SUMMARY:

The Macintosh Infrastructure team builds, maintains, and supports the tools that keep our fleet of Macs integrated with the filmmaking goals of the studio and running smoothly for both the end-users and the Frontline Support team. We come up with creative ways to combine home-grown and third-party tools to provide our users with a computing experience geared towards their task: making great movies. The systems we create affect almost every part of Pixar, and are constantly evolving to reflect the needs of the studio and the new technologies available.
You are a well-rounded, self-motivated Macintosh System Administrator who has both an inner unix-geek and an outward sense of creative individuality. You’re at ease in a terminal window, and have been known to write scripts to automate even esoteric tasks, just because you can. You love seeing ‘the big picture’ of how many pieces can fit together to create a greater whole, and when you make a novel connection between parts of that picture, you can’t wait to share your discovery. You are comfortable communicating effectively with a variety of coworkers and recognizing shared goals. You laugh often.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supporting the Frontline team as they support the end-users
Testing and deployment of new and updated software to client Macs
Troubleshooting, maintenance and development of a suite of command-line and GUI tools
Supporting Mac-based rendering tasks with the Frontline and Render Pipeline teams
Recognizing areas for improvement, and working to realize those improvements
Implementing policy changes on the client Macs via the most appropriate methods
Documenting the tools and systems you build or maintain

QUALIFICATIONS:

Three+ years of OS X system administration experience
Experience automating tasks in Bash, Ruby, Python, Perl, or similar languages
An enthusiasm for learning new skills
Ability to troubleshoot complex systems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Self motivated with an ability to successfully prioritize tasks
Comfort with other flavors of Unix

SUMMARY:

Pixar’s Software R&D Team is responsible for developing and maintaining Pixar’s in-house, movie production software. As part of this group, the simulation engineering team creates, maintains, and supports the software that production artists use to create character simulation effects (cloth, hair, flesh, skin, etc.). We are looking for a general software engineer with 3D computer graphics experience who will join our small team to help support these artists. In this role, you will be responsible for feature development and bug fixing for proprietary software and pipeline used by concurrent film productions. This is a front line engineering position that requires collaboration with production users and project managers to support mission critical software.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primarily responsible for providing software needed to support simulation artists. This includes developing and maintaining software in the simulation pipeline under the guidance of a departmental project lead
Works one-on-one with artists to resolve technical problems and debug high priority issues
Detailed problem analysis and resolution of issues
Ability to triage incoming issues and provide rapid response/resolution

QUALIFICATIONS:

5+ years of experience engineering in C++
Solid engineering skills with an appreciation of code craft, code health, and addressing technical debt
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
Experience with 3D math and computer graphics
Excellent problem solving skills with high attention to detail, balancing quick turnaround with long-term quality

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Scripting skills with expertise in Python, PyQt, and/or Maya MEL
Knowledge of numerical techniques used by simulation (i.e., cloth, hair, rigid bodies) a plus
Experience working with technical and non-technical software user
Knowledge of 3D graphic applications and their APIs is a plus (i.e. Maya, Houdini)

SUMMARY:

Pixar’s Studio Tools group is responsible for developing and maintaining Pixar’s in-house film production software. The Build and Release Engineering team creates, maintains, and supports internal tools for building and testing that software, deploying software releases to our artists, and managing software configurations post-deployment.
The Release Engineer will work in an evolving, fast-paced environment requiring creative thinking, individual initiative, collaboration within the team and with other teams, and attention to detail. Responsibilities include improving the performance, usability, and scalability of our testing and release automation tools, fixing bugs, writing unit tests, giving and receiving code reviews, and communicating changes in the development workflow to the rest of Studio Tools and our technical artists. Skills such as debugging performance issues in both scripts and compiled programs, optimizing database queries, and developing APIs will come in handy.
The Build and Release Engineering team works in an environment centered around Linux, Python, Perforce, JavaScript/AJAX, and MySQL, but we welcome engineers with different backgrounds who bring new ideas to the team. Experience with technologies like git, C/C++ or Java, provisioning tools, web application frameworks, virtualization/containerization technologies, non-relational data stores, message brokers, and continuous integration/deployment will all prove valuable. If you’ve worked in an animation, VFX, or game production environment before, you’ll understand some of our unique challenges.

SUMMARY:

Pixar’s Network & Server Admin group is a small team of Systems Administrators who are responsible for all aspects of the studio’s network, server and core infrastructure. We work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that all systems and services the Studio relies on to create our movies are fully operational with ample room to grow. From DNS to NTP to BGP (we really know our TLAs!), we are constantly looking for new ways to stay ahead of the curve. We are looking for someone to join our team as a network-centric Unix/Network Admin who is nimble, has a positive attitude, and works well as part of a small team.
Pixar is a dynamic, fast-paced environment and our group thrives on creative thinking, independent initiative, and close collaboration. We interface primarily with other groups within the Systems Department, and the Studio Tools Department, building everything from physical servers to virtual machines to racks to cloud services. We are always looking for new ways to automate processes and make optimal use of the myriad of data sources flowing from our systems and networks. A given problem might entail writing Python or shell scripts, digging into a vendor’s API documentation, or trawling through an SNMP MIB.
Some of the stuff we work with every day, in no particular order: Linux/UNIX, DNS, DHCP, Firewalls, AAA servers, Mail servers/appliances, load balancers, routers, switches, wireless LANs, WAN connectivity, and fiber optic networking.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Deep understanding of IP routing protocols (e.g. OSPF/OSPFv3/BGP/BGP4)
Full understanding of the IP network stack/OSI model
Familiarity with IPv6 and dual-stack IPv4/IPv6 deployments
Solid understanding of DNS, DHCP, NTP, RADIUS protocols
Solid understanding of multiple OS network stacks (UNIX/Linux, Mac OS, Windows)
Ability to dig into tcpdump/wireshark captures to analyze network traffic
Understanding of Certificate-based authentication, PKI
Familiarity with MDM solutions (e.g. ClearPass)
Familiarity with monitoring systems (Zabbix, etc.)
Comfortable working with firewalls, load balancers, WiFi networks, routers, VPN appliances, etc.
Experience working closely with network/security vendors to troubleshoot/debug issues
Strong security background preferred (intrusion prevention/detection, etc.)
Expertise in programming or scripting
Excellent written and oral communications skills, including the ability to effectively communicate highly technical concepts
Ability to work well under pressure
Meticulous attention to detail
Ability to work in a datacenter to manage/install hardware; some heavy lifting (30lbs or less) or use of a “server lift” may be required
Self-starter; motivated; comfortable/willing to ask others for assistance
Ability to prioritize, respond, and follow through on multiple simultaneous requests
Minimum of 5 years in an IS/IT support position
