Job Description

Information Systems is looking for a Senior IS Developer who enjoys working with a broad range of technologies. Our IS developers write code that stores and tracks data to allow other departments to work efficiently. We’re looking for customer service-oriented individuals to join a team of well-rounded developers that thrive in an agile environment.

Full stack development of robust workflow based applications.
Provide input on architecture of larger applications; build stand alone modules and smaller applications for use by artists and productions within the organization.
Work with Project Managers to implement elegant and user-friendly interfaces for all new modules and/or applications.
Ensure code is developed, deployed, documented and maintained in keeping with IS guidelines. Assist developers from other departments in working with IS data and framework.
Monitor use of existing systems, and suggest strategies to improve health and reduce technical debt.
Lead and participate in code reviews, test new concepts and technologies, suggest improvements in technical direction and mentor other members of group in areas of expertise.
Mentor others in development technologies, tools, and processes

Requirements

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other technical degree
8+ years’ experience working in a professional software development environment required.
Experience in a fast paced production environment a plus.

Required Skills/Competencies:

Acquired specific technical/domain knowledge and is eager to expand expertise.
Ability to juggle multiple projects concurrently with frequent changes in priority, balancing the need for “perfect” solutions with the need for “quick” solutions.
Demonstrated ability to serve as an effective contributor on mid to large scale development projects.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with ability to effectively and efficiently communicate with all levels throughout the organization.
Self-starter with strong organizational skills.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and mentoring.
Strong attention to detail, strong sense of ownership and strong commitment to teamwork

Technical Skills:

Python fluency (Python 2.6+, Python 3.3+).
Deep understanding of web standards & technologies (e.g., HTTP, REST, SOAP, JSON)
Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs
Linux proficiency.
Database/SQL experience.
Experience with GUI Development
Enterprise Application Development
Strong understanding of software development and Quality Assurance best practices.

Preferred Skills/Competencies:

Web frameworks: Flask/Bottle, Django, Tornado/Cyclone, Pylons/Pyramid.
JavaScript libraries: jQuery, Backbone, Marionette, Angular, React, Gulp, Mocha, Sinon.JS.

Job Description

Production Engineering is a globally distributed team that develops tools and workflows which act as the foundational infrastructure for ILM’s other departments. As a member of PE’s Media team, your focus will be on the software and pipelines that ILM uses to:

Ingest media from our clients, such as plates, reference imagery, and media from client side editorial
Process and package finished work for delivery back to our clients
Process, track, and review media generated internally by our artists
Keep our internal editorial data in sync with client side editorial

Requirements

Responsible for the development of workflow and tools, under the guidance of a project lead
Creates new tools and workflows
Receives general instruction on work and new assignments
Advises/assists other engineers with maintenance and bug fixing of existing tools
Serves as knowledge resource for workflow and tools used in production at ILM
Updates and features additions to existing tools
Provide support to local productions to keep the pipeline running smoothly
Troubleshoot pipeline issues
Fix bugs and tune workflow tools
Install and configure software
Assist with show work area creation and configuration
Configure the pipeline to meet shows’ needs
Develop per-show tool customizations as determined by show supervisors
Provide training and assistance to artists on toolsets and workflows
Participates in discussions surrounding future workflow and tool development
Collaborates with artists and productions to develop efficient workflows and supporting tools
Participate in the activities of the globally distributed production engineering team, including:
Development and support activities
Regular status and planning meetings as time zones permit
Adhere to development best practices and standards defined by Production Engineering Supervisor

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computing Science or Graphics discipline, or equivalent professional experience
3-6 years of experience in the visual effects or computer animation industries

Required Skills/Competencies:

A clear and concise communicator: ability to keep end users informed of progress and managers informed of requests

Technical Skills:

In-depth knowledge of python programming and the Linux environment
Experience working with revision control systems and defined coding standards
Experience developing tools and/or plugins within industry software packages such as RV, Nuke, and Avid Media Composer
Experience with open standards such as OpenColorIO, OpenImageIO, ffmpeg

Preferred Skills/Competencies:

Experience working with relational databases
Familiarity with using REST APIs and designing web services
Prior experience developing applications with PyQt
Experience with video encoding and color management in VFX, Animation, or Commercial Production
Experience developing on windows is a bonus

Texture Supervisor

Job Description

The Texture Supervisor leads a team of surfacing artists who create the desired textures, ensuring that they are created and rendered according to the designs and visual style of the project.

Working under the guidance and direction of the VFX Supervisor, the Texture/Lookdev Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and quality control of creation and rendering of textures for CG assets, ensuring that they will satisfy the style and quality of the production.

Consults with the VFX Supervisor, the Model Supervisor and the Lighting Supervisor, to assess the technical feasibility of elements in the designs and suggest production friendly solutions that will maintain the vision of the film.
Responsible for bidding the work and driving the overall texturing / lookdev schedule, and balancing artistic and productivity requirements, in tandem with production management and other department Supervisors.
Attend all relevant show production and team meetings to promote effective communication throughout the show production team.
Works directly with Texture / Surfacing Leads and Pipeline Supervisors to manage troubleshooting and technical efforts in pipeline workflow development.
In collaboration with Production, assigns work to surfacing artists based on their individual skills and strengths, as needed.
Responsible for reviewing the work of each surfacing artist on a regular basis.
Responsible for guiding artists’ overall professional development, providing performance feedback, facilitating overall team building efforts, and maintaining positive morale amongst the crew.
Participates in the recruiting and staffing of the surfacing team – assesses the work of prospective candidates for the hiring process and works with Recruiting and Talent Management on hiring decisions, as needed.
Participates in the R&D and testing of new software and software updates.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree in Computer Graphics, Industrial Design, Fine Arts or equivalents having gained a strong sense of design and surface development.
Minimum 8-10 years’ work experience in 3D CG for digital animation or visual effects film.
Proven track record of successfully working in a Lead and supervisory capacity on several productions.
Experience in UV layout, texture projections, and 2D texture painting in UV layouts.
Experience in shader, hair and fur lookdev work.
Strong Katana experience.
Proficiency in the application and use of textures in one or more 3D applications (Maya strongly preferred).
Proficiency in Mari, Adobe Photoshop. Zbrush and procedural texture writing experience is preferred.
Proficiency with LINUX/UNIX is required.
Knowledge of modeling pipeline a plus.
Demonstrated artistic ability.
Strong communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and organizational skills required.
Ability to learn quickly and assimilate new information.
Attention to detail required.
Proven experience and ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse skillsets and cultural backgrounds.
Thrives in a high pressure, deadline-oriented environment.
A reel demonstrating texturing experience and traditional art work, together with drawings, paintings, photography, etc. Work should include shot breakdown.
