Lighting Artist

Obsidian Entertainment is looking for a talented, self-motivated Lighting Artist to collaborate with a growing team of developers.
The Lighting Artist will be responsible for developing lighting schemes and post-process VFX to enrich an environments visual mood while creating aesthetically pleasing game levels. They will do this by using their expert knowledge of direct and indirect lighting, materials, color theory, luminance and exposure all while maintaining the goal of acceptable real-time performance targets.

Requirements:

High proficiency in lighting pipelines in modern engines such as Cryengine or Unreal
4-year degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent industry experience
Strong knowledge of materials including PBR materials
Solid grasp of color theory
3+ years in the game industry with at least 1 shipped title
Ability to rapidly master development tools and pipelines
Ability to be resourceful and come up with creative solutions
Must be receptive to art direction and critiques from project art leads and team
Strong foundation in traditional art
Working knowledge of 3DsMax
Working knowledge of 3DsMax Rendering Pipeline
Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate between design, art and programming
Strong organizational and mentoring skills
Passion for gaming

Pluses:

Experience with Cryengine
Example images of lit environments
Post processing VFX experience
Background in Photography or Cinematography

Responsibilities:

Create multiple lighting scenarios for various environment levels
Work closely with Art Leads to ensure the visual target is met or exceeded
Actively participate in technical and aesthetic problem-solving discussions
Complete work under reasonable deadlines

Portfolio Requirements:

A web portfolio that demonstrates a range of lighting styles
Examples of interior and exterior lit environments
Samples from previous industry work

Portfolio Pluses:

Multiple lighting examples of the same environment set piece
Advanced Material and Rendering Samples

Technical Artist

Obsidian Entertainment is looking for a talented, self-motivated Technical Artist to collaborate with a growing team of developers.
The Technical Artist will be responsible for assisting in developing workflow pipelines and asset/level management in order to help create and maintain aesthetically pleasing environments. They will do this by using their expert knowledge of engine profiling, scene optimizations all while maintaining the goal of acceptable real-time performance targets.

Requirements:

Working knowledge in modern engines such as Cryengine or Unreal
Proactively uses knowledge to identify problems before they affect development
Demonstrates strong technical ability
4-year degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent industry experience
Strong knowledge of materials including PBR materials
2+ years in the game industry with at least 1 shipped title
Ability to rapidly master development tools and pipelines and to share that knowledge with other members on the team
Ability to be resourceful and come up with creative solutions
Must be receptive to art direction and critiques from project art leads and team
Strong foundation in traditional art
Working knowledge of 3DsMax
Working knowledge of MaxScript
Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate between design, art and programming
Strong organizational and mentoring skills
Passion for gaming

Pluses:

Experience with Cryengine
Post processing and VFX experience
Background in Modeling and asset development

Responsibilities:

Create acceptable memory budget levels for large outdoor environments
Work closely with Art Leads to ensure the visual target is met or exceeded
Actively participate in technical and aesthetic problem-solving discussions
Complete work under reasonable deadlines

Portfolio Requirements:

A web portfolio that demonstrates scenes before and after optimization passes
Ability to demonstrate how workflow pipelines were improved on past projects
Samples from previous industry work

Portfolio Pluses:

Example knowledge of PBR pipelines
