General Summary

The Animator creates the performance of an animated character, conveying emotion, movement, action and personality. A CG Animator animates using a computer and software tools such as Maya.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Read and break down dialog tracks and plan shots
Block in rough animation for Director (and/or Lead or Supervisor) approval
Work with Director (and/or Lead or Supervisor) to finalize animation
Meet animation deadlines as established by production management
Animate props and effects, if needed
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

2+ years experience as a CG Character Animator in a fast paced environment such as commercial or game production
Strong understanding of traditional animation principles
High level of expertise in Maya
Ability to bring characters to life
A firm grasp of technical animation issues, including character effects and rigging is highly desired
Acting skills a plus
Bachelor’s degree in, Animation, Film, Fine Art or Computer Science or other relevant area of study and/or equivalent job experience a plus
Experience as a CG Character Animator on a fully animated theatrically released CG feature film, a plus

Work sample/reel demonstrating skills and qualifications required.

A modeler creates character, prop and set models that support the artistic goals and story concepts of the production.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Create and maintain 3D models for use in production.
Work with art direction to help realize the aesthetic vision of the production.
Work to ensure all deliverables meet the needs of all receiving departments.
Help develop new tools and techniques to improve the modeling process.
Meet deadlines as established by Production Management.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Commercial Arts, Computer Science, Animation or other relevant area of study and/or equivalent job experience
3+ years of Feature Film or relevant industry experience (CG and/or Visual Effects).
An understanding and experience in the creation and use of geometry assets, in a production setting
Demonstrated ability using Maya for the creation of both hard surface and organic models
Knowledge of polygonal, Nurb and subdivision surface types
Ability to mentor less experienced team members, if needed
Life drawing and sculpting experience, a plus
Experience with Polygonal
Experience with Nurbs a plus.
Experience with ZBrush, MODO, Mudbox, Lightwave, Photoshop 3D Studio Max, Softimage and/or Houdini a plus

General Summary

Commercial Producer initiates, coordinates and oversees all aspects of the commercial production process on particular project(s).

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Works with an Executive Producer and Director during initial bidding stages to create budget, schedule, bid letter, and pitch presentations.
Works with Director and Department Heads to determine allocation of internal staff and freelance staffing needs.
Responsible for the fiscal management of project(s), actualizing and forecasting costs bi-weekly to maintain financial oversight. Reviews Actuals with Executive Producer throughout project.
Regularly reviews and resolves conflict issues relating to budget expenditures and schedule status.
Ensures that all appropriate contracts and documents authorizing the production are executed.
Oversees production support personnel (as necessitated) and allocation of resources within a particular project.
Interacts with agency producer (key contact) and all agency personnel.
Views dailies and work in progress and is able to communicate with agency on the status of the job and their creative review of our work.
Ensures all necessary lines of communication are open and working, both internally and externally. Responsible for communicating changes in schedule and/or scope with all Department Heads and Crew.
Maintains positive relationships with clients.
Performs all necessary functions needed to wrap the job, including final review of the production process and PR materials.

Interpersonal Contacts

Works closely with directors to assure proper staffing of jobs and performance of staff during production to assure creative goals are met. Works closely with Executive Producers to maintain integrity of budget, schedule, and client relations.

Minimum Qualifications

The Character Fabricator is responsible for the fabrication of animation puppets, character prototypes, props and ancillary items. Familiar with all fabrication processes from mold making and casting through finishing of characters, including painting and costuming. Should be comfortable with the use of light welding equipment and able to construct basic, light-duty armatures.
Should understand puppet costuming and the uses of fabrics and related materials.

General Summary
Responsible for the fabrication of costumes for animation puppets used in a stop motion production. The Costume Fabricator works closely with the Head of Costume, the Puppet Fabrication Supervisor, and animators to build costumes which give the animator the creative freedom to pursue the ultimate in character acting and performance while upholding the integrity of the character’s design. They must source materials that are appropriate to design and puppet scale. Fabrication skills require a keen eye, exacting talents as a seamstress, and the highest attention to detail and precision. Perfection of the stitching and seams must be appropriate for miniatures and hold up to scrutiny on a big screen.

Essential Job Functions
Fabricate costumes for stop motion animation puppets.
Ability to fabricate with highest attention to detail with finest stitching and detailing.
Fabric selections and fabrication must incorporate the weight and memory required for stop motion.
Working knowledge of stop motion animation as it applies to fabric selection and execution of designs.
Work with various dyes, finishes, and texture techniques for camera ready stop motion puppets.
Must work collaboratively with other departments within Puppet Fabrication.
Ability to attend to stage repairs.

General Summary

The Post Production Supervisor is responsible for the work of those editing and finishing all visible and audible elements, on film, videotape, or digital media, for specified projects produced by LAIKA. The Post Production Supervisor works closely with Directors and Producers to insure that post production is done on schedule, on budget, and to the standards of the creative and technical quality established by LAIKA.

Essential Job Functions

Manage post production staff and technicians and third-party post production resources in the delivery of post production elements.
Manages time for all editorial and post production services, both in-house and with outside suppliers.
Maintains a working relationship with freelance personnel and all outside post production facilities, and negotiates schedules, costs, and working conditions with them.
Supervises editorial sessions when necessary: i.e. film to tape transfer, video editing and paintbox, sound mixing, music production and mixing, and voice recording.
Work with Production Management to assess, budget and manage post-production needs, schedules and costs.
Report cost overruns, projected and actual, to Production, Studio management and Accounting.
Maintain and share a weekly report of all activities involving post-production.
Negotiate, contract and manage outside vendors, contractors and post-production services including sound editors, mixers, sound houses and labs. Track deliverables to and from these services.
Fulfills requests for music composers, sound effects designers and other post-production specialists and track deliverables.
Insure technology standards are met for delivery.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree.
Extensive (5 – 8 years) post-production management experience (feature film and/or television), working in a multi-production environment.
3+ years post-production supervisory experience.
Proven experience developing and managing post-production budgets.
Proven experience with negotiating, contracting and managing vendors, contractors and post-production services including sound editors, mixers, sound houses and labs.
Strong customer service skills and experience dealing with challenging clients.
Current knowledge of feature film editorial processes and systems including Avid and Final Cut Pro.
Experience with digital data and systems and post-production pipelines.
Ability to communicate accurately, tactfully, conveying competency, helpfulness and support.
Experience in personnel management and hiring qualified staff.
Experience developing and managing technology budgets.
Experience with stereoscopic systems, a plus.
