Character Artist

Obsidian Entertainment is looking for talented, self-motivated Character Artist to join our growing team of RPG developers.
The Character Artist will be responsible for creating aesthetically pleasing human characters and creatures–in a variety of styles–through their expert knowledge of the tools and techniques, usage of shapes and forms, proportion, color, and design principles.

Responsibilities:

Create a wide range of high quality characters and creatures.
Model, UV map, texture and create the materials for characters.
Effectively integrate useable art assets into the game.
Work closely with the art director and lead character artist to ensure the visual target is met or exceeded.
Actively participate in technical and aesthetic problem solving efforts.
Complete work under reasonable deadlines.

Requirements:

High proficiency of modeling and texturing characters in Maya, Z-brush, and Photoshop.
Excellent high and low poly modeling skills.
Solid knowledge of character modeling as related to game development.
Solid grasp of color theory.
2+ years in the game industry.
Ability to rapidly master proprietary tools and development pipelines.
Ability to be resourceful and come up with creative solutions.
Ability to be receptive to art direction and critiques from project art leads.
Strong foundation in traditional art.
A strong understanding of human and animal anatomy.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Passion for gaming.

Pluses:

Exceptional visual and technical understanding of 3D modeling and texturing of characters and creatures.
Experience with Unity.
4-year degree from an accredited college or university.
Concept development skills.
Mesh skinning for quality deformation.
Demonstrated skills in traditional fine arts, including but not limited to figure drawing and illustration.

Portfolio Requirements:

A web portfolio that demonstrates a range of high quality 3D character art that includes human characters in well fabricated garb.
A range of creatures of varying sizes and culture.
All work presented must demonstrate the candidates knowledge of technique and style, attention to detail and present a high level polish.

Portfolio Pluses:

Samples rendered in a major game engine.
Examples of hard surface modeling for tools and weapons, etc.
Character development breakdown, reference, base, detail, topology, UVs.
Character art concept samples.
Real-time shader examples.

Gameplay Programmer

Obsidian is looking for experienced, talented gameplay programmers to join our Pillars of Eternity development team.

Requirements

An avid gamer with a passion for making games.
Prior gameplay or AI programming experience with credits on at least one shipped title.
Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
Excellent communication and team skills.
Comfortable working closely with designers on the implementation of gameplay systems.
Strong math skills.
Proficiency in C/C++.
Experience with multithreaded programming.
Excellent problem-solving, performance analysis and debugging skills.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or Engineering.

Pluses

Experience with cross-platform game development.
Understanding of various specialized engine systems such as networking, physics and rendering.
Experience developing miscellaneous tools and utilities in either C++, C# or shell scripting languages.
Experience modifying existing systems as well as adding new systems to modern commercial game engines.

Physics Programmer

Obsidian is looking for programmers passionate about vehicle physics and gameplay for our Armored Warfare development team.

QA Tester

Obsidian is looking for an experienced and talented QA Tester to join our Armored Warfare development team.
Obsidian Entertainment is looking for qualified game testers for full-time employment. Duties will include doing your best to break the game and toolset, writing up concise bug reports that include detailed steps on how to reproduce the bugs, and accurately following established QA plans. The ideal candidate has experience creating content using game editors and is able to work effectively independently as well as in a team-based, professional environment.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a full-time, ON-SITE position in Orange County, California and relocation expenses are not available. This is NOT an off-site, closed BETA testing position. We are NOT accepting BETA testing applications at this time!

Requirements:

A love of games.
Strong attention to detail and knowledge of complex game systems/mechanics.
Availability and willingness to work hard and maintain long hours including weekends as needed.
Excellent communication skills, both verbally and through detailed documentation.
Self motivated, able to work independently and in a team environment.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.
Experience with 1st and 3rd person shooters genre titles.
Experience with modern MMOs genre titles.
MUST be local. Non-local applicants will not be considered.

Experience with software testing.
Experience with writing test cases.
Experience dealing with different internet browsers.
Software testing certification.
Knowledge of networking.
Knowledge of programming languages/scripting.
