Job Description

Working closely with the CG Supervisor and the Rigging Supervisor, the Rigger will be responsible for building robust and efficient rigs and working with the CG team to implement and support these rigs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

With the CG Supervisor, Rigging, Animation, and Modeling Leads, identify the production’s specific rigging needs
Design efficient rigs appropriate to the production’s needs
Advise modeling teams on suitability of models for rigging and any changes needed
Work with the CG team implementing the rigs and rigging the assets
Design and implement scripted solutions for maximum speed and efficiency of rigging
Work with leads and supervisors in the testing of rigged assets.
During production, support all the rigged assets.

Qualifications

Rigging knowledge in industry production software such as Maya or Houdini
Knowledge of other packages an asset, such as Motion Builder
Must have some experience as a rigger on high-end feature film productions
Excellent problem solving and communication skills required
Excellent interpersonal skills with an emphasis on inspired leadership required
A strong sense of self-motivation and ability to work with little supervision required
Linux scripting experience, especially in Bash/Python is desirable

Layout Coordinator

Job Description

Responsibilities

Reporting to the layout department Production Manager and Supervisors, the Layout Coordinator is responsible for the management of information flow for the department across multiple projects. Taking supervisor requests, recording supervisor notes, and monitoring the progress of the crew are all part of the daily responsibilities of the Layout Coordinator.
In addition, the Layout Coordinator serves as a key front-line representative of the department and frequently deals directly with show PMs and supervisors. This requires a highly professional demeanor and diplomacy.

Duties

· Work with production team and Pipeline to set up shot tracking system (Shotgun)
· Ensure clear file structure is in place, create layout shot tasks for all shows. As show progresses, keep on top of new needs, and work with artists, supervisors and PMs to create directories when necessary.
· Participate in show set-up meetings, take notes from these meetings and confirm that all stages of set-up are documented and assigned.
· Introduce new artists to Shotgun and time logging, ensure the crew is familiar with show procedures. Ensure that all crew are added to appropriate email groups.
· Monitor task turnover dates and liaise with department leads when these come in.
· Maintain list of all roto and matchmove requests and target dates and completion status. Liaise with roto/mm coordinator to set priorities.
· Maintain database of shot data to include all material sent from client and request any missing material from client.
· Set up and maintain shot board.
· Work with supervisor and PM to create dailies playlist. Work with show PMs to schedule reviews of dailies. Notify relevant artists when it is time to be in dailies. Let crew know if dailies is canceled or delayed.
· Take notes during dailies and review with supervisor before publishing to the crew. Ensure all dailies notes are input into Shotgun and emailed to relevant artists and established email groups.
· Book rooms for department calls and meetings, and maintain all calendar events per production team.
· Participate in daily production meetings and artist rounds with production team and follow up on notes and action items that come from these.
· Walk the floor, gather artist needs, follow-up on action items. Have a general idea of what the team is working on; inform producer/supervisor when they know of issues that are happening on the floor.
· Maintain current list of all shots statuses and task assignments (through Shotgun and other means.)
· Make sure artists are aware of targets and assure that they have all info and materials they need, and help them get it if they don’t.
· Create daily posting targets list and ensure all relevant artists are aware of targets. Maintain communication to know when material is ready for review by supervisor, and notify producer if any targets will be missed
· Collect supervisor feedback and input into Shotgun, and notify relevant artists and email groups
· Manage render farm priorities: work with crew to establish render needs, and with studio wranglers to ensure that available resource matches needs.
· Coordinate time sheets from crew, ensure they’re all complete and pass to producer for review and approval.
· Help with ordering / organizing lunch / dinner / snacks when working OT

Qualifications

· MUST HAVE experience working at a visual effects studio, or similar CG-related industry, specifically aiding in the asset production and artist workflow of a project.
· Must be qualified to work in Canada (citizen or PR) or already have open work permit
· Must be familiar with Office programs such as Word and Excel
· Experience with production programs such as Filemaker Pro and Shotgun are assets
· Experience working on multiple concurrent projects is a definite asset

This is a full-time position requiring periodic overtime and potentially offset shift work.
