Method Studios is currently in search of a Render Wrangler to join its Technology team.
The Render Wrangler’s duties include monitoring and load-balancing a distributed batch queue, assisting artists with error jobs, and assisting in the day-to-day maintenance of the render farm.

Responsibilities and Duties

Monitor render farm and make sure it is that it is well utilized at all times
Upload/Download items from various transfer sites (ftp, faspex etc)
Ensure that tasks are done to Production’s specifications
Monitor disk space usage
Maintain Studio’s high security standards
Alert various groups to potential issues that are developing

Qualifications

Must be willing to work nights and weekend
Knowledge of basic data i/o
Professional demeanor and basic office skills (ability to answer phones and email)
Experience in Visual Effects (render/PA experience is a plus)
Highly motivated and well organized
Excellent communication skills
Good demeanor maintaining a calm and conservative attitude with clients and Production staff.
Ability to work long hours
Python knowledge and a Computer Science background are required

Matchmove

Method Studios is currently in search of a Tracking and Matchmove Artist to join its 3D team of artists.
The primary focus of this position is in the integration of on-set data, tracking details, Previz, animation support, layout scenes, and Outsource Material unification.

Responsibilities and Duties

supervise the tracking of CG elements so that both camera and objects match live-action footage in a 3D environment and maintain consistent shot quality
report to Layout Supervisor regarding on-set supervision, the integration of on-set data, tracking details, Previz, animation support, layout scenes, and Outsource Material unification
work with production to create matchmove schedules and project targets for designated show
define any specific matchmove tools required for the show and identify any additions or modifications
act as the point of contact between Matchmove and show supervisors
assist with any technical/production issues and utilize camera knowledge and on-set skills when necessary
responsible for camera tracking, matchmove and layout work on shots, object tracking, Rotomation, and Previz when needed
tracking shots in Syntheyes
learn facility pipeline to be able to provide cameras and layouts from tracking/layout to the other departments

Qualifications

proficiency in 3D Equalizer, Maya, and Boujou
knowledge of 3D tracking softwares (Syntheyes, Pftrack, Boujou, etc.)
proven Matchmove experience
Nuke experience a plus
knowledge of Shake and tracking experience in Shake an advantage. experience with other tracking software such as Matchmover also an asset
must be able to model and manipulate geometry for scene reconstruction and to aid tracking
must demonstrate an eye for detail and precision with strong problem-solving skills
must have a solid understanding of camera movement and filming techniques
general understanding of linux/unix-based operating systems
must embrace the essential components of a strong team: open communication, trust, respect, loyalty, and shared vision.
good at taking direction and implementing changes with quick turn-around
excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

VFX Editor

Method Studios is currently in search of an Editor to join its team of artists. The Editor incorporates all required versions (from animatics through to final composites) of visual effects shots into the current cuts of live action sequences for the review of Supervisor and Producers. He/she also maintains a functioning environment where the Visual Effects Supervisor can evaluate any version of a shot in the current sequences for aesthetic and technical direction. The Editor is the liaison between vendor facility and client VFX editorial department.

Responsibilities and Duties

receive and process client count sheets and line-up info, and translates data into the internal facility shot online database (Shotgun)
check plate frames received to guarantee the frames that the facility received can indeed complete the shot as intended by the client
publish EDL / Quicktimes to our internal dailies system using a GUI interface or commandline Shell script
convert Quicktimes to various codec/resolution specs per client or facility needs
work with reference footage provided by client / facility to extract frame sequences and send ref to our internal database system
work with audio files to provide animation team with sync sound for dialogue/action
drive Avid playback for client and internal supervisor review sessions
create Avidref JPEG frame sequences that represent the Client’s creative intent for each shot at the correct frame length for final delivery
upon show completion, assist with how-to/making of shot reels and final archive of shots/sequences

Qualifications

minimum 1 year industry experience with Avid Media Composer (including High Definition projects)
experienced with using timelines, client media consolidations, Avid effects, titles, etc. to complete work
knowledge of Final Cut Pro a plus
familiar with Cinesync, for client teleconferencing and review calls
knowledge of computer network and operating systems
excellent client relation and communications skills

Lighting TD

Candidate must have expert level experience working with V-ray and good knowledge of Maya and the use of V-ray within Maya.

Responsibilities and Duties

responsible in maintaining lighting pipeline and workflow as dictated by project
properly assess the appropriate balance of lighting and compositing for a given shot
properly economize renders while still achieving required quality
closely work with the artistic leads to ensure creative direction is achieved

Qualifications

expert knowledge of V-ray
minimum 3 years experience working in Feature Film and Commercial animation
advanced understanding of lighting and advanced shading networks
advanced knowledge of Fusion or similar node-based compositing package
good knowledge of Maya, and the use of V-ray within Maya
solid knowledge of general modeling, animation, texturing, choreography, FX and surfacing
good balance between artistic and technical skill
thorough understanding of linear workflow

Roto/Paint Artist

Responsibilities and Duties

reviewing, managing, creating, and preparing 2D mattes and/or splines to be used in a final composite
assessing assigned tasks and reporting to the Head of 2D VFX
reporting progress of work to the Producer and following up with the compositor requesting the rotoscope mattes
utilizing rotoscope techniques, established by company, in either Silhouette or Nuke
requesting feedback and ensuring notes from the Roto Artist
maintaining clean working environment in case work is shared with other artists

Qualifications

minimum 1 year experience in film industry, with some experience in a VFX facility
education in masking layers and vector animation (Flash, AfterEffects, Combustion, etc.) preferred
vfx experience in paint (marker/wire removals), keying, compositing, or tracking (ideally through Silhouette software)
must work well in a team environment
swing (night) shift flexibility a plus
