop basic knowledge of software, systems, and standards and conventions used in production.
Update documentation for the pipeline and tools to reflect any changes that are made.

Requirements

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related technical field.
Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining tools for use in a computer graphics environment.
At least 2 years production experience in visual effects for film, commercials or television.

Required Skills/Competencies:

Proficiency in Linux.
Strong Python scripting required.
Experience in one or more of Maya, Nuke, Houdini, Mari, Katana, RenderMan or similar.
Ability to communicate cross-discipline and provide innovative solutions to pipeline issues.
Detail oriented and strong self-sufficient trouble shooter.
Good understanding of the entire visual effects process, from shooting to modeling and texturing, animation, rendering and compositing

Preferred Skills/Competencies:

Experience with production database systems
Experience with C, C++
Experience with Windows development and applications such as 3ds max a plus.

he Senior Concept Designer will work within the Design Team as part of a broader production network, to create design deliverables for production use.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Draw and paint digitally to create design sketches and final illustrations of characters, creatures, sets and vehicles.
• Create deliverables as per the specifications of design packaging.
• Generate precise 2d character turns as templates for final 3d geometry.
• Utilize 3d software to create loose sketches of environments, props and vehicles for layout and scale check.
• Work to strict production deadlines as scheduled by the department production team.
• Meet the Supervising Director and Art Director’s aesthetic requirements on final designs.

Requirements

Experience and Skills:

• 6 – 8 years as a concept artist, preferably within a production studio. Minimum 2 – 3 years in a senior concept artist role.
• Strong understanding of anatomy and perspective required.
• Fluent in Adobe Photoshop required.
• Working knowledge of Autodesk Maya preferred.
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team. High level of flexibility, collaboration, and confidentiality.
• Strong attention to detail, excellent time management, communication, and follow up/follow through skills required.

FX Technical Director

Lights and renders FX elements and creates basic composite to demonstrate the usability of the elements.

Requirements

Advanced simulation experience with either Houdini, Maya, XSI, 3DS Max or other software, and ability to write expressions or authoring of shaders are required.
Linux and scripting ability in Python preferred, and experience in MEL highly desired;
C++ skills also applicable.
3-5+ years production experience or feature film experience with effects simulation work preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or computer graphics.

Lighting Lead

The Lighting Lead’s primary responsibility is to oversee the day-to-day operations of the lighting team, assisting artists hands-on with their work both technically as well as aesthetically, mentoring and training artists, and interfacing with technical staff on pipeline development and maintenance.
The Lighting Lead is supporting the Lighting Supervisor by working closely with seniors and lighting/comp artists on implementing the expected and desired look of the animated feature film.
Mentoring individual artists technically as well as aesthetically. Helping new hires to get up to speed, in collaboration with Senior artists.
Supporting the Lighting Supervisor with occasional reviewing of work of artists and approving shots for submission to the Lighting Supervisor and CG supervisor.
Participates in the recruiting and staffing of the Lighting team – assesses the work of prospective candidates for the hiring process and works with production management and Lighting Supervisor on hiring decisions, as needed.
Partners with Lighting Supervisor and production management to guide artists’ overall professional development, providing performance feedback and maintaining positive morale amongst the crew.
Attend all relevant meetings to promote effective communication throughout the production team.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Art/Science or Computer Graphics or equivalent work experience having gained an understanding of color theory, lighting, aesthetics and how these apply to lighting and rendering in 3d
6+ years production experience with strong working knowledge of various software platforms including Maya, Shake, Nuke or other high end Animation software.
Previous experience in a leadership role on a Feature film or Animated Feature project
Knowledge of UNIX and shell scripts.
Ability to plan and execute complex 3d lighting scenes including working with layers and passes, doing complex comps and optimizing scenes and renders
Some photography experience a plus (understanding of composition, photography terms like depth of field, FOV, aperture, exposure, dynamic range)
Working experience with compositing software (Shake, Nuke, Combustion, AfterEffects or similar)
Highly proficient skills in technical problem solving.
Strong communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal)
Passion for Film and Animation
