About the position

As an animator you are responsible for creating animated sequences of characters, objects and cameras under the creative direction of the animation director and supervisor. You excel at creating high-calibre, dramatic and action-oriented character animation while at the same time meeting production deadlines. You are able to be flexible and adapt to various animation styles.

Responsibilities

To break the conventional animation limitations of 3D animated television series and create the highest possible quality of animation in this medium
Demonstrate a strong understanding of motion, weight, emotion, acting and timing
Demonstrate the ability to take direction well and excel in a team environment
Work under the direction of the animation supervisor and animation director

Qualifications

Degree/diploma in 3D animation
Thrives in a high pressure, deadline oriented environment
Solid knowledge of Softimage XSI an asset

Layout Artist

About the position

As the layout artist you create original camera set-up and stage every scene through 2D drawing while meeting production deadlines. You are integral to the design team and enthusiastic about developing your skills.

Responsibilities

Create original camera set-up and stage every scene through drawing
Study the script to determine appropriate staging for each show
Meet with the environment designer and supervising director to discuss staging requirements
Meet with the storyboard directors to finalize drawings
Finalize and clean up certain drawings for matte painting use
Complete work assigned within the scheduled timeframe
Work directly with environment designer and storyboard directors to develop the layout and revise layouts on the fly as required
Demonstrate strong visual interpretation skills and generate innovative and creative ideas that are production-friendly
Accept feedback on designs and execute changes quickly
Participate in production-related meetings, offering thoughts and ideas
Stay up to date with shows by watching animatics
Maintain the show style with environments and keep designs working within the story specifications
Communicate effective and production-friendly solutions when the requests of the client or other department heads are not possible within production timelines
Keep work orders current and accurate in the Design and Modeling Approval System (DMAS) and notify production of any tasks that may be missing or improperly specified

Qualifications

2+ years in design
BA/BFA Degree in Fine Arts or Commercial Arts field an asset, but not required
Must have strong live action or animation visual storytelling ability
Must have strong skill in composition and editing
Must have strong skill in camera operation, field size and camera movement
Must have strong ability to break down a script into scene staging through drawing
Must have strong 2D design experience and be able to design a wide variety of landscapes, including architectural, organic/vegetation, and geological formations

Modeller – XSI

As a modeller you have exceptional skills and experience in modeling, UV mapping, texturing and weighting in XSI. You create characters, props and set models that accurately represent the artistic goals and story concepts of the production. You excel at creating complex and organic models while at the same time meeting production deadlines. You take direction well, require minimum supervision and are a good communicator.

Responsibilities

Create and texture geometry consistent with production designs of characters, sets, props and vehicles
Apply basic rigs and weight models
Can models for production use
Render images of the models you create for approval and circulation
Complete all work assigned within the scheduled timeframe and in an efficient manner
Collaborate with animation team to ensure models are structured to achieve intended performance requirements
Interpret and implement notes and feedback from directors and supervisors in a timely and qualitatively acceptable way
Remain current in modelling and production techniques

We’re looking for a wildly imaginative character designer for Nerd Corps Entertainment’s latest original comedy series. It’s set in a crazy insane world with dimensions and boundaries that no artist has ever dared to explore! Driven by super bold and hilarious characters, the stories go to ridiculous places that you only wish you could be a part of. Well, you can! You could be the one designing this whole hot, delicious mess.

Responsibilities

Create original thumbnails, concepts, maps and designs for human characters, facial expressions, creatures, vehicles and all the machines that appear in the show (including turnarounds and other detailed notes)

Finalize the line art with tone indication to assist with the coloring
Complete work assigned within the scheduled timeframe

Compositor

About the position

As a compositor you seamlessly integrate all the layers or elements of a shot. You work closely with the VFX supervisor to composite the numerous elements that complete CG shots. You excel at creating high-calibre, dynamic and riveting comps, while at the same time meeting production deadlines. You must be able to make artistic judgments and practical decisions, and be able to effectively communicate with the animation director, team supervisor and art director.

Responsibilities

Report regularly to the VFX lead informing him/her of any concerns or new developments
Identify to the VFX lead problems that could potentially present with respect to timelines and delivery schedules
Respect and adapt to the Nerd Corps system of data storage and retrieval through the use of the in-house software
Make sure that all work done is accounted for and entered in the tracking system (SPARCX)
Act as a resource to animators for layout/lighting/background questions
Help director watch for render errors/missing composite elements, such as gel layers, missing glows, etc.
Communicate to animators about elements that may be needed or used for their sequences
Watch animatics of your episode for errors and shots missing composites; stay current with the show and what stage of production it is at
Balance your creative needs, technical resources and time available
Composite shots for the show in a timely manner and try to get the most number of shots done in the time available while maintaining quality
Ensure the schedule is being followed and take a proactive approach with the director and VFX lead to ensure compositing shots are always in progress
Follow the creative direction of the production as communicated by the VFX lead
Work with the senior staff of the VFX team to learn as much as possible about the methods and software used when compositing

Qualifications

Intermediate understanding of 3D texturing, modelling and lighting
Solid understanding of compositing methods
Solid knowledge of SoftImage XSI, in particular XSI Render Tree
Creative with timing and exceptional eye for colour

Production Manager

About the position

As the show production manager you oversee all aspects of the production process including direct management of your crew. You work with the series director and art director to facilitate creative needs of the project while ensuring the show schedule stays on time and on budget. You report to the director of production resources on show status and crew performance.

Responsibilities

Ensure each episode is advancing as per pre-established timelines and be attuned to the inner workings of each of the departments
Review all script and animatic notes and make sure that the team is responding on time and balancing priorities
Monitor the flow of scripts and ensure that all scripts are clear of any legal issues and meet broadcast standards and practices
Work with production personnel and oversee that all components of the script are production viable
Work with coordinators and ensure that every asset is accounted for and being completed on time for production milestones
Monitor freelance progress in timely delivery of assets
Organize and attend casting sessions
Work with client and producer on the approval of the cast
Attend voice records and oversee the organization
Help establish and support career paths and aspirations of the crew
Directly oversee the daily activities/tasks of production coordinators
Monitor employee attendance and requests for vacation
Partake in employee performance and salary reviews
Terminate contracts, if necessary
Organize the show deliverables and ensure that every client receives everything required as per the production services agreement
Set up and supervise sound and music spotting sessions
Provide and obtain approval for all screen credits for each episode
Review quality control reports for broadcast

Qualifications

4+ years experience in production management or equivalent (experience in 3D animation an asset)
