Character TD/Rigger

Summary:

Naughty Dog is seeking a Character TD / Rigger to come join our team! This talented individual should be able to work with minimal input and feel comfortable working in a team environment. Our ideal candidate possesses strong technical skills in rigging, an artistic eye, and passion for video games.

Responsibilities:

Design, create, test, and maintain character rigs/setups
Work with modelers to create a model that meets technical needs
Collaborate with animators to design motion controls
Develop and maintain character motion and deformation systems
Develop new techniques and processes to solve character production challenges
Capable of writing pipeline tools to streamline the setup process
Work with production management to prioritize tasks
Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed

Requirements & Skills:

3+ years of production experience
In-depth knowledge of Maya
Strong understanding of both Figure and Facial Anatomy
Complex character/vehicle rigging experience in Maya (in film, broadcast, or game environments)
Programming experience with scripting languages such as Python and MEL
Experience setting up production pipelines, while being able to follow guidelines
The ability to take initiative and work independently
C++ experience

Bonus Skills:

Solid Linear Algebra
Experience writing Physics systems
Experience using Physics systems (NCloth, etc.)

Technical Artist

Summary:

Naughty Dog is seeking an experienced Technical Artist to join our studio. This strong communicator would work closely with Art and Engineering to develop assets, tools, and new standards and workflows – whatever it takes to push the beauty of our games to new levels!

“Technical Artist” is a very broad category, and every Technical Artist has a unique set of skills. You may consider yourself to be a generalist, of you may be laser-focused on one particular part of the pipeline. If you think you’ve got what it takes to help Naughty Dog raise the bar, we’d like to hear from you!

Responsibilities:

Create tools to improve the art team’s efficiency (this includes Maya scripts, but also standalone scripts and software)
Work with the engineering team to develop features, both for the game engine and for tools/asset pipelines
Help ensure feature interfaces are user-friendly
Develop visual features of the game, whether that’s writing shader code, pioneering new asset creation techniques, or creating technical prototypes and mockups
Help the team develop workflows and standards for efficient content generation
Support the content team in debugging issues with the game, tools, etc.
Help drive framerate and memory optimization of the game
Work within all the art departments (environment, characters, VFX, animation, etc.) to ensure all dependencies are met
Create art assets that require high technical skill or specialist knowledge
Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed, or if you can show us a better way to do things!

Requirements & Skills:

Intermediate programming experience with scripting languages (MEL/Python/etc.) and shading languages
Experience in C++ or related languages is a plus
Strong artistic background and content development skills (can be modeling, texturing, lighting, or any other area where you have experience, but a strong artistic eye is a necessity!)
Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
High-level familiarity with every aspect of game development, and how different disciplines collaborate
Good oral and written skills
3+ years of production experience *Maya Preferred*

Cinematic Lighting Artist

Responsibilities:

Develop character and environment lighting schemes to create visually compelling and awesome looking cinematics
Create compositing flows in Digital Fusion to deliver finished cut scenes
Work with modelers, animators, texture and FX artists to optimize the visual look of the cinematic
Works with level lighter to ensure integration with gameplay
Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed

Requirements & Skills:

Proven industry experience in Film or Games generating final picture
General competency in Autodesk Maya and knowledge of Global Illumination
Proficiency utilizing a node based compositing package
Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
Thorough understanding of direct/indirect light, luminance/exposure and color-theory
Some experience with generating light-maps, pre-lighting or baked lighting is desired
HDR Tone mapping experience desired
As a part of the Naughty Dog application process, candidates will be expected to provide a portfolio or demo reel of their work and may be asked to complete an art test.
