Junior Compositor for CG Studio

Department: Visual Effects

Position: Junior Compositor

Responsibilities and duties:

Report regularly to the Visual Effects Lead informing him/her of any concerns or new developments
Identify to the Visual Effects Lead problems that could potentially present with respect to timelines and delivery schedules
Respect and adapt to the Nerd Corps system of data storage and retrieval through the use of the in-house software
Make sure that all work done is accounted for and entered in the tracking system (SPARCX)
Acts as a resource to Animators for layout/lighting/background questions
Helps director watch for render errors/missing composite elements, such as gel layers, missing glows, etc
Communicate to Animators about elements that may be needed or used for their sequences
Watch animatics of his/her episode for errors & shots missing composites, stay current with the show and what stage of production it is at Balance the creative needs, technical resources and time available

Note: Compositor is not responsible for re-rendering animator’s layers or reanimating/fixing shots that come from animators

Composite shots for the show in a timely manner and try to get the most number of shots done in the time available
Make sure the schedule is being followed and that the director is getting compositing shots ready so there’s always work to be done. If director is informed of shortage of shots and there is still not enough work, inform the Visual Effects Lead so he/she can deal with it.
Follow the creative direction of the production as communicated by the Visual Effects Lead.
Work with the senior staff of the Visual Effects Team to learn as much as possible about the methods and software used when compositing

Qualifications and competencies:

Intermediate understanding of 3D texturing, Modeling and Lighting
Intermediate understanding of Compositing Methods
Intermediate knowledge of SoftImage XSI; in particular XSI Render Tree.
Creative with timing and Color.
Work well within the team.
Able to take directions and work independently
Able to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
Able to multi-task and prioritize
Good at improvising and problem solving
Thrive in a high pressure, deadline oriented environment
Enjoy working in team atmosphere
Degree/diploma in fine arts or animation or equivalent experience an asset

Modeller for CG Animation Studio

Department: Production

About the position:

The Modeller has exceptional skills and experience in Modeling, texturing and weighting in XSI. They excel at creating high calibre work while at the same time meeting production deadlines. They take direction well and are good communicators.

Responsibilities and duties:

Create and texture geometry consistent with production designs of sets, props, and characters.
Apply basic rigs and weight models.
Can models for production use.
Render images of the models you create for approval/circulation.
Complete all work assigned within the scheduled timeframe and in an efficient manner.
Remain current in modeling and production techniques.
Stay up-to-date on production related software.
Carry out duties in a professional and positive manner.

Qualifications and competencies:

Experience in television or game production as a Modeller.
Degree/Diploma in fine arts or 3D Modeling.
Proficient in modeling, texturing, and weighting in XSI.
Basic understanding of facial shape animation.
Working knowledge of Photoshop or other high-end 2D painting programs.
Working knowledge of the Windows operating system.
Good understanding of the animation process.
Works well in a team environment.
Thrives in a high pressure, deadline oriented environment.
Able to follow direction.
Able to take criticism professionally.
Has a good sense of aesthetics.

VFX Artist

Department: VFX

About the position:

The VFX Artist is an energetic and enthusiastic individual with strong VFX skills and experience in visual effects for broadcast television or feature film production. The VFX Artist excels at creating high calibre dynamic and riveting visual effects while at the same time meeting production deadlines.

They follow the creative direction of the production from an FX standpoint and report regularly to the Visual Effects Supervisor informing them of any concerns or new developments.

Responsibilities and duties:

Construct creative solutions for recurring visual effects in TV production.
Be aware of what is happening on the team at all times and identify problems to the Lead.
Train and mentor new Effects Animators and compositors who are placed on the crew and explain production methods.
Create complex effects sequences as assigned by the Lead/Director.
Identify to the Visual Effects Lead problems that could potentially affect timelines and delivery schedules.
Respect and adapt to the Nerd Corps system of data storage and retrieval through the use of the in-house software.
Balance the creative needs and technical resources available.
Ensure that all production deadlines are met while providing work at a quality level in keeping with production requirements.
Carry out duties in a professional and positive manner.
Create and deliver FX for the series in a timely manner.
Train the junior staff and make sure they are working using the proper methods.
Create and deliver show specific FX in a timely manner.

Qualifications and competencies:

Able to multi-task and prioritize.
Intermediate understanding of 3D texturing, modeling and lighting.
Advanced understanding of compositing.
Advanced knowledge of XSI.
Advanced knowledge of particle systems.
Creative with timing and color.
Work well in a team atmosphere.
Able to take directions and work independently.
Very good at improvising and problem solving.
Good on being able to predict upcoming problems with production and communicating those problems/concerns to the Visual Effects Lead.

Character Animator

Department: Animation

About the Position:

The Character Animator is an energetic and enthusiastic individual with strong character animation skills and experience in 3D animation for broadcast television or feature film production. The Character Animator excels at creating high calibre dramatic and action oriented character animation while at the same time meeting production deadlines.

Responsibilities and duties:

To break the conventional animation limitations of 3D animated television series and create the highest possible quality of animation in this medium.
Demonstrates a strong understanding of motion, weight, emotion, acting and timing.
Demonstrates the ability to take direction well and excel in a team environment.
Works under the direction of the Animation Supervisor and Director.

Qualifications and experience:

Graduated from a well recognized animation program.
Thrives in a high pressure, deadline oriented environment.
Solid knowledge of Softimage XSI a strong asset.
1+ years experience preferably with a background in episodic TV or feature animation.
Thorough understanding of all aspects of 3D character animation.
A strong understanding of character acting principles.
