About the position

As the water FX artist you will be making some serious waves at Nerd Corps! Using your previous water and Houdini experience, you will develop water-based FX that are viable within production and help instruct other FX artists on how to do water FX.

Responsibilities

Develop water-based FX that are viable within TV production
Document procedures, protocols and techniques
Develop FX for production and help instruct other FX artists on how to do water FX
Work with VFX supervisor and leads to determine the needs of the project
Be aware of what is happening on the team at all times and identify potential setbacks to the VFX lead
Identify obstacles to the VFX lead that could potentially affect timelines and delivery schedules
Respect and adapt to the Nerd Corps system of data storage and retrieval through the use of in-house software
Find a balance between creative needs and technical resources
Ensure that all production deadlines are met while providing work at a level of quality that meets production requirements
Carry out duties in a professional and positive manner

Qualifications

3+ years experience
Degree/diploma in fine arts or animation, or equivalent experience an asset
Advanced knowledge of Houdini and water-based FX
Intermediate understanding of 3D texturing, modelling and lighting
Creative with timing and colour
Able to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently
Able to work alone and collaboratively, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure
Encourages feedback and new initiatives
Able to take direction, collaborate, and be a team player
Able to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
Skilled at improvising and problem solving
Thrive in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment

FX Artist

About the position

As a FX artist you create high-calibre dynamic and riveting visual effects while at the same time meeting production deadlines.You follow the creative direction of the production from an effects standpoint and report regularly to the VFX supervisor informing them of any concerns or new developments.

Responsibilities

Construct creative solutions for recurring visual effects in TV production
Be aware of what is happening on the team at all times and identify problems to the VFX lead
Train and mentor new effects animators and compositors who are placed on the crew and explain production methods
Create complex effects sequences as assigned by the lead/director
Identify to the VFX lead problems that could potentially affect timelines and delivery schedules
Respect and adapt to the Nerd Corps system of data storage and retrieval through the use of the in-house software
Find a balance between your creative needs and technical resources available
Ensure that all production deadlines are met while providing work at a quality level in keeping with production requirements.
Carry out duties in a professional and positive manner
Create and deliver effects for the series in a timely manner
Train the junior staff and make sure they are using the proper methods
Create and deliver show specific effects in a timely manner

Qualifications

Degree/diploma in fine arts or animation or equivalent experience an asset
Able to multitask and prioritize
Intermediate understanding of 3D texturing, modeling and lighting
Advanced understanding of compositing.
Advanced knowledge of XSI
Advanced knowledge of particle systems
Creative with timing and colour
Work well in a team atmosphere
Able to take directions and work independently
Very good at improvising and problem solving
Good at being able to predict upcoming problems with production and communicating those concerns to the VFX lead
Good communication skills
Thrive in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment
Experience as an effects animator or equivalent

Pipeline Technical Director

About the position

As the pipeline technical director you help maintain, research, develop and guide the way our animation pipeline works. This is an ideal opportunity for a savvy developer with good knowledge of the animation pipeline.

Responsibilities

Work with the pipeline supervisor to understand production needs
Research new techniques to meet those needs
Design and develop new tools to fit and improve our pipeline
Maintain, debug and update existing tools
Support artists during production
Educate artists on how to work with the pipeline
Create and update documentation explaining the different processes and tools

Qualifications

2-3+ years of experience in the animation or film industry
Working knowledge of Maya and Nuke is required
Experience with coding in Linux and Windows environment is required
Experience scripting with Python is required
Solid understanding of the animation production process, including modeling, texturing, animation, rendering, compositing and FX creation
Good working knowledge of databases such as MySQL
Able to write clean and maintainable code
Good communication skills, organization and team awareness
Excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills
Working knowledge of C/C++ or other object-oriented programming language is a plus
Knowledge of Subversion, CVS, Git or other revision control system
Experience working with the render farm is a plus
Degree in computer science, mathematics, physics or related discipline is an asset
