Reporting to the Director of Studio Operations in Vancouver with a dotted line report to the Chief Creative Officer, the ILM VFX Supervisor is the senior creative supervisor in the Vancouver facility, responsible for oversight of all work executed in Vancouver. Responsibilities include: management of any Associate VFX Supervisor and creative mentorship to the Discipline Supervisors and leads, ensuring work is created to the quality and standards requested by the client or ILM client-facing VFX Supervisor on time and on budget, addressing technical and resource issues, identifying best practices and approaches as needed, and advising on the strategy for potential new work.
Serve as key creative in Vancouver from bidding through Production, determining methodology and approach to executing work and overseeing the work on assigned show, in collaboration with client-facing ILM VFX Supervisor as appropriate
Serve as client-facing ILM VFX Supervisor on shows that are run out of Vancouver.
As needed, may oversee live-action plate photography, even on shows not hubbed in Vancouver
Develop looks and give direction to artists on shots and assets, including aesthetic and methodological feedback.
Mentor high-potential artists towards higher roles in the Studio.
Facilitate creative discussions between the Global Show Supervisors and artists.
Partners with Director of Studio Operations to evaluate scenarios for different combinations of projects or sections of projects at ILM Vancouver and to advise on consequences for utilization, capacity, recruiting, technology, training, facilities, etc. with the goal of delivering shows on time and on budget.
Partners with ILM Vancouver Director of Studio Operations to determine allocation and scheduling of studio resources, and leadership structures on projects and in within disciplines.
Partners with ILM Vancouver Director of Studio Operations and ILM Global Studios management and producers to determine communication framework and procedures between productions in all studios.
Maintains close communication with ILM Global Studios creative and technology leadership to ensure a consistent vision and approach for work and workflow.
Partners with CG Supervisors and Leads to determine technical approach for projects and studio.
Training and Human Resources:
Helps determine specific recruiting needs and goals for disciplines and skill levels and collaborates with Recruiting Department on sourcing, interviewing, and vetting candidates
As needed, represents the creative leadership at ILM Vancouver in media, at conventions and presentations, in meetings with vendors, potential outsourcing partners, etc.
10+ years hands-on digital production experience.
Proven track record of successfully working in a supervisory capacity on several major productions (6+ years).
Proven track record in bidding and client management.
A demonstrable blend of technical and artistic skills, preferably with experience as a Technical Director or Digital Artist.
Reel demonstrating robust high end Feature Film VFX experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, Fine Art, or equivalent work experience.
Experience with Shake, Nuke, or proprietary equivalent.
Experience with Maya, 3dsMax, XSI, or proprietary equivalent.
Experience with Adobe Photoshop.
Excellent organization and interpersonal skills
