General description

The incumbent is responsible for conceiving, from the established concept, creating and designing the modeling, the textures, the shaders, the lighting and the rendering of the shots he is in charge of.

Requirements

Have at least three (3) to five (5) years of experience in 3D generalist production;
Have a very good knowledge of the following software: XSI or Maya and Photoshop;
Knowing the following software is an asset: ZBrush, Nuke, After Effects;
Hold a Master or College degree in CG Design;
Must have a good knowledge of English and French, both spoken and written;

Main Responsibilities

Conduct researches in accordance with the project;
Gather, know, manage and computationally organize references used for modeling;
Decide and establish the best approach for achieving the project;
Create the digital modeling according to the developed concept or according to the references obtained;
Make UVs on selected objects;
Create textures on objects;
Create lighting for scenes;
Prepare layers expected by the compositing team;
Start renders and check the quality of rendered pictures;
Identify, analyze, solve and document problems encountered;
Forecast and use all the equipment and tools required for the project;
Attend the daily meetings;
Perform other related duties assigned by management.

CG Supervisor

General description

The incumbent is responsible to understand, diffuse, represent and enforce the technical vision of the project throughout all of the 3D departments. He is therefore the client’s representative internally. In addition, he is responsible to broadcast information acquired to all department leads and to guide them in respecting the work plan provided. The incumbent must also provide the correct orientation and management to team leads while providing them with support as well as the necessary information and training.

Requirements

Must have at least five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in the film and visual effects industry as a department lead;
Must have a college or university diploma in the field of visual arts in computer generated imagery;
Must have a very good knowledge of the following software: XSI, Mental Ray, Nuke, Deadline, Photoshop and Filemaker;
Knowledge of compositing and rendering software is a definite asset;
Must have a very good knowledge of English and French, both spoken and written.

Principal responsibilities

Be aware of the entire project;
Listen and understand requests from the client;
Make a list of the tasks to be performed for said project;
Assist in planning the project’s development;
Analyze, with the coordination department, the allotted time and feasibility of tasks;
Define the production pipeline;
Transmit client requests to the 3D team;
Anticipate, analyze and find solutions to actual and potential technical problems;
Discuss the technical development of the project with both the direction and the client;
Transmit information to the artists concerning the technical development of the project;
Plan the optimal approach for the realization of sequences;
Plan and establish priorities and objectives for the entire project;
Determine, modify and maintain the technical methodology adopted for the realization of the project;
Prepare and broadcast guidelines and instructions to be followed;
Assign tasks daily to the 3D artists;
Supervise the work of all 3D departments;
Make sure that all technical requests from client are respected throughout the project;
Supervise the work of the 3D artists by pointing out rules and guidelines to be followed to improve quality, effectiveness and efficiency of the latter;
Review the schedule created by the project manager and make recommendations;
Understand and inform 3D artists of priorities and deadlines;
Follow the project’s production schedule;
Accomplish the project in the allocated time;
Supervise all 3D activities related to the project;
Inform the 3D artists about changes and additions requested by the management and the client;
Inform, verify, comment, review and approve the daily work submitted by the artists;
Provide individual feedback to each artist;
Act as the main technical resource for the team;
Put in place the pipeline and change it during the production, if needed by the project;
Meet and exchange with the VFX supervisor, client or management to present the images produced by the team;
Get approval from management and clients on the images shown;
Help to maintain a consistency, continuity and quality between scenes;
Approve all animation sequences present in the project;
Draft a post mortem of the project once completed;
Answer questions from team members;
Act as main interlocutor for exchanges between departments;
Be available to answer questions;
Participate, as needed, to bid for an upcoming project;
Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Lead Animator

Job Description

General description

The incumbent is responsible for directing and managing the animation team while providing coaching and necessary training. As animator, he is responsible for creating, designing and developing a variety of animation sequences. He must do character animation, creatures, vehicles or objects so as to make everything very stylized and personalized. He may have to do traditional animation or photo-real.

Requirements, prerequisites and assets. The candidate :

Must have a college degree in visual arts or in 3D animation;
Must have at least five (5) years experience as an animator artist;
Has a very good knowledge of the following software: XSI, 3DS, Max and Maya;
Has a very good knowledge of animation techniques in relation to movement, volume, emotions etc.;
Has a very good knowledge of English or French spoken and written;
Demonstrates a strong ability to manage a work team;
Must be able to train and mentor his team members;

Responsabilities of the lead animator

Coordinate all activities of the animation department;
Develop and monitor the department’s production schedule;
Provide guidance to the animation department;
Collaborate in the assignment of tasks of the animators;
Make sure his team has all the appropriate tool to complete their work;
Draft specific documents of the department;
Write and update information documents for other departments;
Train, supervise and review work of the team of animators;
Act as the main technical resource for the team of animators;
Respond to questions of members of the team;
Act as primary technical interlocutor for the exchange between departments;
Be available to answer to questions from his team and other teams;
Anticipate, analyze and find solutions to potential and actual technical problems;
Participate actively to the selection of new employees;
Analyze, with the coordination, the planning time allocated to the project and the feasibility;

Principal animator responsabilities

Be aware of the nature of the project before beginning it;
Search the best means of achievement to develop animations;
Search techniques and references in animation;
Make different trials to find the animation style desired;
Check and make tests on rigs obtained;
Exchange and decide with his supervisor on the final result to be obtained;
Assess and inform his superior of technical difficulties and anticipated needs for the implementation of animations;
Perform all activities requested by including the necessary details to ensure the realism of the animations;
Animate characters, creatures, vehicles and objects according to the information obtained;
Respect the coherence and consistency of the animation from one image to another;
Integrate its sequence throughout the animation work realized;
Express an idea or an image from storyboard through animation movements;
Organize, manage and update animation files created;
Organize and update databases of animation references, editing, tools and accessories created;
