Job Description

We are currently looking for an experienced Rigger / Character TD to be responsible for the creation of high-quality animation setups for various assets, ranging from digital doubles and creatures, to vehicles and props. The role also includes the creation of additional dynamic systems such as muscles, cloth and hair.

Required Skills & Experience:

Minimum 3-5 years experience as a Character TD / Rigger within an animation/VFX production environment
Thorough understanding of techniques and technologies relating to character rigging and animation
Comprehension of core principles relating to rigging such as deformation order and the transformation matrix
Ability to rig, weight and set up controls and interfaces for characters
Excellent understanding of anatomy, volumes and masses, dynamics and character motion
Expert knowledge and understanding of mesh deformation in Maya
In-depth knowledge of 3D animation standards and successful implementation of 3D animation tools
Experience with skeletal and facial systems and workflows and the creation of user interfaces for the animation team
Expert knowledge of Maya, particularly Maya rigging tools (including skeleton creation, skinning, IK/FK setup, blend-shapes, deformers and animation controls)
Advanced Mel and Python Scripting, C++ programming experience a bonus
Excellent understanding of the entire visual effects process, from previs through modeling, to texturing, animation and rendering
Must be able to work within a team environment
Good communication skills
Excellent problem-solving abilities
Excellent organisation, communication, and interpersonal skills

Optional Skills / Experience:

Cloth, muscles, and hair (nCloth, Maya hair, etc.)
Animation experience a plus

Job Description

The Environment Artist is responsible for hands-on creation of efficient and photo-realistic CG environments to be used across multiple shots and sequences. The position requires a high degree of technical skill and artistic judgement. This is a cross-discipline role, and requires exceptional abilities in modelling, matte/texture painting, lighting, rendering, and compositing, as well as a strong understanding of all facets of a CG production. This position requires constant attention to creating and enhancing efficiencies in the Method environment pipeline, and as such requires a person with a strong commitment to teamwork and technical excellence.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Understand all aspects of CG environment creation
Develop efficient CG environment scenes and workflows
Ensure that assigned shots fit in the continuity of a sequence and fulfill the vision of the VFX Supervisor
Ensure the quality of final shots
Ability to troubleshoot technical production issues
Oversee and help optimize shots for rendering
Communicate creative and technical issues effectively
Must work within the Method pipeline and publish tools and scripts as prescribed
Must have an ability to be adaptable when changes in priorities and schedules arise

Required Skills & Experience:

Minimum two years experience as a CG artist, preferably as a CG environment artist or matte painter, with a good understanding of CG modelling, sculpting, matte painting, texturing, 3D projections, lighting and compositing
Expert knowledge of Maya and Houdini knowledge a plus
Excellent artistic skills, with a particular emphasis on real-world lighting and photography is an asset
An understanding of colour theory and LUTs
Tool building and scripting knowledge an asset
Expert knowledge of one or more of the following renderers, depending on show requirements: VRay, Mantra, Arnold, Renderman
Experience rendering through a render management tool, eg. Qube
Good knowledge of Nuke and Photoshop
Familiarity with Lidar processing and environment creation software such as Enwaii Paint Effects, Vue, Speed Tree is an asset
Knowledge of Mari an asset
Some scripting skills an asset (Python, mel, hscript)
Demonstrable ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
Able to take directions and adaptable to change
Good at improvising and problem-solving
Linux knowledge
