Character Modeling/Texturing Artists (Los Angeles)

Luma Pictures is an artist centric feature film VFX studio located two blocks from the beach in Santa Monica, California. We maintain a unique culture with an amazingly talented staff and are always on the lookout for exceptional people for full time and project positions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

– polygonal modeling of creatures, props and environments from photo reference
– optimization of UV’s for maximum efficiency
– developing multilayered photo-real textures for use in multipass rendering.

QUALIFICATIONS:

– Artist must be well versed with Maya and Z-Brush skills are a plus
– Artist must have an understanding of pipeline based productions and multi-pass rendering methods
– Artist must submit show reel demonstrating their ability to model and texture photo-real creatures, characters, props or environments
– Artists must be able to take direction and work in a team focused environment, good communication skills are a must
– You must be willing & able to relocate to LA if necessary.

Responsibilities:

– Bid new visual effects projects and reconcile finances of active productions (adds / omits / adjustments)
– Articulate scope of work based on meetings, scripts, breakdowns, storyboards, reference and previz
– Monitor and communicate changes in scope of work to and from production and clients

FX Artist (Los Angeles)

Responsibilities:

Can develop complex particle and fluid simulations in Maya and FumeFX
Light and render FX passes for specific shots using developed FX rigs
Develop rigs/techniques to implement and optimize approved looks
Produce look tests based on provided reference materials
Creation of tools and scripts to facilitate workflow

Qualifications:

Artist should have advanced knowledge of Maya.
Should also be proficient in
Fume
Realflow
Houdini

Artists must be able to take direction and work in a team focused environment, good communication skills are a must
Python scripting experience is a plus
Understanding multi pass 3D compositing is a plus
Strong time management skills and extremely organized.
Solid work ethic and a positive attitude in the face of challenging situations.

Pluses:

Has working knowledge and expertise in other areas of the pipeline outside of FX.

Digital Coordinator Position (Los Angeles)

Luma Pictures is an artist centric feature film VFX studio located two blocks from the beach in Santa Monica, California. We maintain a unique culture with an amazingly talented staff and are always on the lookout for exceptional people for full time and project positions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

– Coordinate various departments (Asset / Anim / Comp / Lite / FX / etc)
– Review all incoming notes for department relevance and distribute as needed
– Track/manage notes, receivables, artist tasks and assignments
– Walk the floor, gather artist needs, follow up on action items
– Manage render farm priorities
– Evaluate incoming media and discuss/qualify with supervisors
– Take notes at internal and client meetings
– Set up Cinesync sessions

QUALIFICATIONS:

– Strong work ethic
– Meticulous attention to detail
– Solid time-management skills and ability to multi-task
– Exceptional organizational and communication skills
– Positive attitude and effective interpersonal skills: authoritative but approachable
– Proactive with inferring and communicating priorities from available information
– Extensive knowledge of CG pipeline, particularly lighting passes, fur, and FX simulations.
– Ability to take direction positively, work well within a team and thrive under the pressure of tight deadlines
– Additionally, you must be willing & able to relocate to LA if necessary.

PLUSES:

– Understand basic compositing and editorial concepts (After Effects / Final Cut / Avid)
– Experience with databases (File Maker / Sequel Pro)
– Mastery of OSX environment
– Experience with budgeting, breakdowns
– Previous experience coordinating lighting, fur, and/or FX departments.
