Hair/Wardrobe Sim Supervisor

We have an exciting opportunity on iGO for an individual who will collaborate with a talented group of engineers and production artists to help build a new generation of cloth and hair simulation solutions.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate closely with the iGO Asset Supervisor to ensure all hair grooming and wardrobe assets will simulate efficiently and at scale.
Collaborate closely with the engineering team in order to develop efficient simulation tools and workflows for cloth and hair with an aim at real-time, scalable performance.
Comfortable working with local and remote artistic and engineering teams.
Develop and manage workflow processes and staff.
Identify potential exposures to plan. Follow through on and reevaluate plan accordingly.
Troubleshoot creative/technical issues as they arise. Provide hands-on assistance and mentoring to the Character FX Artist(s).
Ensure on-time delivery of cloth and hair simulation elements within established project schedule. If creative appetite is too large, then need to present ideas and suggest creative alternatives. Consistently look for a more efficient way of completing tasks in a timely fashion.
Bid hair and wardrobe simulations in each project. Monitor progress and setbacks of hair and cloth simulation as it relates to the original bid. Appropriately elevate concerns to the iGO Head of Creative Services.
Facilitate meetings with artists to keep the crew informed on project changes and requirements.
Ensure open lines of communication with other departments and department heads.
Lead department meetings, manage expectations and provides communication during meetings.
Responsible for improving the performance of artists on the team. Mentor artists to provide guidance, experience and insight.
Responsible for maintaining crew morale. Foster good working atmosphere and ethics.

Qualifications

Self-sufficient, driven, and high attention to detail.
10+ years with simulation techniques used in games and/or visual effects or animated features.
Experience creating digital media involving photo-real digital doubles with physically plausible garment and hair simulations.
Experience working with software developers creating simulation tools.
Demonstrated ability to provide rapid turn-around of deliverables on fast-paced, short term projects.
Experience supervising cross-departmental tasks.
Experience with modeling and look development for cloth/hair/fur is a plus.

BACKGROUND

Technical background in computer science, engineering, math or physics.
Production experience, especially fast paced quick turn-around projects.
Experience working on simulations for games is a plus.

Production Supervisor

Essential Job Responsibilities

Schedule and Workflow

Works with Production Manager and/or Associate Producer to meet overall production scheduling and budget requirements and helps to ensure the budget and scheduling are updated as changes are made to the film’s production flow and/or staffing profile. Understands how changes may affect the budget, scheduling and overtime
Looks ahead to ensure that weekly quotas, department milestones & inventory expectations are met. Strategizeswith Department Head, upper management and possibly other Production Supervisors to resolve any productivity and/or inventory issues.
Collaborates with Department Head to ensure the complexity of work is consistent with department budget and schedule. Strategizes with Department Head and upper management on how to resolve any complexity overages.
Collaborates with Department Head to develop and manage department workflow process.
Develops and manages internal department schedules and staffing requirements. Creates list of critical assumptions and highlights any vulnerabilities.
Creates and maintains reports that clearly illustrate department and individual artist productivity.
Collaborates with Dept Head tocast assignments and issue deadlines to artists.
Performs walk-arounds to check in with the crew.
Attends Director approvals and helps to drive this meeting.

Mentoring and Staffing

Primary production person within department and supervises and mentors Production Coordinators and Production Assistants for that dept.
Partners with Department Head to coach, mentor and give performance feedback. Drives review process and delivers reviews
Partners with Department Head to manage conflict within the department and partners with Human Resources regarding disciplinary procedures. Documents conflicts and provides progress updates to Human Resources.
May work with the Training Department to set up training forcrew.
Supports and represents directives from the studio and/or production leadership.
Assists Studio Executives and Production Management with handling transitions.
May be involved in the interviewing, hiring process and deal negotiations.

Morale and Communication

Responsible for maintaining crew morale.
Represents Department in weekly production meetings. Reports department progress and discusses solutions to any issues impeding the department.
Partnerswith the Department Head to manage, motivate and create an environment conducive to achieving quotas and artistic achievements.

Qualifications

Requirements for iGO

Live action/VFX experience
5+ years of Production experience
bachelor’s degree is preferred.
