Animator

Obsidian Entertainment is looking for talented, self motivated Animator to join us in creating content for a highly stylized MMORPG.

The ideal candidate has experience animating both human and non-humanoid characters. A solid grasp of the principles of body movement, anticipation, follow through, and all other facets of 3D animation is essential. The ideal candidate must be creative and have the ability to understand priorities, work well within a fast-paced production environment, and be able to work designers, FX artist and other developers to create high quality player character animations.

Requirements

3+ years experience in Feature Film and/or Game production using Maya
Exceptional skill in animating characters and creatures, a passion for games and a great team player
Experience working directly with designers and FX artists in developing a unique and cohesive animations
A thorough understanding of animation pipelines and the processes involved from the conceptual phase to implementation
Excellent communication and organizational skills

Responsibilities

Create high quality player character combat animations
Work closely with character artists, designers, FX artist, and other developers to ensure that visual targets are met or exceeded
Actively participate in technical and aesthetic problem solving discussions

Visual FX Artist

Obsidian Entertainment is looking for a talented self-motivated VFX Artist to join us in creating a broad range of 3D effects and animations for a highly stylized MMORPG.

This artist will be responsible for creating a wide range of character class ability FX. A solid grasp of the principles of animation, dynamics, follow-through, and lighting are essential. The FX artist must have skill in creating textures and geometry needed for FX. The FX artist should be well-versed in FX related tools — Photoshop, After Effects, Fume, etc.

Responsibilities

Create a wide range of 3D effects collaborating with animators and designers to meet class design and visual goals.
Work closely with Art Director and Game Designers to ensure the visual target is met or exceeded.
Actively participate in technical and aesthetic problem solving discussions.
Complete work under reasonable deadlines.

Requirements

A demo portfolio demonstrating excellent drawing and texturing skills. Work must clearly demonstrate exceptional ability in the areas of artistic, stylistic and versatility.

User Interface Artist

Obsidian Entertainment is looking for a talented and experienced UI artist to design the user experience for a next generation game.

This artist will be responsible for creating a ground breaking user-experience, including laying out designs, creating concepts and mockups, creating in-game assets, assembling them, animating them and exporting them, using Adobe Flash CS5 and Scaleform.

Requirements

Able to work with programmers and designers to design the user-interface, assemble menus and other interact able elements in Flash.
Able to create animations and contemporary effects for UI elements.
Be extremely familiar with Flash, Photoshop and Illustrator.
Have exceptional motivation, be self-managing, and a passion for video games.
Able to adhere to tight schedules with minimal supervision.
3+ years of professional experience working as a UI artist in computer gaming or a related field.
1+ AAA titles shipped as a UI artist.
Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

Design user interfaces that manage complex information and flow intuitively.

This artist will be responsible for creating both ambient effects (such as smoke, fire, and lightning) and more detailed prop animation (a tree limb breaking, a glass shattering, etc.). These effects will be created using Maya, but experience with comparable programs is acceptable.
