Senior Graphic Designer

Description

About the Position

Nerd Corps has just joined the DHX Media family, and we’re looking for one great senior graphic designer to join our team and support our growing roster of original kids’ properties! Come work on the marketing materials for some of the best, coolest, most fun kids’ shows on TV today, from comedies to action-adventures to preschool. As the marketing team’s senior graphic designer, you will help guide the way each property is presented to kids, consumers and the industry by creating original concepts for the main marketing image, posters, and other collateral. Your work will be seen by kids all over the world, and it will mean the world to many of them!

Responsibilities

Work with the director of marketing and multiple teams both internally and externally to develop and produce promotional material for multiple kids’ properties and studio marketing needs, including ads, printed collateral, swag, websites, promotional artwork and mobile apps
Responsible for developing logos, design elements, guidelines, key artwork and contributing to campaign creative
Develop promotional artwork and assets for outside partners to use in various media including print, web and mobile
Provide quality control on artwork assets received from production teams
Provide creative leadership, guidance and mentorship to our junior graphic designer to produce the highest quality work that exceeds expectations
Accept feedback on designs and execute on changes quickly
Complete work assigned within the scheduled timeframe
Maintain show style and established brand guidelines in designs, and execute work according to creative briefs

Qualifications

4+ years in graphic design
Diploma or degree in Graphic Design, Commercial Arts or related
Must have 2D design and print production experience
Proficiency in Mac environment
Proficiency in Adobe CS4, including Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator
Demonstrated ability to develop targeted materials for multiple audiences (girls, boys, gender-neutral, and ages preschool to tweens/early teens
Must possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and multi-tasking skills
Excellent creative problem-solving skills and strategic thinking skills
Self-management and reviewing one’s own schedule is required, as is notifying department head of any tasks that may be missing or improperly specified
Thrive in a high pressure, deadline oriented environment
Enjoy working in team atmosphere and have a proactive approach to work
Experience in children’s film, television or interactive industry an asset but not required

Senior Pipeline Technical Director

Description

Department: Pipeline
Location: Vancouver

About the Position

It’s a very exciting time to join the Nerd Corps team! We’re moving our pipeline to Maya so this is a great opportunity to be involved with the creation and development of the next generation of our productions! As a senior pipeline TD you will help research, develop and guide the way our animation pipeline works. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced pipeline TD to step up and help lead a brand new animation pipeline.

Responsibilities

Develop pipeline tools and processes to meet production needs
Ensure tools and processes meet the global pipeline direction
Work with the pipeline supervisor to design and prioritize production needs
Research new techniques to meet those needs
Design and develop new tools to fit and improve our pipeline
Support production to ensure deadlines are met
Maintain, debug and update existing tools when needed
Test and debug tools and process to ensure stability and usability
Work with software engineers and IT team to debug and test hardware and software
Mentor other TDs
Educate artists on how to work with the pipeline
Create and update documentation explaining our processes and tools

Qualifications

5+ years of experience in animation or visual effects for film or television
3+ years of experience developing for Maya, Nuke or Houdini is required
Strong experience in Python is required
Excellent communication, troubleshooting and debugging skills
Experience with render farms is a plus
Experience in designing and building database systems is a plus
Experience in Django, Flask or web development is a plus
Working knowledge of C/C++ a plus

Modelling Supervisor – Maya

Description

Department: Modelling
Location: Vancouver

About the Position

The modelling supervisor will be responsible for establishing workflows, managing the modelling team and training artists. In addition, you will collaborate with other supervisors and directors to ensure that modelling assets are passed across departments with efficiency while meeting the creative and scheduling requirements of the productions.

Responsibilities

Lead modelling department, and establish best practice workflows and guidelines for the team
Establish efficient modelling techniques, topology, naming and other conventions to optimize asset creation process
Prioritize modelling tasks and make sure the production schedule is met
Collaborate with pipeline team, designers, rigging and surfacing artists to achieve both creative and technical goals within scheduled time frames
Work closely with rigging team to establish the best topology and conventions for both modelling and rigging needs
Work closely with pipeline supervisor to establish and develop modelling tools and process before and during production
Mentor and assist other modellers in both technical and creative capacities
Create and update documentation for those workflows and guidelines
Anticipate, communicate, and troubleshoot any creative or technical issues with assistance from key stakeholders
Be a positive and creative force on the team

