General Summary

The Senior Technical Director / Developer is an experienced technical problem-solver and is responsible for scene rendering, troubleshooting, lighting, surfacing and compositing of computer-generated elements and scenes for production projects. Working with Directors, Producers, Animators and clients on technical aspects of a project, the Senior Technical Director / Developer leads the technical delivery of the visual style required by the clients, Director, and Production of an animated project. The Senior Technical Director / Developer is also skilled in developing scripts, tools, and workflows to help keep production projects running smoothly.

Essential Job Functions

· Responsible for analyzing the needs for a job and determining the appropriate technical approach based on aesthetic, technical and budgetary parameters for achieving the desired look and technical outcome for the project .
· Troubleshoots problems between various disciplines while balancing short-term production needs with long-term R&D strategic development.
· Plays a leading role in identifying R&D priorities for the CG department including researching new computer graphic techniques, and develops and implements them appropriately.
· Addresses changes in production, schedules and their ramifications to the pipeline.
· Develops and implements user interfaces, tools, and workflows using MEL, python, and other coding tools.
· Creates and improves existing workflows, tools, and techniques to promote the efficiency for the Studio.
· Monitors render issues and optimizes render times.
· Troubleshoots renders and composites scenes in production so as to deliver visual style required by Client and/or Director.
· Maintains a high level of quality while working on multiple projects under aggressive deadlines.
· Must be able to troubleshoot technical and aesthetic challenges.
· Supports the Studio by providing assistance to other departments when necessary.
· Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area of study or equivalent experience.
· 5+ years experience as a Technical Director working on commercials or feature films in two or more of the following areas: animation, modeling, surfacing, rigging, FX animation, lighting, rendering, and compositing.
· Experience scripting and coding new tools as well as maintaining existing tools. MEL and python are required. C/C++ is a plus.
· Ability to work in an extremely fast-paced environment; previous experience in commercial and/or effects.
· Experience with effects-related tools and techniques, such as cloth, hair, fur, particle systems, and fluids.
· Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with Maya, Mental Ray, and Nuke or equivalents.
· iOS, Unity, Android development experience is a plus.
· Ability to manage time according to frequently changing priorities in an efficient manner.
· Ability to work in a self directed manner, and to be adaptable to change.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

General Summary

The Senior Texture Artist paints surface textures on animated characters, props and environments including background flats and matte painting; develops elegant and flexible shader networks to achieve a wide range of visually appealing styles, from cartoony to photoreal.

Essential Job Functions

· Develop the surface materials, textures and UVs for characters props and environments.
· Establish and follow the look of multiple design projects simultaneously under the supervision of each projects’ Director.
· Partner with the modeling, lighting, and effects artists to achieve creative and technical solutions, and troubleshoot any issues.
· Meet schedules and deadlines as established by the Producers on each project.
· Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Film or Fine Arts or other relevant area of study and/or equivalent job experience.
· 5+ years experience in high end production such as commercials or feature films as a Texture Artist.
· Knowledge of a variety of rendering environments. Mental Ray, VRay, and/or Arnold knowledge is a plus.
· Ability to adapt to a large variety of styles including CG integration with live-action, 2D, stop motion, cartoon, and photoreal.
· Strong working knowledge of polygonal texturing and UV layout.
· Strong Photoshop skills
· Working knowledge of Zbrush, Mari, or equivalent 3D paint package.
· Modeling and lighting experience a plus.
· Experience in advanced surface types, global illumination and subsurface scattering a plus.
· Excellent traditional painting skills a plus.
· Look development or lighting experience is preferred.
· Detailed understanding of color spaces.
· Extensive experience working with animated elements to create textures.
· Work sample/reel submission demonstrating qualifications required.
