Associate Editor

Company: Lucasfilm Animation Location: Letterman Digital Arts Center State: California City: San Francisco Benefited/Non-Benefited: Benefited Salary/Hourly: Salary Job Description Associate Editor works closely with Lead Editors, Director, Producer, Assistant Editor, Coordinator and Associate Production Manager on an Animated Series Production. The Associate Editor is responsible for supporting the lead editors by assembling and maintaining the episodes. This entails tracking down missing shots and/or audio. The Associate Editor is responsible for aiding the assistant editors with the ingestion of dailies (story-final) and communicating errors and discrepancies to the First Assistant. He/she is also responsible for temporary sound and/or music editing. The Associate Editor may also run Episodic Director reviews if the Lead Editors are unavailable Requirements Helps Lead Editors establish work procedures for cutting room and how it’s expected to function and perform. Assembles first picture cuts for Lead Editors. Pull, cut, and conform all temp sound effects under creative direction of Director and Editors. Support Daily Duties (from various disciplines) when needed. Temp Sound FX, especially during Full Color reviews. Backup Editor when he/she is sick or on vacation by leading editorial sessions and sweatbox. Tackle special editorial projects and presentations, home video included. Communicate and prepare turnovers to various recipients. Screening and Mix Duties, and screening preparation. Post Production. Make sure sound quality is at the highest quality for all screenings. Collaborate with Producer, Post Production Supervisor and Associate Production Manager. Provide mentoring and training to editorial team. Education / Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Film, Digital Media, related field or equivalent work experience Required Skills / Competencies: 4 years experience in a TV/Feature Editorial Capacity 2 years Editorial experience in Animated TV/Films Advance technical knowledge of AVID Media Composer Understanding of Animation pre-production, production and post production processes Preferred Skills / Competencies: After Effects. Photoshop. Filemaker Pro or database experience. Presentation knowledge a plus. Technical Skills: Avid Media/Film Composer. Smoke, or high-resolution conforming knowledge a plus. Episodic Director

Company: Lucasfilm Animation Location: Letterman Digital Arts Center State: California City: San Francisco Benefited/Non-Benefited: Benefited Salary/Hourly: Salary Job Description The Episodic Director’s professional function is unique, and requires his or her participation in all creative aspects in all phases of the production process. The director methodically breaks down the script into individual scenes and the technical reproduction of a written script into animation format. They need to be intuitive and imaginative, balancing fact and fiction creatively. As a focal person of a production, the director provides leadership for the team. Interpret the script visually i.e. break it down into particular scenes determining locations and settings. Contributes to all the creative elements of a project and participates in molding and integrating them into one cohesive dramatic and aesthetic whole. Work with story and editorial department to set direction for animation requirements for each sequence. Direct 3D Story artists in animation blocking, camera, timing, etc. for each sequence. Conduct production turnover meetings with all department heads and outline all visual and audio animation requirements. Work with Editor to integrate shots and sequences throughout all phases outlines above. Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in animation, film, art or related field. 10+ years of industry experience, preferably in animation; Prior directorial experience required. Exceptional Working knowledge of animation and post-production techniques and terminology. Strong organizational, project management and leadership skills. Strong communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal). Proven ability to work effectively with all levels of production crew, artistic staff and management. Ability to establish priorities and multi-task efficiently within a high pressure environment while meeting strict deadlines. Ability to work in a start-up environment that has a certain degree of ambiguity. Being able to keep calm under the face of constant pressure and creating order in the midst of chaos are other desirable qualities. Must be a demonstrated natural story-teller with strong visual ability.
