3D CG Technical Director

Job Description

Ottawa, Canada – We are currently seeking an experienced 3D CG Technical Director to join our team for new productions. This position is an excellent opportunity for those who are motivated and professional. It is a highly independent position in a challenging yet casual, work environment with flexible work hours.

Job Responsibilities:

Contribute to defining workflows, streamlining processes and developing tools for 3D production
Work closely with the Director, CG Supervisor and Pipeline TD in developing innovative solutions and incorporating new technology
Find solutions that maintain the required look of the production while minimizing render times
Create documentation and tutorials relating to technical issues and help train staff on use and best practices
Ability to identify and communicate possible snags early in asset production
Maintain a high level of quality while working on multiple projects under tight deadlines
Accountable for the overall technical design; approve overall architecture
Accountable for the overall performance and efficiency of the production pipeline
Oversee all internal and external project dependencies, risks, and critical paths; ensure contingency plan is in place; recommend solutions and approve plan and timelines
Evaluate development teams, identifying strengths, problem areas and develop plans for improving performance

Job Requirements:

5 years of production experience
Must be well versed in Maya
Experience with Renderman
Ability to manage time according to current priorities in an efficient manner
Ability to work in a self-directed manner
Ability to lead/mentor/educate team members

2D Layout Artist

Job Description

Ottawa, Canada – We are currently seeking a highly creative Layout artist to join our team working on a challenging, fast-paced production. This individual must be extremely self-motivated, possess exceptional artistic skills, have an impeccable eye for layout, and great attention to detail. The Layout artist will work under the guidance of the Layout Supervisor.

Type: Contract Position
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Start Date: ASAP
Positions: 1

Responsibilities:

Must have strong knowledge of perspective, scale in design principle
Must be adaptable to shift from one storyboard to the next
Ability to work off a storyboard to create layout
Flexibility in style, able to draw in different styles
Ability to interpret storyboards
Draft, design, and lay out realistically styled sequences
Finalize and clean up designs using Photoshop
Execute changes on designs based on feedback of Art Director
Demonstrate strong visual interpretation skills
Keep team informed of potential creative problems
Ensure that production deadlines are met while maintaining the highest standard of quality
Work independently and meet all deadlines

Job Requirements:

Must have experience creating a series.
Excellent understanding of perspective and composition
Highly proficient in Photoshop
Ability to communicate well in a fast-paced and creative environment
Ability to take direction and constructive criticism from supervisors then work effectively on an independent basis
Must possess excellent time management skills with the utmost respect for deadlines
Previous work experience as a layout artist and exposure to animated productions is a definite asset

Job Description

Ottawa, Canada – We are currently seeking a talented 3D CG FX Artist to work on an exciting, high-profile production with worldwide exposure. We are looking for a skilled and experienced candidate who will help reinforce and enhance our animated property, along with the FX team. The 3D FX Artist identifies all effects in a sequence and communicates with Directors, Supervisors and Production when necessary.

Type: Permanent, Full-time Employee

Job Requirements:

Responsible for creating the necessary look as designed by the Director(s), CG Supervisor, and Designer(s) for a particular sequence
Responsible for the creation, shading, and rendering of CG assets and creating sophisticated particle simulations
Ensure the on-time delivery of effects elements within the set production schedule
Ability to work independently
Ability to generate stock, reusable FX and FX style guides for use by the FX team
Strong attention to detail
Proven experience in producing effects such as smoke, fire, clouds, water, steam and explosions
2+ years’ experience working with Dynamics and nDynamics in Maya
Experience with Houdini an asset

3D Rigger

Job Description

Ottawa, Canada – We are currently seeking a talented Rigger to work on an exciting, high-profile production with worldwide exposure. The ideal candidate would be a highly motivated artist who has built rigs and is capable of maintaining a high level of visual and technical quality for all characters. They must have an understanding of anatomy, muscles, cloth/hair behaviour and be familiar with a scripted environment. This artist must be attuned to the needs of a production pipeline and those of the animators we support. Our team works in an intensely art driven environment and the candidate must be able to work collaboratively with other departments including modelling, animation, FX, and lighting.

A minimum of 3 years’ experience rigging characters in Maya
Knowledge of character kinematics, deformations, and topology

Strong communications skills
Ability to generate tools to facilitate the rigging and simulation pipeline
