Technical Director

Psyonix, a San Diego based video game studio and creator of Rocket League, is looking for a Technical Director that can support and manage the programming team. Our ideal candidate will be responsible for driving technical projects forward and provide leadership to the growing team. They will work closely with other departments to define technical requirements and restrictions for all projects.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervise and participate in all aspects of technical game development for PC and Console
• Allocate resources, recommend solutions, and approve schedules for the engineering department
• Oversee and manage Principal and Lead Engineers
• Provide guidance and expertise in systems design, programming, debugging, and optimization
• Mentor team members and help develop talent
• Oversee and enhance code standards, review processes, and guidelines for the team to follow
• Interface with Production team and other departments to give visibility on engineering tasks and goals


• Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• 10 years of programming experience with 3 or more years of management
• 5+ years’ recent experience in the video game industry
• Advanced experience in core engine development, networking, gameplay, and tool creation
• At least one shipped title as a Technical Director, Lead Developer, or Lead Programmer
• Knowledge of the technical pipeline and all the processes needed to make a game
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and team management skills
