Look Development Artist

Job description:

Within an amazing full CG feature film, Mikros image Canada is looking for Look Development Artists to be in charge of the shading-surfacing as well as creating complex, realistic shading network. The Look Development Artists ensure all textures meet the look and aesthetic of the projects as well as technical requirements of the pipeline.

Responsibilities:

• Create photorealistic shading for digital assets using the supplied textures and photographic reference material and/or concept artwork;
• Liaise with CG Supervisor on a regular basis for work allocation and feedback;
• With direction from the production Supervisors, establish the shading network pipeline for the show;
• Work closely with the CG Supervisor, Modeler and Texture Supervisors to establish the overall workflow;
• Work closely with the modeling and texture team to ensure that the geometry and textures are optimum;
• Work with lighters and shader writers to resolve technical issues and ensure assets are optimized for rendering;

Qualifications:

• Thorough understanding of the visual effects pipeline from modeling through texturing, lighting and rendering;
• Strong creative skills and a thorough understanding of the techniques required to generate shading network using a combination of textures and shaders;
• Thorough understanding of the shading process and the ability to both interpret designs and photoreal references;
• Excellent Maya skills and renderers such as Katana, Arnold;
• Strong understanding of image color space relating to texture painting;
• Excellent light understanding;
• Ability to work well in a team and solve asset specific issues independently;
• Previous film industry experience;
• Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident in Canada and be available to work in Montreal, Quebec.

Technical Director – Pipeline

Job description:

The Technical Director – Pipeline is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, maintaining and supporting the pipeline and production toolset. He directly reports to the CTO.

Responsibilities:

• Work closely with the Pipeline team to develop and maintain the production and pipeline tools;
• React to pipeline development challenges and troubleshoot solutions;
• Provide and update documentation and assist with the roll-out of new technology.

Qualifications:

• College diploma in 3D graphic arts/3D animation;
• Minimum 5 years of work experience as a Hair Artist in a film production environment, animated TV series or visual effects;
• Well versed in Python and Linux and knowledge of PySide/PyQt is an asset;
• Strong command of Maya, Arnold and Katana is an asset;
• Team spirit and great problem-solving skills;
• Interpersonal and communication skills;
• Comfortable with a LINUX/UNIX environment;
• Knowledge of an asset manager such as SHOTGUN is a plus;

Qualifications

Job description:

The Rigging Artist is responsible for designing and maintaining a smooth and efficient rig for CG assets. He or she must have a strong understanding of CG pipelines and production methods and a strong management style with excellent organizational and artistic skills.

Responsibilities:

· Work with the Rigging Lead/Supervisor to establish a rig that fully supports an animation style that reflects the tone of the film, and maintain the style throughout the film;
· Work to create top quality body and facial rigs that meet the desired quality and style;
· Work closely with the Animation Team to ensure that the productions’ needs are understood and met, and that animators have fast, efficient, intuitive puppets;
· Create and adjust rigging standards;
· Provide creative ideas and solutions for the film on both a visual and technical level;
· Be a key contributor to create an engaging animated film of top quality, while managing and reducing the complexities of production;
· Be able to flag and solve potential problems to stay on schedule;

Qualifications

· 5+ years of experience working in the animation industry as a Rigging artist;
· Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of CG, pipeline and associated software/plugins;
· Experience in a variety of Maya rigging techniques, and the ability to optimize performance of rigs;
· Advanced hero character rigging experience with a Maya based pipeline;
· Must be able to take direction;
· Expert in Maya, with strong skills in MEL and Python scripting;

The Previz & Layout Artist build the foundation of a shot, pulling together the various objects to compose the CG scene across a variety of styles and projects, create high quality staging.

Responsibilities:

· Create sequences that convey the story through traditional camera principles in a stereoscopic environment;
· Based on the storyboards, establish shot composition, and basic character blocking;
· Understand and establish how camera enhances and serves the story at a specific point in the film;
· Deliver assignments based on the established quotas and as per the schedule;
· Work with the animation and asset build departments to fix any technical issues;
· Maintaining consistent quality, style and continuity, both visually and technically throughout the project;

Qualifications:

· 5+ years of experience working in the animation industry as a Previz & Layout artist;
· Excellent Maya skills and a strong knowledge of the principles of cinematic staging, blocking and camera work;
· Strong background in feature CG character animation a plus;
· Good attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues in order to maintain continuity within the sequence;

Mikros Canada is looking for 3D Character Animators with experience and knowledge of the principles of character animation to join our growing team to create stylised performance.
It’s a fast-paced environment and the studio is committed to creating high-quality animation. Candidates should thrive as part of a team and take direction well under the supervision Animation Director and the lead while respecting the vision of the director and the style of the film.
Your primary responsibility will be the animation of all assigned characters and props. We are looking for artists with a strong sense of design in their poses and an aptitude for facial animation and lip sync while maintaining strong fundamentals in weight and body mechanics.

Responsibilities:

• Work with the storyboard/animatic/layout and create feature level, key-framed animation;
• Working in continuity with shot before and after;
• Work with animation quotas given by the production;
• Work closely with animation leads and director and be able to translate their thought into your work;
• Prepare elements for presentation in dailies and walk around for approval;

Qualifications:

• College diploma or equivalent in 3D computer graphics/3D animation;
• More than (5-7) years of work experience in 3D animation using MAYA in a film production/animated TV series;

Qualifications:

• College or Bachelor Diploma or equivalent in 2D or 3D computer graphics, graphics or visual arts;

• Previous experience creating surfacing for stylized characters, organic and digital painting models;

• Create 3D assets while respecting the Supervisor’s direction;
• Maintain timing and production quotas given by the coordination team;
•Execute the corrections requested by the Supervisor by showing an analytic mind;
• Organize the workload and prepare presentation elements for approval;
• Communicate and research information if necessary;
• Maintain a good team dynamics;

Qualifications:

• College diploma or equivalent in 2D or 3D computer graphics or visual arts;
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Character Modeler in a film production environment / animation TV series or visual effects;
• Must be capable of creating a model using the appropriate topology and have strong skills with UV mapping;
