Asset Technical Assistant (Project Hire)

Lucasfilm Animation and creators of the Emmy award winning animation series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and the highly successful animation series “Star Wars: Rebels” are looking for a versatile Asset Technical Assistant to join their production team.

The primary role of the Asset Technical Assistant is to assist the Digital Asset Supervisor for the planning, creation, evaluation and distribution of high quality digital assets for use within company projects. The Asset Technical Assistant will be responsible for a wide variety of the preparatory, planning and review stages of asset development to ensure a high level of productivity is maintained from interpretation of 2D design through final lighting. This work is to support efficient asset production and successful asset sharing between studios and vendors associated with the company projects.

Responsibilities

Asset Pipeline Support
Render final delivered assets to confirm the file matches the images approved in dailies.
Review final delivered assets to ensure they meet the show asset specification and adherence to basic best practices.
Produce documentation, imagery and supporting text to communicate asset quality issues that require remediation during the asset build process.
Asset Builds and Maintenance for Story Department Needs
Assist the Digital Asset Supervisor in optimization and structuring of Maya source files received from the vendor so they can be delivered to the Story team for use in ZViz.
Create proxy character rigs for use by the Story team.
Create and maintain proper SG and OBJ files for use by the Story team from the files sourced from Design and outside vendors.
Aid in ensuring parity between assets used in Story and those being built by the vendors.
Problem-solve and fix technical asset issues in SG/OBJ files used by the Story team.
Additional Asset Department Support
Prepare episodic asset bid templates in Excel.
Prepare supporting imagery of assets for use in the Story Kickoff meetings.
Attend asset kick-off meetings with overseas vendors as requested.

Preferred Qualifications

Required Skills/Competencies:

Demonstrated proficiency in Maya and strong understanding of standard CG asset building methodologies.
Solid modeling, texturing and rigging experience.
Proficiency in Linux.
Experience with industry standard 3D and animation software/tools.
Strong sense of asset development, aesthetics and functionality.
Proven experience working in an established production pipeline.
Detail oriented and strong self-sufficient troubleshooter.
Able to create detailed documentation explaining issues related to asset quality.

Preferred Skills/Competencies:

Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Good communication skills, able to communicate in a professional and friendly manner with co-workers.
Self-starter, energetic, and able to prioritize workload.
Team player that strives to maximize team and department performance.
Detail oriented, highly organized and able to handle a variety of tasks in an efficient manner.

Preferred Education

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in related Art and Design field including Architecture, Industrial Design, Digital Media or equivalent professional experience.
1-2 years in animation, visual effects or video game production with emphasis on creation of 3D models for CG animation.

Production Assistant (Project Hire)

Working closely with the Production Manager & the Look Development Coordinator, the Look Development Production Assistant is responsible for supporting the day to day tasks of the Internal Design Department.

Responsibilities

​Prepare for and follow-up on Design kickoff meetings. Duties include, but are not limited to: design packet creation, printing materials, room set-up and reset, scanning drawings.
Collect and prepare reference for Pre-Design and Design Kickoff meetings and input notes and reference from the meetings into internal creative/asset tracking system.
Add both Omit and existing assets into internal creative/asset tracking system.
Attend all Design Dailies, taking notes and distributing to proper stakeholders, following the meeting, while updating statuses in internal creative/asset tracking system.
Take and distribute Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) notes and complete necessary SOP work on designs.
Assist Coordinator with design deliveries.
Create and maintain design boards.
Maintain original art filing.
Maintain character background documents.
Maintain Design binders.
Train with Coordinator on Screen Display Process, with eventual goal of assuming responsibility for Screen Display Breakdowns and Linking.

Preferred Qualifications

Required Skills/Competencies:

Requires excellent administrative skills, including strong working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Google Docs.
Capable of working independently and as part of a team. High level of initiative, flexibility and confidentiality.
Strong attention to detail, time management, and follow up/follow through skills required.
Ability to establish priorities and multi-task efficiently within a high-pressure, fast paced environment while meeting strict deadlines.
Ability to work in a start-up environment that has a certain degree of ambiguity.

Preferred Education

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in film, art, communications or related filed preferred.
1-2 years of experience in Production minimum, preferably in Animation.

Production Coordinator (Project Hire-Producer)

The Production Coordinator assists with the management of the production process from pre-production through post production on an animated television series.

Responsibilities

Supports the Associate Producer by managing the calendar, scheduling meetings, arranging travel, creating presentations and coordinating other key events.
Prepare, submit and track expense reports for the Associate Producer and other team members as requested, or assigned.
Arranges, coordinates and confirms all travel arrangements on behalf of the Associate Producer. This may include coordinating travel for external production crew as necessary or required.
Acts as a resource for Rebels production and provides the Associate Producer, production staff, artists, and supervisors with support to enable them to complete their work – such as assisting in the day to day running of the departments, managing established schedules through production planning, coordination and troubleshooting.
Assists with the revisions process – scheduling reviews, delivering files internally and externally, handling all aspects of the notes review process, tracking progress of revisions, and working with Associate Producer to make sure the approved revisions are reflected in the locked cut.
Acts as production point person for record sessions – collaborates with the Casting Manager and Associate Producer to schedule records and deliver editorial reference to the recording studio prior to record sessions.
Provides administrative support and back up support to the production team including taking notes, printing documents and schedules, and updating our internal production tracking software.
Prepares routine correspondence, answering phones, packaging and shipping, etc. as needed.
Coordinates and set-up meetings including booking conference rooms, set up of A/V technology needs, overtime meals and catering, running errands. Responsible for coordinating any on-site guest visits.
Assist with various event planning and coordination.
Completes special projects as needed or requested.

Preferred Qualifications

Required Skills/Competencies:

Strong organizational, project management skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse personalities and work styles.
