Look Development/Lead Lighting TD

Job Description
Position Overview:

The Look Development and Lead Lighting TD works as a part of the team that helps create the look of picture as per direction from the Art and Design Department and the Lighting Supervisor. They need to use technical skill and aesthetic judgment in order to create images that are of high production quality on a consistent basis. As the Look Development stage of production transitions to shot production the Look Development and Lead Lighting TD will serve as a guide for other Lighting Artists and give technical assistance with troubleshooting. When their TD skills are not required they can participate in shot lighting production.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Work with the Lighting Supervisor to create final looks for 3D characters and environments to be used in production.
Work with the Lighting Supervisor and Pipeline TD to build tools to help automate developed lighting setups.
Participate as a team member in determining solutions for technical problems during shot production.

Skills &Requirements:

Demonstrate an excellent understanding of light, colour, contrast, shading, and lighting design.
Demonstrate an ability to create lighting designs in various cinematic styles.
Experience with Maya.
Experience lighting and rendering with Renderman.
Experience in development and maintenance of lighting techniques, tools and pipelines.

General Summary

A CG Modeler creates characters, props and set models that support the artistic goals and story concepts of the production.

Duties & Responsibilities

Create and maintain 3D models for use in production.
Work with Modeling Supervisor and Art Director to realize the aesthetic vision of the production.
Ensure all deliverables meet the needs of all receiving departments.
Meet deadlines as established by Production Management.

Skills & Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Commercial Arts, Engineering, Computer Science, Animation or other relevant area of study and/or equivalent job experience.
1+ years of feature film or relevant industry experience (cg and/or Visual Effects).
Demonstrated ability using Maya for the creation of both hard surface and organic models.
An understanding and experience in the creation and use of geometry assets in a production setting.
Knowledge of polygonal and subdivision surface types.

Position Overview:

The Matte Painter/Concept Artist works in collaboration with the Art Director and is responsible for creating and conceptualizing complex backgrounds, landscapes, environments, and illustrations that guide the Directors vision for the feature. The ideal candidate has an exceptional understanding of colour, light, and composition as well as an excellent eye for aesthetics with the ability to produce photorealistic and stylized images.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Provides foreground, mid-ground, and background paintings
Works closely with the Art Director, Art, Modeling, and Layout Departments to develop the look of a shot or sequence
Create stylized illustrations of characters, objects, vehicles, and environmental pieces in a variety of settings
Create detailed concept pieces to develop the look of the film and to communicate story beats
Communicates with the Lighting and Compositing Departments to ensure shots are delivered according to their requirements
Creates shot components by combining photographic elements with 3D models or assets
Responsible for designing and conceptualizing architecture, lighting, and graphics that convey the Directors overall vision of the project
Works with the Production team to help establish schedules and technical needs
Model, UV, and texture various assets for environment shots
Troubleshoots any issues with background components that may arise

2+ years experience on a feature film as a concept artist/matte painter
BA of Fine Art , Classical Animation, or equivalent required

Position Overview:

The CG Supervisor is a key leader, overseeing the project through the production pipeline. The ideal candidate is a strong leader, excellent communicator, and CG Generalist with a good eye for aesthetic. The CG Supervisor is responsible for determining the technical approach and requirements needed to achieve the desired look for our feature film as well as developing the pipeline and identifying processes and procedures that improve the workflow.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Partnering with the Directors, Art Director/Production Designer, Producer, and Department Supervisors, the CG Supervisor is responsible for helping develop the CG pipeline as well as proprietary tools and oversees the project through the pipeline.
Aids in all technical aspects of animation production including rigging, animation, lighting, and FX.
Assists with portraying the Directors’ vision to the team through building consensus between Technology, Artists, and Production Management.
Works with the Production Management Team to maintain pipeline efficiency in order to assist the progress of the artists’ and TDs’ needs and enable them to achieve their quotas.
Aids the Production, Technical and Software departments to implement hardware and software workflow solutions and determines resource requirements.
Helps to create and implement support and training to improve skill sets within departments.
Offers support and guidance to the Technical Team Leads.
Assess and recommend appropriate external shaders/plugins/scripts.
Attends daily Production and department meetings.
Keep up on current technology trends and tools both hardware and software.

Skills & Requirements:

Assists the Pipeline Supervisor with all aspects of technical components
Troubleshoot solutions with Department Supervisors
Provides leadership and offers effective methods for pipeline development
Aids in the development of applications and creative pipeline tools and techniques to improve productivity
Provides weekly updates on Pipeline development status, and notifies of any upcoming production risks
Responsible for asset management through Shotgun
Evaluates and recommends proprietary software
Helps determine resource and budget requirements for software workflow solutions

Skills & Requirements:

Degree in Computing Science, Mathematics, Physics or equivalent experience required

Rendering Supervisor

The Rendering Supervisor is responsible for working with production to assess render resource needs and supervise a team of render wranglers. He or she is also responsible for ensuring that all render jobs run through the render farm correctly and dictates the guidelines for the Rendering team.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Work with the CG Supervisor and all the post departments to assess the render resources required for the production.
Create weekly render resource usage reports
Supervise a team of multiple render wranglers.
Create and maintain the rendering pipeline documentation in collaboration with the CG Supervisor
Responsible for watching job queues, re-prioritizing jobs and checking frames based on the production priorities to ensure that the render jobs run smoothly through the render farm.
Work with IT department to keep all render resources available and running in good order.
Maintain regular observation of the render farm functionality and optimization.
Educate and support other departments with their rendering needs.
Inform and help execute shot optimizations.
Report to the Pipeline and CG Supervisors with any render farm issues.

Required Skills & Experience:

Completed post-secondary education in CG Animation, Computer Science, or other relevant area of study, with a high degree of computer literacy
Knowledge of PipelineFx Qube or Tractor.
Ability to lead and train members of a team.
Familiar with Digital content creations software (Maya, Nuke).

Required Skills & Experience:

3+ years feature film production experience with Maya particle systems.
Expert knowledge of other effects software, such as RealFlow.
Working knowledge and understanding of 3D lighting and compositing – particularly NUKE.
Must have strong communication skills and the ability to work within a team in our fast paced production environment.
