Senior Editor for CG Animation Studio

Department: Post

About the Position:

The Senior Editor works full-time, Monday through Friday, under the supervision of Nerd Corps Post Production Supervisor. They are experts with using Avid.

Responsibilities and duties:

Cut together storyboard animatics, including selected takes from voice record
Work with Series Director in team collaborative atmosphere and able to take direction
Address any changes and provide solutions that need to be made during the storyboard animatic phase
Assists Directors with day-to-day production editing
Assisting in on-line activities, such as quality control, dubs, file management, etc
Create outputs of shows, including all stages (from animatics to final versioning of shows)
Maintain the walla library
Maintain the re-use library
Manages editorial project/media files efficiently
Cut together sequences, when necessary
Carry out duties in a professional and positive manner

Qualifications and experience:

Solid understanding of post procedures, production and workflow
3 years minimum professional experience in similar environment
Solid understanding of Avid editing techniques
Knowledge of additional editing applications an asset
Intermediate skills in off-line editing and storytelling
Strong understanding of the 3D animation pipeline
Able to multi-task and prioritize tasks effectively
Strong communication skills, able to communicate thoughts and ideas
Work well in a team oriented atmosphere and able to follow direction from others

VFX Artist for CG Animation Studio

Department: VFX

About the position:

The Senior VFX Artist is an energetic and enthusiastic individual with excellent VFX skills and experience in visual effects for broadcast television or feature film production. The Senior VFX Artist is an expert at creating high calibre dynamic and riveting visual effects while at the same time meeting production deadlines.
They follow the creative direction of the production from an FX standpoint and report regularly to the Visual Effects Supervisor informing them of any concerns or new developments.

Identify to the Visual Effects Lead problems that could potentially affect timelines and delivery schedules
Respect and adapt to the Nerd Corps system of data storage and retrieval through the use of the in-house software
Balance the creative needs and technical resources available
Ensure that all production deadlines are met while providing work at a quality level in keeping with production requirements.
Carry out duties in a professional and positive manner
Create and deliver FX for the series in a timely manner
Train the junior staff and make sure they are working using the proper methods
Create and deliver show specific FX in a timely manner

Qualifications and competencies:

Has 3+ years experience preferably with a background in episodic TV or feature animation.
Able to multi-task and prioritize
A strong understanding of 3D texturing, modeling and lighting
Advanced understanding of compositing.

Compositor

Department: VFX

About the position:

The Compositor is an energetic and enthusiastic individual with strong compositing skills and experience in compositing for broadcast television or feature film production. The Compositor excels at creating high calibre dynamic and riveting Comps while at the same time meeting production deadlines.

Responsibilities and duties:

Report regularly to the Visual Effects Lead informing him/her of any concerns or new developments
Identify to the Visual Effects Lead problems that could potentially present with respect to timelines and delivery schedules
Respect and adapt to the Nerd Corps system of data storage and retrieval through the use of the in-house software
Make sure that all work done is accounted for and entered in the tracking system (SPARCX)
Acts as a resource to Animators for layout/lighting/background questions
Helps director watch for render errors/missing composite elements, such as gel layers, missing glows, etc
Communicate to Animators about elements that may be needed or used for their sequences
Watch animatics of his/her episode for errors & shots missing composites, stay current with the show and what stage of production it is at
Balance the creative needs, technical resources and time available
Composite shots for the show in a timely manner and try to get the most number of shots done in the time available
Make sure the schedule is being followed and that the director is getting compositing shots ready so there’s always work to be done. If director is informed of shortage of shots and there is still not enough work, inform the Visual Effects Lead so he/she can deal with it.
Follow the creative direction of the production as communicated by the Visual Effects Lead.
Work with the senior staff of the visual effects team to learn as much as possible about the methods and software used when compositing

Qualifications and competencies:

Intermediate understanding of 3D texturing, Modeling and Lighting
Solid understanding of compositing methods
Solid knowledge of SoftImage XSI; in particular XSI Render Tree
Creative with timing and exceptional eyes on color
Work well within the team
Able to take directions and work independently
Able to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas

Modeller for CG Animation Studio

About the position:

The Modeller has exceptional skills and experience in Modeling, texturing and weighting in XSI. They excel at creating high calibre work while at the same time meeting production deadlines. They take direction well and are good communicators.

Responsibilities and duties:

Create and texture geometry consistent with production designs of sets, props, and characters.
Apply basic rigs and weight models.
Can models for production use.
Render images of the models you create for approval/circulation.
Complete all work assigned within the scheduled timeframe and in an efficient manner.
Remain current in modeling and production techniques.
Stay up-to-date on production related software.
Carry out duties in a professional and positive manner.

Qualifications and competencies:

Experience in television or game production as a Modeller.
Degree/Diploma in fine arts or 3D Modeling.
Proficient in modeling, texturing, and weighting in XSI.

Storyboard Supervisor for CG Animation Studio

Department: Storyboard Direction

About the position:

The Storyboard Supervisor has the overall responsibility to actualize the vision of the project/show. They interpret the script into images that best convey the story and characters presented by the writer while maintaining a quality consistent with the respective series/production plan.

They manage his/her directing and storyboarding team effectively and efficiently in order to complete the production on time.

Responsibilities and duties:

Ensure that the production for which he/she is responsible is completed on time.
Ensure the production meets the standard of quality set by the Producer.
Consult with Series Director as to the technical feasibility of elements in the script and suggest creative solutions that will maintain the vision of the series.
Study scripts to determine artistic interpretation and design boards in conjunction with the Series Director.
Annotate scripts thoroughly and direct the Storyboarding team throughout the boarding of an episode; communicate ideas effectively and recommend solutions to help interpret the script visually.
Approve the final storyboard panels and recommend revisions as needed.
Overall, be aware of the show/series continuity and ensure each show.
Be aware of the progress of each show and always be looking for production friendly solutions.

Qualifications and competencies:

3+ years of experience in industry.
Excellent understanding of animation timing and posing.
Familiarity with 3D animation and the strengths and weaknesses of CGI animation.
Experience in Pre-School Animation an asset.

The Storyboard Director interprets the script into images that will best convey the story and characters presented by the writer while maintaining a quality consistent with the series/production. He or she plans and coordinates all the images that make up the show, from thumbnails to final boards.

Responsibilities and duties:

Ensure that the production for which he/she is responsible is completed on time
Ensure the production meets the standard of quality set by the Producer
Consult with Supervising Director as to the technical feasibility of elements in the script and suggest creative solutions that will maintain the vision of the series