HR/Recruiting

Be part of the recruiting process by assisting the HR department with the development of job descriptions, sourcing of candidates as well as the candidate selection process
Crew Management
Train modelling team on an ongoing basis both technically and creatively
Communicate expectations to modelling team while balancing creative desires with the requirements of production
Oversee the daily activities of the modelling team
Partner with management to guide artists’ overall professional development by providing performance feedback, mentoring, resolving performance issues and maintaining positive morale among the team
Foster and enable communication and collaboration across departments
Set goals for others that can be achieved using available resources and use previous measurable performance to establish goals within projected timeframe
Determine and understand the needs, interests, strengths and weaknesses of the modelling team and use this information to contribute to the growth and development of the modelling team
Provide constructive criticism, wisdom, guidance, and feedback that will help others further their career development

Qualifications

4+ years of experience in animation for film or television
High proficiency in Maya is a must
Experience with Zbrush, Modo or similar sculpting programs
Experience in creation of all asset types including characters, environments, vehicles and props
Excellent understanding of the fundamentals of organic and hard body modelling
Excellent understanding of topology, for both organic and non-organic models
Experience with character blend shape creation
Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills
Excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills
Able to identify strengths and weakness of modelling team
Able to remain flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs of production
Able to set priorities for yourself and others, as well as manage the progress of work
Proactive work ethic, capable problem solver with the ability to implement solutions

Junior Animators

Description

About the Position

As a junior animator you create high-calibre, dramatic and action-oriented character animation while at the same time meeting production deadlines. You have a good understanding of the principles of animation, movement and timing skills. You are integral to the animation team and are enthusiastic at developing your skills. You are able to take direction and address notes willingly in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

Work from storyboard/animatic to create animation sequences as assigned by director
Strong understanding of the principles of animation, lip-sync, and camera composition
Complete assigned animation within scheduled timeframe
Block movements in rough animation, refine and polish to completion in final animation
Address required revisions and modify shots as requested
Based on the production schedule and resources available, ensure and maintain the quality, style and continuity of your animation
Anticipate, communicate, and troubleshoot any creative or technical issues with assistance from key stakeholders
Actively participate in production-related meetings by offering thoughts and ideas
Assist with and complete production-related assignments
Keep current on animation techniques and technology
Ensure the lead animator/director’s instructions are carried through Recommend any team training needs to lead animator
Carry out duties in a professional and positive manner
Be a positive and creative force on the team

Qualifications

1 year of experience in animation or film industry
Degree/diploma in fine arts or animation or equivalent experience an asset
Proficient in 3D animation packages

Responsibilities

• Plan and program for mobile games
• Technical and creative game design for mobile games
• Develop production and live operations pipelines

• Develop, launch, and support post-launch operations on mobile games

Qualifications

• Post-secondary certification from a recognized program, or equivalent experience in fields related to game programming
• Minimum 1 year experience
• Proficient in one or more high-level programming languages common for mobile games, such as C#, Java, or Objective-C
• Well-versed in game design principles
• Must be able to write clean, maintainable code
• Good understanding of the mobile games marketplace and what it takes to succeed
• Effective communicator with peers and managers

Junior Software Developer

As the junior software developer, you are an integral member of Nerd Corps’ small, fast-paced software development team who provide creative web-based solutions to enhance our 3D animation production pipeline. Working closely with the Scrum Master, you will be involved in designing, developing, documenting and maintaining high-quality, complex, reliable applications using a web interface.
You are a quick learner who strives to meet our production needs in an efficient and effective manner. This entry-level position requires you to be proactive, possess a broad knowledge of modern web technologies and have a passion for creating scalable and innovative web-based applications for the television/3D animation industry.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain in-house client/server web-based tracking systems and various production pipeline tools
Assist the software team to oversee issues with the render farm
Liaise with production staff to implement new tools and processes to aid their needs
Invent, analyze, optimize algorithms or data structures to improve our current systems
Help to define the user model and user interface for new and existing production tools
Work closely with the team to create balanced solutions to any issues in an efficient and effective manner
Participate in software meetings and adjust/refine work as indicated by the director of software development
Ensure the software team is productive by answering questions that arise
Anticipate, communicate, and troubleshoot any creative or technical issues with assistance from key stakeholders
Actively participate in software-related meetings offering thoughts and ideas and identify obstacles to the director of software development
Keep current on software development techniques and technology
Recommend any team training needs to the director of software development

Qualifications

B.Sc. in computing science or equivalent experience
Solid foundation with software development methodologies, client/server paradigm and object-oriented paradigms
Good working knowledge of web-based technologies including Python, PHP, JavaScript, JQuery, AJAX/JSON and HTML/CSS
Strong SQL skills and knowledge of relational database design. Experience with MySQL is preferred
Experience with MVC development framework such as Django
Must be able to write clean and maintainable code
Quick learner with excellent organizational skills and strong communication skills
Ability to take direction well and execute on a project with limited supervision
Ability to communicate in a professional and positive manner
Ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
