Job Description

General Summary

The Creative Recruiter must be dynamic, energetic and dedicated to attracting Studio talent. This position involves recruiting for both salaried and hourly, production and non-production positions. The Creative Recruiter works closely with hiring managers in performing the job responsibilities associated with sourcing, identifying, interviewing and selecting qualified candidates to join LAIKA’s team.

Essential Job Functions

Partner with hiring managers to discuss current and forecasted hiring needs and prioritize as necessary.
Use a variety of recruiting methods to source hard-to-find candidates.
Work with hiring managers to prepare job briefs, on-line/web postings, and other appropriate sources.
Effectively manage recruiting for assigned open positions and entire process for each candidate as they move through the hiring process.
Screen resumes and reel materials in various formats.
Conduct phone screens and provide feedback to hiring managers.
Assist hiring managers in reviewing resumes, tracking active candidates and scheduling/coordinating interviews with decision makers.
Maintain positive relationships with candidates throughout the interview process.
Attend conventions, conferences, associations, organizations, universities and colleges to provide visibility to the studio and create a pipeline of candidates for full time, freelance and internship positions.
Update/write job descriptions, job briefs, and job postings to attract and focus the applicant pool appropriately.
Generate appropriate offer paperwork and negotiate offers on behalf of hiring managers as needed.
Track, report, and analyze strategic recruiting effectiveness and accomplishments of meeting hiring manager recruiting needs.
Ability to lead meetings including setting up and managing computer software to showcase candidate reels, resumes and websites.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in relevant area of study or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3+ years of full life-cycle recruiting experience.
Previous experience in the entertainment industry preferred.
Ability to meet recruiting goals and deadlines.
Superior communication skills with candidates, internal clients (hiring managers), support staff and external clients.
Effective time management and organizational skills a must.
Excellent relationship-building skills and the ability to understand and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
Excellent analytical/research skills
Trained in interviewing techniques, preferably behavioral Interviewing.
Excellent negotiating skills required.
Expert skills in web searches.
Comfortable using MS Office.

Production Runner

Job Description

General Summary

The Production Runner is responsible for fulfilling a variety of production needs. They are required to respond on short notice and are expected to follow through on all assigned tasks completely and efficiently.

Essential Job Functions

Provides clerical support such as restocking photocopiers with paper, distribution of daily call sheets and lunch/dinner menus, and assisting employees with questions or problems.
Assists Production teams, Directors, Animators and crew when necessary with supplies, departmental snacks, meeting preparation, etc.
Assists the Production Buyer in all pick-ups as well as runs for working meals, early morning pick-ups/late rides home and a variety of essential production errands.
Works with ADs on the shooting floor to ensure stages and walkways are properly maintained.
Ensures various aspects of the shooting floor are maintained including restocking specific stage supplies, updating shot-specific scheduling boards on the stages and assisting as needed.
Maintains fresh coffee in the kitchen.
Empties garbage and recycling for various departments.
Prepares departmental and company-wide parties, including clean-up.
Meets expectation to provide assistance to various departments in short and long term projects.
Tracks spending and maintains regular expense reports for accounting.
Performs moderate physical lifting of items into and out of vehicle and within company facilities.
Assists with miscellaneous tasks.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent is needed.
Ability to communicate and interact effectively with a variety of people.
Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.
Ability to work efficiently in a team environment with an emphasis on communication.
Ability to stay calm under pressure.

RP CG Facial Animator

Job Description

General Summary

The Facial Animator creates the performance of an animated character, conveying emotion, movement, action and personality. He or she analyzes the story reel and audio file for each shot in the film to create realistic facial performances including overall acting and detailed lip sync. This is done by analyzing hundreds of pre‐made faces (in prepared “face libraries”) and the Facial Animator will choose the most appropriate selection for each shot. The process also includes detailed head and camera animation for every shot. This allows for the accurate pre‐visualization of the facial animation for every (applicable) character shot in the film.

Essential Job Functions

Creates rough animation for the Directors, Animation Supervisor, Facial Animation Supervisor, and Stop‐motion Animators for their approval.
Works with Directors, Animation Supervisor, Facial Animation Supervisor, and Stop‐ motion Animators to finalize animation and prepare facial performances for the stage.
Works several weeks ahead of the production schedule to ensure adequate time to meet with the Directors, Animation Supervisor, Facial Animation Supervisor, and the Stop‐motion Animators to perfect the facial performances before the scheduled shoot date.
Takes creative direction from the Directors, Animation Supervisor, Facial Animation Supervisor, and Stop‐motion Animators to ensure the highest quality of facial animation possible.
Responsible for the daily operations and scheduling of the Facial Animation office.
Works with the Facial Animation Supervisor and stage Animators to ensure that all shots are delivered and revised with the highest of efficiency.
Animates using computer software such as Maya.
Has intimate knowledge of all face shapes in order to effectively match the directors’ performance requests.
Reads and breaks down dialog tracks and plan shots.
Does extensive testing of the faces for the RP department to ensure that the kits are built efficiently and accurately.
Communicates daily with production and editorial to stay abreast of all changes in dialog and actions.
Works with Face Librarians to avoid delays on stage when face conflicts arise, or when last minute changes are required.
Identifies upcoming shots that may require building custom faces.
Prepares exposure sheets and quick‐times for animators and for the editorial department.
Helps with training new Facial Animators and Track Readers

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in relevant area of study or equivalent combination of education and experience.
1-2 years experience as an Animator in the entertainment industry
Strong understanding of traditional animation principles.
Stop Motion animation a PLUS.
Working knowledge of Maya.
Ability to bring characters to life.
Acting skills are important.

Sr Software Engineer – Core Systems

General Summary

Responsible for architecting, optimizing and developing core software systems and back end technologies to support application development across a variety of platforms. The ideal candidate will have experience developing applications and tools for VFX and Animation and a passion for designing efficient core systems and technologies to enable that development. This position requires the development of new systems as well as the optimization and update of existing systems and applications. Current projects include the development of server side features for a digital asset management database, designing and optimizing systems for package configuration, and automated software build and deployment, developing backend technology for enterprise messaging and notifications management.

Qualifications

BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent combination of education/or experience.
5+ years experience in applied software development or engineering experience in a feature animation or VFX industrial setting
Proficiency in C/C++, Python, JavaScript, QT, OpenGL, Scala
Experience with web application frameworks; Django, Angular JS, Play
Experience database technologies; PostgreSQL, Graph Databases
Experience with continuous integration and build automation tools; we use Jenkins
Development experience with, production asset and task databases – Shotgun API experience preferred
Experience developing for Linux and Mac operating systems
Knowledge and interest in one or more of the following areas
Motion control, robotics, stop motion animation technologies, digital photography, color science
Developing plugins or pipelines for major VFX and digital content packages; Maya, Nuke, Houdini, Adobe Suite, Katana, RV
Developing for mobile web applications or embedded UI’s
