Studio Operations Coordinator

Job Description

Studio Operations Coordinator reports to the Studio Operations Manager and coordinates various operations to ensure the daily running of the Visual FX studio.

Operations

· Coordinate and oversee production related moves within the facility. This includes coordinating the movement of desks, chairs and Visual FX computer equipment throughout the facility. Involves liaising between I.T, Facilities and Production.
· Coordinate the inventory and ordering of operational equipment/supplies and (when required) assistance in ordering computer equipment for the studio.
· Coordinate movement of staff throughout facility during studio renovations. Involves liaising with I.T and Facilities.
· Representative of Health and Safety Committee.
· Assist with security during company security audits.

Public Relations & Programs

· Plan, coordinate and executive company programs and events within guidelines of budget, as overseen by Studio Operations Manager.
· Fostering relationships with local hotels, event spaces and businesses in order to further develop business relationships for Method Studios and Encore. Involves Public Relations for the company.
· Liaise with Human Resources and Recruitment on creating and supplying “Welcome to Vancouver” package for new hires coming to Vancouver.
· Responsible for creating and circulating internal company newsletter.
· Provides social networking/marketing assistance for Method Studios.
· Maintain company events calendar on Confluence (International studio database)
· Create internal company event flyers/banners

Payroll

· Conduct weekly payroll approval procedure for Method employees. Includes approving/correcting, and offering ongoing payroll support for upwards of 300 employees. Involves liaising between Finance, Production and Human Resources.

Travel

· Coordinate and oversee production and company related travel arrangements for executives and artists. Including arranging flights, short-term and long-term accommodation. Involves liaising with Human Resources, Finance and Production.
· Administering corporate Travel Requests with the Head of Studio to seek approval for all necessary travel.

Finance

· Administering the use of Head of Studio and Crew Production Manager’s credit cards. Involves signing off on all purchases, coding and supplying evidence for each purchase, as well as supplying general ongoing support. Involves liaising with Finance and Production
· Manage company travel budget as overseen by Head of Studio.
· Oversee budgets for studio events

General

· Assists Head of Studio and Head of Production as required
· Attends to all other duties as requested by the Studio Operations Manager and Head of Production.

Job Description

Reporting to the Executive Producer, the Visual Effects Producer is responsible and holds the key role for managing the production and workflow of feature film visual effects for the facility, while actively liaising as the senior point of contact with the Studio (client). The Visual Effects Producer will plan the organization of the artist establishment, team implementation, building and nurturing, and overall scheduling of the artists. The Visual Effects Producer must implement the systems necessary to achieve the final product of visual effects shots and sequences for feature films in a time sensitive environment.

The Visual Effects Producer oversees the management of cost reporting and maintains the budget and schedule through change orders with the studio when applicable. The Visual Effects Producer also works intimately with the Visual Effects Supervisor and Digital Effects Supervisor, driving the technical pipeline established to achieve the desired effects, and helping to oversee that any proprietary systems or computer code needed on the project be engineered within the necessary time frame.

Other responsibilities include management of information flow, preparing and executing large VFX budgets generally exceeding $1,000,000, breaking down scripts, initiating and fielding studio and production calls, invoices and payments, and overseeing contract responsibilities with the client. The requirement to act as a backup for the Visual Effects Supervisor in house or on set may arise from time to time.
The Visual Effects Producer will also be called upon to assist in setting up and maintaining systems for in-house information flow and retrieval custom to the project and project management, in concert with the Executive Producer. The Visual Effects Producer should always be looking for ways to streamline and improve communication and information flow as it pertains to VFX projects.
In addition, the Visual Effects Producer serves as a key front-line representative of the company interfacing directly with clients. This direct client interaction requires a highly professional demeanour, diplomacy, and confidentiality of the information shared between the two parties.

Responsibilities:

Work closely with the Visual Effects Supervisor and Digital Effects Supervisor to create and maintain overall budgets, project schedule, and staff resource needs for the project.
Along with the VFX Supervisor and DFX Supervisor, drive the technical pipeline established to achieve the desired effects, and helping to oversee that any proprietary systems or computer code needed on the project be engineered within the necessary time frame
Prepare key dates, schedules and assumptions for the work for overall facility planning
Manage crew performance and serves as a mentor for the leadership team as needed
Oversee the management of cost reporting and maintains the budget and schedule through change orders with the studio when applicable
Supervise day to day operations of production crew, ensuring milestones and cost projections are met
Other responsibilities include management of information flow, preparing and executing large VFX budgets, breaking down scripts, initiating and fielding studio and production calls, invoices and payments, and overseeing contract responsibilities with the client. The requirement to act as a backup for the Visual Effects Supervisor in house or on set may arise from time to time.

Requirements:

MUST have 5+ years work experience as a VFX Producer on feature films
On set experience in a VFX production role is a must
Proficiency in general Microsoft office suite and database applications such as Filemaker Pro and Shotgun
Must possess very strong organizational and communication skills and be able to handle a variety of tasks in an efficient manner while meeting deadlines.

DFX Supervisor

Job Description

The Digital Effects (DFX) Supervisor ensures throughput of shots towards timely completion, via client’s approval, and maintains a functioning environment where the DFX Supervisor and client can focus on artistic performance without technology hindrance. The DFX Supervisor works with the VFX Supervisor, Producer and Production Manager and is responsible for developing a strong, flexible CG and 2D pipeline. This includes developing, maintaining (or approving) techniques, provide team-building through developing structure, lead artists roles and responsibilities. The DFX Supervisor also works with the Project Coordinator and Producer to facilitate scheduling of artists and resources and works with the VFX Supervisors to provide artistic and technical notes to the team. R&D, following CG elements from concept through final comp and overseeing all elements created by the CG team is also part of this role. The DFX Supervisor may be called upon to work “on the box” as an artist as show size and needs require.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Visual Targets and Quality

Addresses the body of work arriving from scanning. Previews for initial colour correction requirements and initial shot composite requirements.
Monitors shot continuity in all aspects of quality control including final colour correction for timeable delivery.

Team Building

View reels / recommend artists for interview
Attend interviews / interview candidates
Recommend candidates for hiring in consultation with leads

Team Training

ensure leads are fluent with production techniques
Define crew training plans with leads
Oversee training of new team members
One-on-one training with team members
Assist leads where necessary with training

Team Guidance

Facilitate production needs of every team member
Correct and caution team members as necessary
Maintain team morale / provide incentives

R&D

Test new techniques and technology as necessary
Help leads and crew develop “one-off” techniques as necessary
Scheduling and Daily Work

Team scheduling and shifts with Production team
Monitors resources, throughout each day, and delegates work priorities based on fluctuations in schedule and shot progress.
Oversees the management of the render farm and resource workload. Monitors render queue and reviews previous night logs for deviances, on a daily basis.
Reviews progress of shots for deliveries, on a daily basis, and approves shots as ready for deliveries when the criteria are met.
Occasionally performs as a Senior Compositor as needed, completing shots towards final and troubleshooting shot related issues.
