LAIKA/house, located in Portland, Oregon, is an eclectic team of passionate artists focused on crafting memorable content across all mediums of animation (CG, 2D and Stop Motion), live action and visual effects. If you’ve watched prime-time TV or spent any time online in the past 30 years, you’ve experienced our work with clients including Apple, Coca-Cola, ESPN, M&M’S, Kellogg’s, Honda, Planters and Frito Lay.
LAIKA/house’s Stop Motion Art Intern will gain valuable hands-on production experience and training by working 40 hours a week with our skilled professionals, who are renowned for their stop-motion animation expertise. The Stop Motion Art Intern will work with artists who design, paint, fabricate and construct sets, models, and props.
Essential Job Functions
Under supervision of the Director and Fabrication Artists, help build sets, models and props in our fabrication shops.
Under supervision of the Director, DP and Lead Wrangler, help load-in and dress sets on our stages.
Troubleshoot creative and construction issues.
Good problem-solving skills.
Communicate effectively with production management, creative leads and technical support teams.
Meet deadlines as established by production management.
Assist the art department in day-to-day production operations, including general organization and upkeep of the shops and work areas.
Adhere to rigorous safety standards.
Actively safeguard LAIKA/house’s Proprietary and Confidential Information.
Completed her or his Junior year, or has graduated within the last two years with a Bachelor’s degree in Animation, Film, Fine Art, Computer Science or other relevant area of study.
Good sense of color, with an eye for perspective, composition and lighting.
Ability to design and create both sets and elements for miniature filming using a variety of physical materials and tools including wood shop equipment, foam-carving, casting and painting.
Working knowledge of Photoshop and SketchUp.
Experience working on-set with shoot crews.
Able to work both collaboratively and independently.
Open to taking direction and able to embrace change.
Exhibit a strong attention to detail, communication skills, a great attitude, and work ethic.
