3D Rigger

Job Description

Ottawa, ON – We are currently seeking a talented Rigger to work on an exciting, high-profile production with worldwide exposure. The ideal candidate would be a highly motivated artist who has built rigs and is capable of maintaining a high level of visual and technical quality for all characters. They must have an understanding of anatomy, muscles, cloth/hair behaviour and be familiar with a scripted environment. This artist must be attuned to the needs of a production pipeline and those of the animators we support. Our team works in an intensely art driven environment and the candidate must be able to work collaboratively with other departments including modelling, animation, FX, and lighting.

Job Requirements:

A minimum of 3 years’ experience rigging characters in Maya
Knowledge of character kinematics, deformations, and topology
Knowledge of character pipeline and workflow techniques
Proficiency in technical problem solving
Some knowledge of layout, modelling, rigging, simulations, and animation tools and workflows currently used in the industry
Strong communications skills
Ability to generate tools to facilitate the rigging and simulation pipeline

3D Lighting and Rendering Technical Director

Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for the lighting development of CG assets to be used across shots and sequences
Build and support light rigs, shading setups and composites to be used by other lighters
Develop shots and render passes as needed in collaboration with lead and shot compositors
Supervise and continually liaise with all production personnel
Work with the Lighting team to ensure an optimal workflow for a RenderMan and Mental Ray pipeline
Create efficient rendering setups to optimize render farm usage
Technically and creatively promote and maintain consistent shot quality and desired look as defined by the Director and CG Supervisor

Job Requirements:

5+ years of production experience
Must be well versed in Maya, RenderMan and Mental Ray
Thorough understanding of techniques and technologies related to CG rendering and look development
Good understanding of colour space
Knowledge of lighting techniques
Ability to manage time according to current priorities in an efficient manner
Ability to work in a self-directed manner
Ability to lead/mentor/educate team members
Must be a Canadian citizen

Job Responsibilities:

Contribute to defining workflows, streamlining processes and developing tools for 3D production
Work closely with the Director, CG Supervisor and Pipeline TD in developing innovative solutions and incorporating new technology
Find solutions that maintain the required look of the production while minimizing render times
Create documentation and tutorials relating to technical issues and help train staff on use and best practices
Ability to identify and communicate possible snags early in asset production
Maintain a high level of quality while working on multiple projects under tight deadlines
Accountable for the overall technical design; approve overall architecture
Accountable for the overall performance and efficiency of the production pipeline
Oversee all internal and external project dependencies, risks, and critical paths; ensure contingency plan is in place; recommend solutions and approve plan and timelines
Evaluate development teams, identifying strengths, problem areas and develop plans for improving performance

Job Requirements:

5 years of production experience
Must be well versed in Maya
Experience with Renderman
Ability to manage time according to current priorities in an efficient manner
Ability to work in a self-directed manner

We are looking for a skilled and experienced candidate who will help reinforce and enhance our animated property, along with the FX team. The 3D FX Artist identifies all effects in a sequence and communicates with Directors, Supervisors and Production when necessary.

Type: Permanent, Full-time Employee

Job Requirements:

Responsible for creating the necessary look as designed by the Director(s), CG Supervisor, and Designer(s) for a particular sequence
Responsible for the creation, shading, and rendering of CG assets and creating sophisticated particle simulations
Ensure the on-time delivery of effects elements within the set production schedule
Ability to work independently
Ability to generate stock, reusable FX and FX style guides for use by the FX team
Strong attention to detail
Proven experience in producing effects such as smoke, fire, clouds, water, steam and explosions
2+ years’ experience working with Dynamics and nDynamics in Maya
Experience with Houdini an asset
Must reside in Canada and be willing to relocate to Ottawa, Ontario

The 3D FX Supervisor is responsible for identifying all effects in a sequence and liaising with Directors, Supervisors and Production when necessary. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to effectively supervise the FX development team both technically and artistically.

Experience with leading and supervising a team; leading the FX team, managing their productivity and mentoring/training
