Senior Compositor

Description

The Compositor is responsible for seamlessly integrating all layers and elements of a shot as well as shot finaling. The Compositor must have a strong artistic eye, and be able to effectively communicate with the animation director, team supervisor and art director.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Compose scenes and sequences to meet art and story direction.
• Utilize artistic and technical skills to maintain continuity throughout a sequence.
• Able to composite multiple types of shots from simple to moderately difficult.
• Able to meet productivity and quota targets.

Experience Requirements:

• Strong knowledge of Nuke.
• Excellent artistic skills and a good eye for color.
• Strong knowledge of either Houdini and/or Maya.
• 4+ feature film Nuke compositing experience (animated feature films preferred).
• Strong knowledge of compositing workflow and application interface.
• Able to collaborate, take direction positively, work well within a team, solve technical challenges and thrive under the pressure of tight deadlines.
• Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada and available to work in Montreal, Quebec;

Modeling Supervisor

After “Mune, The Moon Guardian”, “Astérix : le domaine des Dieux”, “The Little Prince” and “Captain Underpants”, Mikros Image Canada is now working on “Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero” a new animation film in collaboration with Fun Academy.

Job description:

The Modeling Supervisor is responsible for the direction and management of the modeling team while working under the supervision of the Production Manager and CG Supervisor. He is in charge of giving the necessary coaching and training to its team in order to reach its objectives and is responsible for the entire process of modeling. As the Supervisor for the department, he brings and implements his expertise both technically and artistically for the completion of the project.

Responsibilities:

MANAGEMENT :

– Develop, manage and maintain timing and production quotas in accordance with the coordination team;
– Attend and actively participate in meetings with clients;
– Assign, supervise and review the modeling team’s work;
– Organize and conduct team meetings;
– Inform the team about changes and news related to the project;
– Train and supervise the team throughout production;
– Give feedback to each artist about their performance;
– Actively participate in the selection of new artists;

– Support and facilitate the integration of new employees;
– Attend and actively participate to supervisors meetings;
– Perform other related tasks as assigned by management;

PRODUCTION:

– Before and during production, develop the department’s pipeline in collaboration with the R&D Director, the CG Supervisor and other department Supervisors;
– Write the necessary documentation about the pipeline’s development;
– Develop and improve procedures and tools to facilitate production;
– Work closely with the other supervisors in order to ensure a good transition into animation, rendering, etc. and support the teams throughout production;
– Prepare guidelines and instructions to be followed by the modeling team;
– Anticipate, analyze and find solutions to potential and actual technical problems;
– Develop and manage the modeling work process (nomenclature, references, resources needed, methodology, tools, schedules, work assignments, etc.);
– Check the consistency of the work done by the modeling team;
– Keep the documentation for the team and others supervisors updated;

– Act as the main spokesperson during exchanges between departments;
– Be available to answer questions from the team;

Qualifications:

– Minimum five (5) to seven (7) years of work experience as a modeling artist in a film production environment, animated TV series or visual effects;
– Minimum three (3) years of work experience as a Modeling Supervisor;
– College or Bachelor Diploma or equivalent in 2D or 3D computer graphics, graphics or visual arts;
– Excellent knowledge of the following software: MAYA, ZBRUSH and/or MUDBOX;
– Ability to work within a Linux/Unix and/or Windows environment is a plus;
– Knowledge of an asset manager as Shotgun is a plus;
– Ability to manage a team;
– Ability to train and guide a team;
– Bilingual (English and French);
– Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada and available to work in Montreal, Quebec;

Texture & Surfacing Supervisor

Job description:

Under the supervision of the Line Producer and the CG Supervisor, the Texture & Surfacing Supervisor is responsible for the direction and management of his department. The supervisor gives the necessary coaching and training to its team to reach its objectives. He is responsible for the entire process of textures, surfacing, shading, grooming, Look Dev and UV’s until the end of production. The Texture & Surfacing Supervisor brings his expertise to both the technical and artistic aspects of the project.

Responsibilities:

MANAGEMENT:

– Develop, manage and maintain timing and production quotas in accordance with the coordination team;
– Assign, supervise and review the work of the texturing & surfacing team;
– Organize and conduct team meetings;
– Inform the team about the changes and news related to the projects;
– Train and supervise the team throughout the production;
– Give feedback to each artist about their performance;
– Actively participate in the selection of new artists;
– Support and facilitate the integration of new employees;
– Attend and actively participate to supervisors meetings;
– Perform other tasks as assigned by the company’s management.

– Keep the documentation for the team and others supervisors updated;
– Act as the main spokesperson for exchanges between departments;
– Be available to answer questions from its team and other teams.

Qualifications:

– College or Bachelor Diploma or equivalent in 2D or 3D computer graphics, graphics or visual arts;
– Minimum 5-7 years Texturing & Surfacing experience, preferably on a full CG feature film;
– 3+ years experience as Texturing Supervisor;
– Strong Knowledge of PHOTOSHOP, MAYA, MARI, UVLAYOUT, ARNOLD;
– Knowledge of ARNOLD, KATANA;
– Good knowledge of 3D sculptures and UV mapping tool;
– Be comfortable with a LINUX / UNIX /Windows environment;
– Ability to manage a team;
– Interest for R&D;
– Have an eye for detail, composition, colors, scales and forms;
– Thorough understanding of techniques required for the interpretation of design and materials;
– Familiar with matte digital projection techniques;
– Be able to train and guide a team;
– Knowledge of an asset manager as SHOTGUN is a plus;

Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident in Canada and be available to work in Montreal, Quebec.
